Is a holiday abroad doable on this budget? Never been.

I have 4 children and we have never been abroad together. I've never booked a holiday other than UK seaside ones at Haven in my life.

Utterly clueless.

I've never been able to afford one.
I have a little more money coming in.

Is it possible to get abroad for a week for 2 adults 4 kids on about 2500?

We don't drive so no car hire. Just somewhere warm with a pool and ideally beach.

DDs would be in Yr 9 and 10 so would have to be in holidays.

What's the best time to go?

Feeling overwhelmed already.

Go in may or October instead of summer or book easyjet flights and an air b and b.

I would like to reiterate other people and say please reconsider Eurocamp. The ones in Europe are nothing like caravan sites in the Uk, they put Haven to shame. We are going to one in Italy this year, it has 5 pools, water slides, a lazy river, several restaurants, sundae bar, supermarket, lots of entertainment, shuttle to the local towns and a noddy train around park. We paid £66 each in flights for 6 of us and £700 for the caravan for a week. We are self catering but we know there is a lidl/coop very close and so will be living on hotdogs, burgers and pizzas.

Last year we went to two Eurocamp in France and they were immaculate, everything there that should be, beautiful country side and totally brilliant.

Agree. Camping is really quite nice in a warm country on an almost proper bed (the mattresses are a bit thin, but they're normal bed height) in a big frame tent, with lots of room to move and one that you can sit outside in the sun and drink wine and eat from the barbecue and there's lots of pools and parks etc to entertain DCs.

Forgot to say that there's some lovely Eurocamp and similar campsites on the coast in Northern Spain and you can get cheap flights to Girona airports.

PenguinPandas · 26/02/2019 14:23

You can also get mobile homes on campsites so have your own bathroom and wifi and the premium ones can be similar to hotel rooms - ours had a 42 inch TV, leather sofa, dishwasher, coffee machine, bathroom, towels, bedding.

Euro camp sounds amazing

legolimb · 26/02/2019 14:35

Agree with the campsite options.

We took the kids to one in Brittany one year, and to another in northern Spain.

I just looked at the one in Spain. Possibly not ideal as it wasn't right next to the beach - but for a 3 bedroomed mobile home it would cost 1023 Euros for the week. Flights from Man-Barcelona at the end of August were £488 for all of you. Which leaves enough for food and entertainment in your budget.

Without me going back and re-reading all the thread, did you specify where you can fly from? And what are your dates?

I love looking for holidays :) www.vilanovapark.com/bungalows/mobil-homes/serie-200-3-habitaciones-2/

We went to lido de jeslo (near Venice) last year at Easter stayed in a lovely mobile.

Flights under £200 for the 5 of us Easyjet Manchester to Venice (reserved seats but carry on luggage only). We didn't hire a car, we caught the bus to the site and private hire back to airport. Mobile home was about 400euros for the week. We had a lovely day out in Venice.

This year were going to Dubrovnik at Easter for a week. Flights from Manchester around £350 for 5. 5 bed house with pool and loads of amenities like badminton court and five a side pitch 1000ish euro for the week (airbnb). We are hiring a car but its very doable with taxi and bus.

Woodman03 · 26/02/2019 14:38

Look at eurocamp or canvas, fly budget airline to Perpignan (south of France) loads of campsites a taxi drive away, several around Argeles sur mer. We are going at May half term static caravan, air con, decking, dishwasher £540. We are driving down but I’m sure you will get flights in budget. If you don’t fancy that look at owners abroad for a apartment in Spainand then get flights.

gerbo · 26/02/2019 14:39

Another vote for Eurocamp.....ace hols. We do a holiday for four for 11 nights (in northern France) for around £1500 including petrol and food.
There are definitely sites you can access without a car, flying and taxi from airport. Ask them on the phone- super helpful staff.

legolimb · 26/02/2019 14:39

Europarcs are a lesser known campsite holiday company. Their prices may be more competitive than Eurocamp et al.

Agree that Eurocamp sounds amazing, I'm going to look into that for next year, and Europarc too. I say this as a die hard anti-camper GrinRipple when I was a kid we went to a motor home type campsite in Lido de Jesolo we had an amazing time. I wonder if it's the same one? I was about 13 and developed a huge crush on the young lifeguard. Spent the whole holiday wearing way too much make up and cried all the way home as I'd never see him again. A boy I'd never actually exchanged a word with Confused

So yes def consider there OP!

Can I also just "big up" AI options? Sometimes they get abut of an unfair slating, its really not just the Booze Brigade getting hammered by the pool just like Cornwall in August isn't just middle class chumps drinking cider by the pool!

Hope you find something lovely wherever you go OP and happy holidays to everyone!

Isitmybathtimeyet · 26/02/2019 16:50

Also consider looking at the French/Spanish etc sites for Eurocamp/ Europarc etc. They are often cheaper than the Eurocamp brand (they are campsites aligned to the brand, not wholly owned by them).

StarlightLady · 26/02/2019 17:54

You will often (but not always!) find that it is cheaper to book flights and accommodation seperately. Look on airlines’ own sites and established accommodation booking sites.

Also be aware of other costs differences. For example Portugal is much cheaper than a lot of France is when you are there. Flights to Greece are usually more expensive because of expensive landing fees which the airlines pass on. PM me if you would like more detail.

TheBiscuitStrikesBack · 26/02/2019 17:57

We’re doing euro camp in August for £2,700. 11 nights, family of 5.
