Is a holiday abroad doable on this budget? Never been.

I have 4 children and we have never been abroad together. I've never booked a holiday other than UK seaside ones at Haven in my life.

Utterly clueless.

I've never been able to afford one.
I have a little more money coming in.

Is it possible to get abroad for a week for 2 adults 4 kids on about 2500?

We don't drive so no car hire. Just somewhere warm with a pool and ideally beach.

DDs would be in Yr 9 and 10 so would have to be in holidays.

What's the best time to go?

Feeling overwhelmed already.

Not impossible at all! But say where you're flying from.

TheDrsDocMartens · 24/02/2019 17:11

We did Eurocamp in August for about £2500. 2 adults 2 teens, 2 kids. Flew Birmingham to Biarritz and taxi to site.

maloofhoof · 24/02/2019 17:14

Just found this on a quick search, Majorca, one week self catering for 2 adults and 4 kids.

camelfinger · 24/02/2019 17:14

Biarritz is a good idea as the airport is pretty close to the town and other places.

TearingUpMyHeart · 24/02/2019 17:15

You can definitely go, it just depends if you are ok with more budget type stuff
So ... passports need getting
Then try May holidays. Go on a flight comparison website, look for where is cheap n cheerful, then air b n b somewhere. Or do a caravan with eg firefly, eurocamp, matthews. Just get trains or taxis to the destination. Or a last minute deal in the summer, package.
Passports first

Acorncat · 24/02/2019 17:19

Ryanair to Beziers (South of France) and then eurocamp or similar, right by the beach, good pools etc and short taxi from airport. I'd check sky scanner and see where you can get cheap flights to and then find a good caravan park, cheaper than a hotel maybe.

TheDrsDocMartens · 24/02/2019 17:21

Also tweaking dates for different places/different airports.

HollyBobbies · 24/02/2019 17:26

I'm flying from Manchester.

My parents just offered to come along with us as baby sitters and have 2 of the kids in their room.

Apparently booking seperatly as 2 adults 2 kids will be cheaper?

Not as babysitters I mean as having the kids in with them. Blush

I'd look at all-inclusive so that you know exactly how much you have to spend.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 24/02/2019 17:30

I reckon it's doable even with the cost of passports but you could also think about the Channel Islands. You get a flight, no passports required, and lovely beaches.

But I'd go proper abroad if you can, and going with your parents sounds like a great idea.

Wittow · 24/02/2019 17:30

Have you looked at eurocamp? They have some decent deals.

HollowTalk · 24/02/2019 17:32

You really need a car for Eurocamp, though, Wittow. It's hard to take everything when you're travelling by plane and buses.

importantkath · 24/02/2019 17:33

Look at Eurocamp. We have four children and use them as the caravans are cheap. They can also help you figure out planes/trains etc

Chocolatecake12 · 24/02/2019 17:33

Look on travel republic site. Spain will probably be cheapest- somewhere like costa brava. Or turkey. As pp have said last week of August is usually cheapest. On travel republic you can choose length of holiday so by maybe going for 6 nights or 8 work out cheaper than 7. And then acrkkung on weekdays is usually cheaper than weekends.

importantkath · 24/02/2019 17:37

Grandparents can also come, it's free. For example, we took a three bedrooms caravan, gave the main bedroom to my parents and we slept on the couch.

Also look at the sun holiday codes. Places like Bella Italia in the Italian lakes are great. Also, Annecy in France. All accessible by trains (check out the slower, local trains. Much cheaper than the faster, direct trains).

HollyBobbies · 24/02/2019 17:37

I don't really wnat to do a caravan.

The only holidays we've ever had have been in caravans. I just really want a real holiday. Just a by the pool beach job. Nothing super fancy

How about 4 or 5 nights? EasyJet do holidays with flight and hotel.
A full week isn’t needed if it’s all about the experience.

There WILL be extra costs and you will need spending money so look for as cheap as poss and don’t blow your full budget on holiday. Calculate daily costs for extras depending on type of hol plus getting passports, to airport, stuff like beach clothes....be realistic as it all adds up. Spell out spending to kids to keep their demands reasonable and under control. Don’t expect your parents to subsidise you unless they’ve specifically said they will.

OxanaVorontsova · 24/02/2019 17:46

Costa Brava self catering with Jet2 last week August

Stompythedinosaur · 24/02/2019 17:46

I think that should be perfectly possible. Going at Easter of summer half term might be a bit cheaper.

I normally start by looking at the locations that the budget airlines go from my local airport, then put some time I to looking at the possibilities to find the best deal. We have found some really cheap deals to Rhodes, Barcelona and Paris in the last few years.

After I've found flights that look good I look for an airbnb deal, and remember to factor in the cost of the airport transfer.

Debruary · 24/02/2019 17:47

Put your dates (or whole months) into Skyscanner, and hit the destination ‘everywhere’ button. That will give you an idea of prices.

Once you have some reasonable flights to go at, just start looking for hotels/ villas/ air bnb’s to match.

notacooldad · 24/02/2019 17:47

Easy doable.
Use skyscanner.
You have a couple of options.
Put in your airport that you want to travel from
You can leave the destination blank or put in flexible.
You can put in a specific date, a particular month or put in cheapest month.
See what results it comes up with.
You can tick a bix for direct flights.

Next. Once you've got your place use sites such as booking.com, trivago or similar to do a search. Use the filters to put your needs in. E.g. With booking.com put in, for example, free wifi, beach, swimming pool.

If you use booking.com maybe go through Topcashback, there's usually a minimum of 3% cashback.
Or you could look at Airbnb. If it's your first time using them I wouls suggest you pick a super host. They have had customers before.

When you have your airport destination and pissible location use Google maps to see how to get there., especially if you have a late flight.

One more thing about the flights, prepare to be flexible with your days, e.g. Fly out on a Tuesday come back a week Wednesday.

I hope you get something great and have a good time
,

AustrianSnow · 24/02/2019 17:47

Check what you LA policy is for fining. Lots of counties only do it for five consecutive days. You go could go the Wednesday before a holiday and fly back halfway through the next week. The flights will be much cheaper.

WombatChocolate · 24/02/2019 17:47

You will have to compromise on your budget. Saying you want to fly, not to go in caravan, not to self cater all pushes price up. You’ll have to compromise on length of trip or accommodation or location or travel to cover 6 people in peak time, 5 of whom don’t have passports.
Something will be poss but try to keep an open mind to various options. A caravan in a lovely area can be far superior to a dump of a hotel.

Raven88 · 24/02/2019 17:48

We booked using love holidays and we have also used travel republic. For 3 adults and one child it was 900 in April. Jet2 are a bit expensive compared to the others. Travel supermarket is good for comparing.
