The new Lidl that has taken over our village facebook page has finally opened. Im going to go tomorrow and try do a weekly shop but fear I may come back with only alcohol, chocolate & bakery items. Grin

Avoid the fresh mackerel it has an odd metallic taste.
Keep an eye for Greek week the frozen gyros are fabulous.

Susannach · 24/02/2019 08:52

Nappies
Olive/Rapeseed oil
Nuts and dried fruit
Fishcakes
Cereal
Biscuits and chocolate
Toiletries
Washing up liquid, laundry detergent

The meat and veg is good too! I love a Lidl Smile

JeffJarrett · 24/02/2019 08:53

The hazelnut chocolate donuts are to die for.
Their fresh wraps are delicious.
Yoghurt drinks.
Breaded mozzarella.
Hummus.
Tortilla crisps, nacho chilli flavour is the best (I think)

I love Lidl.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 24/02/2019 08:54

not a massive fan of Lidl TBH, but I do sometimes make a special trip for the in-store bakery which is uniformly excellent, and the Coco Mademoiselle knock-off perfume.

BlueMerchant · 24/02/2019 08:56

Meat good and great price. We also love the prawns. Fruit and veg can be good but need a good check over. Strawberries with a mouldy one in the bottom on more than one occasion and I've noticed a few other soft fruits badly bruised .

GallicosCats · 24/02/2019 09:01

I bought some duvet covers from Lidl last week. They're 100% cotton, the designs may or may not be to your taste but they are extremely good value.

Afonavon · 24/02/2019 09:14

Our veg is great, fresher than Asda etc.

Low GI bread and sourdough are lovely.

Frozen peas

Frozen sweetcorn

We love their own brand cereals (including their version of weetabix)

Yogurts are lush

Toilet paper

Laundry detergent

Sparkling water (17p)

The seasonal food is always incredible. Currently the tinned stuffed vine leaves are my fave, as are the greek olives in a big jar.

CoodleMoodle · 24/02/2019 09:56

We love:
Triple chocolate chip cookies from the bakery.
Yoghurts.
Gelateli ice cream.
Croissants (in a bag).
Cereal.
Pasta and sauces, especially pesto.

DD used to love the mini cheese and tomato pizzas (fridge section) but now they're so thin and don't cook properly, so avoid those.

formerbabe · 24/02/2019 09:58

Fig and walnut loaf from the bakery

RebeccaCloud9 · 24/02/2019 09:58

Sliced gherkin

All of the bakery

Strawberry jam

NarcissistMum · 24/02/2019 12:03

I love the random crap aisle! I can recommend the protein rolls, and the big bags of cashew nuts that are fab when baking.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/02/2019 14:28

Oh I forgot the jam. Blackcurrant conserve is amazing.

Mmmhmmokdear · 24/02/2019 14:39

Their brioche is amazing.
Lunchbox snack bar things, good selection & never had any complaints from fussy DD.
Bellarom chocolate.
Milk spread / toffee spread.
Halloumi.
Cherry crush & elderflower & lime fizzy pop - both excellent with gin.
All the Ritter Sport.

RedWineAllMine · 24/02/2019 17:05

Their red velvet cake! It's delicious! It's on the buns/cake section. It's like £1.30 or something and it's the best cake I've ever had. I also love browsing up the middle isles to see what they have n I often come back with some random thing.
I avoid buying fresh vegetables in there like potatoes carrots etc as I find it goes off really quick. I do my food shop at Lidl but buy fresh veg from Asda or Tesco. You can't buy everything at Lidl, you always need a top up from another supermarket.
Their deluxe hand stretched pizzas are nice, in the fridge department where the pies etc are. They are £3.50 each but they are the same price in Asda, Tesco etc and Lidl's are nicer.
Avoid buying their cheap packets noodles, they are dry and not very nice when cooked. However you have to buy to try I suppose. Everyone's pallet is different.

RedWineAllMine · 24/02/2019 17:08

Palette* typo

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 24/02/2019 17:22

Yes of course the Aisle of Shite - or Aisles of Silly if it's a larger store.

Heyha · 24/02/2019 17:29

I'm not mad on the meat, sausages dry and the mince a bit 'strong' but I am fussy. DP says it's fine, he's normal 😂

Fruit and veg is excellent as is the majority of the rest of the stuff. The fruit bread loaf is a treat! I've never had anything out of the freezer though.

Raera · 24/02/2019 17:33

On the noodles topic, the straight to wok are half the price of Asda.

Nannewnannew · 24/02/2019 18:04

stabbybitch Do you live near Southampton by any chance? A Lidl has opened in our village last Thursday! Good luck and hope enjoy browsing!

MillicentSnitch · 24/02/2019 18:12

Fennel salami. Buffalo milk mozzarella.

FoxBaseBeta · 24/02/2019 19:29

Fig and walnut bread, especially if it's fresh out of the ovens Smile

stabbybitch · 24/02/2019 19:53

@Nannewnannew yes I do!

Well I'm now excited to see how much of whole shop I can get. Anyone know what the crisps are like?

OP posts:
FrenchyQ · 24/02/2019 20:00

Pork and beef mince 750g for £2.89
Cheese topped rolls from the bakery

Heyha · 24/02/2019 20:08

As a crisp connoisseur I can say the normal walkers-style ones are fine, same as all supermarket types. But even better they have some of the best 'posh' style crisps going as well! The sweet and savoury snack aisles are a real danger zone for me in there!

3in4years · 24/02/2019 20:09

Jelly beans.
Dried fruit.
