The new Lidl that has taken over our village facebook page has finally opened. Im going to go tomorrow and try do a weekly shop but fear I may come back with only alcohol, chocolate & bakery items. Grin

Any items you love or avoid?

Cant wait to mooch up the aisle of shite aka the middle of Lidl

Cheese. All of it.
Greek yoghurt in a bucket.
All the store bakery.
The sliced continental sausage.
Polish sausage.
Masonry paint from aisle of wonder.

I went into Lidl on Thursday and came out with wine, sushi and wasabi peanuts. But that was only because they didn’t have the pain au raisins or Jaffa cakes I’d actually gone in for Blush

BlueMerchant · 24/02/2019 07:57

Quiche
Deluxe coleslaw
Cheeses
Pasta sauce
Oven chips

Avoid
Mckennedy frozen pizzas- really horrid
Tins beans, soup
Frozen fruit

I only use Lidl in France (we are an Aldi town in the UK), but I’m guessing they are similar.
Wine- the Marne sur Lie is good for easy (cheap) quaffing.
Bakery- all of it. If they do pretzels, send some to me. We really love the cheesy rolls and the apple turnovers.
Nutella is usually cheap.
Quiches are tasty, DS loves the cordon-bleu ham and chicken things.

Magmatic80 · 24/02/2019 08:00

The fajita mix was disappointing, burnt to the pan so must have sugar in.

ItsHardToExplain · 24/02/2019 08:01

Cinnamon rolls from the bakery

ItsHardToExplain · 24/02/2019 08:01

I forgot to add to BUY THEM ALL!

azulmariposa · 24/02/2019 08:03

The lasagna is delicious!
Potato salad
Hams and cheeses
Bakery section
Nappies
I love Lidl, wish we had one closer as I prefer it to Aldi.

So it looks like I'll be able to fill the fridge & get lots of snacks.
Anyone know what the meat & veg are like?

Their sports kit is very good quality. In fact, their promo on fitness stuff starts today and I need some of their running tights/leggings because they are the best ones I've tried.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/02/2019 08:18

I find the meat excellent and the veg is ok- check any bagged veg though as sometimes there is a bad one in the bag (which could happen anywhere). Their mini veg, such as mini peppers, cucumber, unicorn carrots, romanesco are really great too, my kids love them!

dancemom · 24/02/2019 08:21

I've had no problems with their fruit and veg and they usually have a good organic selection of both also

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 24/02/2019 08:21

Rinse aid
Caddy liners
Own brand wine gums and starburst

WanderingAimlessly · 24/02/2019 08:25

In ours the meat and veg are just as good as Sainsbury’s etc. I only do my weekly shop there now. Some things are still best branded - beans, ketchup and pesto spring to mind, but I hardly encounter anything that is disgusting anymore (not the case a few years back when it first opened!).

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 24/02/2019 08:28

Fabric conditioner

SweetAsSpice · 24/02/2019 08:28

Chocolate marble brioche.

Singlenotsingle · 24/02/2019 08:30

Their cheese rolls, blueberry doughnuts, sourdough, luxury muesli (delicious!), chocolate, coffee, chunky fish fingers.

dontforgetto · 24/02/2019 08:34

Coconut milk, Belgian chocolate seashells, deluxe sourdough pizzas, their magnum style ice creams, baby wipes, kids chewable vitamins, bagels, tortillas.

greatbigwho · 24/02/2019 08:35

If yours has any left, the kids waterproofs that were in recently are brilliant.

Their tinned sweet corn is the best I've ever tasted, ditto the potato salad.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/02/2019 08:37

Handwash is really cheap and nice. Big 500ml bottle for 59p.

Jaffa cakes

Loo roll is ok.

The coleslaw and bucket of Greek yogurt was awful I couldn’t eat it.

Smoked cheese and hams are good.

ipswichwitch · 24/02/2019 08:39

We had some Aberdeen Angus steaks that were really nice.

Jb291 · 24/02/2019 08:42

Dishwasher tablets
Rinse aid
Dishwasher salt
Washing powder - Lavender and Camomile
Doussy fabric conditioner
Washing up liquid
Bin bags

Cheeses
Fruit
Bread
Meat

All very good and extremely cheap.

reallybadidea · 24/02/2019 08:44

I like Lidl, I really do, but I will never buy the camembert again, after getting some to bake. It doesn't melt and just goes weird and plasticity, like the texture of cheese strings. Bleurgh.

wellhonestly · 24/02/2019 08:45

Their luxury muesli is great.

Pushpull · 24/02/2019 08:46

Avoid their weetabix. It was honestly uneatable. The ready meals in a wooden box that look like Charlie bighams are pretty grim too.

The free range meat is good in general, and often the price of non free range at other supermarkets. I like what my dc call chocolate Pringles ;)

The veg is hit and miss for us, but I think that just varies by store wherever you buy and how good the employees are at rotating and how fast the stock moves. If everyone is super excited and shops there's lots it will be better.

Enjoy your pastries ;)
