The new Lidl that has taken over our village facebook page has finally opened. Im going to go tomorrow and try do a weekly shop but fear I may come back with only alcohol, chocolate & bakery items. Grin

Any items you love or avoid?

Cant wait to mooch up the aisle of shite aka the middle of Lidl

Creamy Greek coconut yogurt !!
Spare rips
Steaks
Amazing fresh rolls and bread
Fish cakes

In fact I just love Lidl and I love Aldi hardly to anywhere else these days!!

Andcake · 24/02/2019 20:18

Low Gi bread
Low calorie cherry fizz ( I am addicted)
81% chocolate
Danpack butter as good as lurpack
Choc and ginger biscuits
Skyr Icelandic yogurt
Screw top prosecco ( so you can have one glass every night 😂)

Quintella · 24/02/2019 20:19

Duck breasts
Padron peppers
Frozen calamari
Full fat Greek yogurt in the bucket
Mini cheesy oatcakes

Years ago I'd say I could only get 75-80% of my shop there, now I'd estimate it's 98%. Unlike previous posters I buy all my fruit and veg there and don't have a problem with its' 'shelf life'. I recently bought their £199 rowing machine (it was a gamble!) but after 3 weeks use I can declare it a definite competitor (given the price) for a Concept 2!

Sexnotgender · 24/02/2019 20:23

I do ALL my shopping in Lidl.

Only thing I’ve ever disliked is the Camembert.

user1486076969 · 24/02/2019 20:24

The 'middle of Lidl' is a must for browsing, it's a bit like Ikea i.e you often come home with something you didn't know you neededGrin.

Sexnotgender · 24/02/2019 20:24

Low GI bread from the bakery is delicious.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/02/2019 20:26

Greek yogurt
Frikadellan (?)
Any of the Greek/Mediterranean special week buys
Cheeses
They do a goats cheese bread thing on the bakery which is very nice
The coffee is excellent

I daren't buy: nuts, Ritter chocolate, any of the chocolate copies, ice creams, profiteroles, gin liquor, because they are too delicious and I eat them all

The only thing I can't get from there is gluten free cat food for my very sensitive cat, and coffee pods for dolce gusto- and I do prefer to buy my veg from a local grocer as everything at Lidl is wrapped in plastic (but apparently this is changing soon as they are going plastic free??)

Fan tail prawns
Prawn cocktail
Spatchcock chicken
Sausages
Salami & cold meats
Cheese
Skyr yogurts
Apricot Wheats cereal and Cheerios
Fruit and veg is fine too
Nuts
Crisps
Chocolate
Frozen fish

funtimespeople · 24/02/2019 20:28

Crisps are great. Lots to choose from

alternateuniverse · 24/02/2019 20:32

DS1 and i are hooked on the tzatziki just now. Really good.

Agree re the deluxe £3.50 pizzas. Better than other supermarkets.

The fancy looking but not expensive dark chocolate bars.

DC really like the cured ham but I cant remember the name/description.

Fruit/veg is fine but not fantastic, prefer it to asda which is our other local option.

Lidl - what shall I buy?
cyantist · 24/02/2019 20:39

Their sweet bbq rib racks are the best, and I have tried ones from every single supermarket

RedWineAllMine · 25/02/2019 17:29

I don't rate their cheapy crisps, like their take on monster munch aren't half as nice as real monster munch. However their deluxe range crisps are fantastic! Reasonably cheap too. Watch out on their deluxe crisps as sometimes they have them on offer for 0.35p a bag n when they do I buy loads!
Lidl wine is nice too. A new Merlot came out recently and that was gorgeous. £4.49, however I can't remember the name! But I'm not too worries as I will recognise it when I next pop in, so I must stock up 😁🍷.
Don't call me red wine all mine for nothing you know!

Runkle · 25/02/2019 17:36

The Chilean red wine is lovely and they do mini bottles for 1.39 so you can always try before you by or have a pick n mix selection Wink
Bucket of Greek yoghurt, serrano ham, sushi, kinder bueno copies, multigrain bites copies, chicken is always good, carrot cake, malple and pecan twist, the mini salami sausages with walnuts are amazing but only there seasonally.

VeryFoolishFay · 25/02/2019 17:37

Fresh fruit and veg is poor in our store, goes off really quickly. I love the baking supplies - nuts etc are great. Jars of sundried tomatoes, greek yoghurt, bakery. Own brand crisps are good, I use a lot of the 39p dark chocolate for baking, its excellent.
My DH doesn't rate the coffee. Use face cream etc, seems good.
We had the deluxe sour dough pizzas this weekend and were really impressed.
I get anxious that I will really like something and they will randomly stop stocking it. And I NEVER visit the middle aisle!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/02/2019 18:05

Also their cien shampoo, the most expensive one at a whole 99p per bottle, is a copy of the Aussie moisture brand, smells identical, and leaves my hair really shiny and silky.

Runkle · 25/02/2019 18:15

Omg yes the sourdough pizzas are probably the nicest pizzas I've ever had (not been to Italy yet so can't compare!)

ohtheholidays · 25/02/2019 20:49

We buy most of our shopping from there.

We buy
White bread and brown bread
croissants
Crumpets
Tea Cakes
Muffins the toasting kind and the chocolate one's and blueberry one's.
Cereal(the noughat pillows are gorgeous)
The Coffee and The Knightsbridge red label tea bags)
They're apple and blackcurrant squash.
The Cola and the fruit juices are lovely.
They're own brand of crisps are as nice as Walkers but a fraction of the cost.
We buy all of our cleaning bits from there(they're called W5),the apple washing liquid is really good,it lasts along time and smells amazing, they're washing powder(Formil)is really good and so are they're baby wipes, toilet wipes and they're toilet rolls.
They're whole salami, sliced ham, cornedbeef and sandwich fillers are really popular with all of our 5DC.
They're cheese, cheese spread and yogurts are lovely as well.

Lidl has saved us a fortune on our shopping I used to spend £175 at least a week for 7 of us now it's usually £120 at the most a week.

OxanaVorontsova · 25/02/2019 20:58

I'm a recent convert - their brioche burger buns are the best, burgers (quarter pounder fresh ones) are good too
Love the cheeses, yoghurts, deli stuff, quiches, pizzas, macarons, posh crisps, cantuccini
