Is a holiday abroad doable on this budget? Never been.

I have 4 children and we have never been abroad together. I've never booked a holiday other than UK seaside ones at Haven in my life.

Utterly clueless.

I've never been able to afford one.
I have a little more money coming in.

Is it possible to get abroad for a week for 2 adults 4 kids on about 2500?

We don't drive so no car hire. Just somewhere warm with a pool and ideally beach.

DDs would be in Yr 9 and 10 so would have to be in holidays.

What's the best time to go?

Feeling overwhelmed already.

Sorry op will leave your thread alone now. This is 7 nights full board pretty good TripAdvisor rating. £2250 if you can pay it all now.

I'm sure other websites will have more. It's about searching as flexibly as you can while keeping what's important: so search by any destination within certain dates rather than specific dates but then make sure near a beach and whatever board basis you are ok with.

You will get cheaper if you can go self catering but you might like the certainty of knowing at least meals are covered.

Cheaper destinations are Spain , Turkey, Greek Islands, Malta, companies, On The beach, Tui, Booking . com, last week in august is reasonable prices, and half board is another option that way big breakfast, cheap sandwich for lunch and dinner already paid for, even self catering can be reasonable as cafes overseas tend to be cheaper than UK and can do simple food like cold meats and salad or pasta dishes in the apartment buy locally breakfast stuff, bread sandwich fillings, snacks ,fruit juice and take packed lunch out ,

I think probably the may or october holidays rather than summer hols would be dooable. Perhaps try Barcelona? Near the beach cheap flights air b and b and something to look at as well as the beach? I have a feeling that might be more dooable than classic bucket and spade destinations

Debruary · 24/02/2019 19:08

Agree with October. We got 7 nights half board in a lovely hotel just outside Marrakech for an absolute bargain, two years ago Oct half term.

Thanks so much for the suggestions will look them over now.

Kids are 8. 10. 12. 14

I’ve just been to Spain for February half term, one adult, two children flights £109 - we each took hand luggage and flew two days before half term, on an early morning flight. Four star hotel for the week with breakfast just over £500. Room had a kitchenette so we self catered quite a bit. Room could have been around £120 cheaper but we wanted a prime sea view. Transfers were by train directly from Malaga airport, then a brief taxi ride down to the hotel 14 Euros for all three of us, same on the return journey. So before spending money the holiday itself cost around £650 for the three of us. If you want details of who we flew with and where we stayed PM me. If you’re willing to go in Feb half term and take your kids out of school a day or two early you’ll easily get a holiday abroad for less than £2500 for all of you.

CarolDanvers · 24/02/2019 19:18

Weather was 18/19/20 degrees so not boiling but people were in the pools and the sea and we had two what felt like, scorching days where I caught the sun.

BlondeBumshelll · 24/02/2019 19:28

Try travel republic. 2 weeks might be why the prices are too high, sometimes you'll get a much better deal for 10, 11 or 12 nights. And a first holiday abroad might mean 2 weeks is just too long for the first one. I sometimes find them too stressful if the place isn't all I'd hoped for.

Definitely play around with the destinations, I've spent hours checking every single place I can think of that I would like to go then seeing which flights are cheapest then go from there.

Doable for sure but you'll have to put a bit of work into finding something.

HollyBobbies · 24/02/2019 19:30

I've been looking at 7 nights x

Quick search through travel republic shows:

10 days to Majorca leaving 8th July (sorry not sure what dates your kids break up) flights for all 6 people £322

self catering from £795
half board from £1646
All Inc from £2094

That's the only one I searched but play around with dates/destinations and you'll find something.

Have you thought about popping into a travel agent? It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by looking online – outsource it! If you can’t go in just call, state your budget and what you’re after and let them work their magic.

Squeezle · 24/02/2019 19:55

If you can take g'parents it will make it cheaper. This one is for 2 adults 2 teenagers.

Lolly34h · 24/02/2019 20:10

I know this sounds strange but the sun holidays do a holiday 35 miles outside of Barcelona the flights are about 60 return pp

BerensteinBear · 24/02/2019 20:24

We always have a cheapo week away in October.
We normally go to la pineda, Salou(Estival Park Hotel). All inclusive, good food and drink. Think its 4 star, close to beach, weather normally great and close to the Aquapolis water park and also PortAventura theme park.
Last year it was £1300 odd for 2 adults and DS (10) flying from Manchester. We went on the Thursday before half term so only 2 days of school missed. Booked via First Choice.
Possibly October may be your best bet?

fruitpastille · 24/02/2019 20:26

I agree with trying a travel agent. Do you have a more local/independent one? If you haven't booked yourself before it will be a lot less stressful to use an agent. Could you go at half term/Easter instead of August?

itsbritneybiatches · 24/02/2019 20:35

Is it worth looking at all inclusive op that way most costs are taken care of

ArnoldBee · 24/02/2019 20:38

Fuerteventura consider sunmaster holidays.

MrsBellamy · 24/02/2019 21:17

I'm going away to Tenerife this May, 2 adults and 4 kids for 10 days for around the same price as your budget, I'm flying jet2 so baggage transfers etc are included but it's self catering so we are budgeting at least a further £2k for spending money.

Deadringer · 24/02/2019 21:24

We don't do packages any more, they are very expensive. I did a search on Ryanair and picked the cheapest sunny destination, which was lisbon. We booked for a week in mid August, 4 adults and 1 child. Flights were 500 and appartment was 700. I think it's doable, but having to buy passports for everyone will certainly add up.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/02/2019 21:51

Apparently booking seperatly as 2 adults 2 kids will be cheaper

Could well be as then you need 2 family rooms, whereas with you and 4 DC, you will need a room size that may not be available.

I don't agree that AI is necessarily cheaper and if you don't like the food, you are kind of stuck. In the example given above, you'd have to spend £130 a day on food and drink for AI to work out cheaper.

We do a combination of hotel B&B in an apartment, eat out once a day and do a supermarket run for drinks, snacks and food for sandwiches etc. Cheaper than AI, minimal cooking and nicer food. Or you could self cater, eat in quite a bit and make sure your partner and the eldest 2 DC at least pitch in to share the workload.

I also don't agree that booking separately will always be cheaper than packages. We've had packages cheaper than separate bookings several times. You just need to compare for yourself, we've had some real bargains from jet2holidays.

Holiday Pirates and Jacks Flight Club are two more places to look for cheap holidays.

Okaythen2 · 24/02/2019 21:56

I have 4 children. Try Eurocamp. We are flying to Amsterdam for £355 for all 6 of us. Eurocamp holiday cost £450

Okaythen2 · 24/02/2019 21:57

Few years ago used air bnb and easyJet flights . Week in Spain in May staying at a villa £1700 . It can be done.

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 24/02/2019 22:13

My easy jet flights to France are 210 for 4.
Accmd 400 euro. Self catering. we hire car but it's not necessary car was about 15o .

Went too south... amazing beaches restaurant Etc.
Food was no more expensive than here self catering.

Dontstepinthecowpat · 24/02/2019 22:15

Sorry I just wanted to pop in and check that you have someone to help with packing? Given what you have said packing for 4 children for a week abroad can be very overwhelming. We take our 4 away quite often and I find it a big job getting everything organised. I would recommend booking if all separately, start by setting your dates otherwise it just gets so overwhelming. You could call a travel agent with your requirements and budgets and see what they come up with?

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/02/2019 06:55

The OP says 2 adults and 4 children, two of them teens or nearly so, so there's plenty of help with packing available.

I think the £50/60 flights in the school holidays ship will be long gone for this year, so it either will be next year, or possibly a package for this year.
