Are you glad you have siblings?

We have a one year old DD who is just amazing. We'd always hoped for two DCs and are deciding now whether to have another.

What's holding me back is that I love her so much I can't imagine feeling the same way about another (I know this is a common fear) and also I worry that she will feel insecure or jealous in some way if we have another baby.

She does also have a couple of congenital problems and my DH was concerned that if we had another DC without these problems she might look at the other DC and wonder why they are different. Our drs don't think it's genetic and was a sporadic thing that they can't explain, but we do worry as well that if we had another DC they could have a much worse disability.

I'm an only child and although I was very lucky and had a very happy childhood, I do think I would be a better person and more adept socially if I'd had siblings. I'd love to think of her as having more family than just us, although I know we can't guarantee they would grow up close.

Just love her so much and want to make the right decision for her I guess so would love to hear your thoughts.

@Adversecamber22

I hear this.

There have been times I've wanted to start threads about my sisters behaviour but knew I would be called an unbelievable doormat or a troll. The real life specifics lend more credence to the stories, but they are the bits it is essential to leave out due to need to anonymise

I have two brothers. I am the eldest the next is 22months younger than me we aren't close he rarely speaks to me, and in fact when he does it's usually to ask for a favour or to tell me to shut up. My other brother is 10 years younger and has additional needs and I'm more of a carer than a sister.
I have one child with complex additional needs and I wouldn't have another. She needs a lot of care and I don't want to land her with a sibling that she doesn't like or who doesn't like her. Or a sibling that also needs a lot of additional care.

Yes, I am. My brother and I were very close as children. We are less close now, but I'm still glad he's there.

My own dc are close and it's a wonderful thing to see.

I have a twin brother who I love to bits and a brother a year older with whom i didn't get on with as a child but now we re the best of friends.We have all been geographically separated over the years as we have all moved countries and continents a few times.None of us live near our parents who are getting on in years.We get together as often as we can with our families and it gets quite lively.Our respective spouses and us all get on.My husband gets on better with my siblings than with his own.He has no relationship whatsoever with his brother and sister who we live close to.That can also happen and I find it so sad.i have tried to bring my husband and his sister together so often but it is impossible.I have given up now.

I don't want to say "no" because he's a good guy and a great dad, but we don't have a relationship despite living quite close. No falling-out, we just don't have a relationship anymore. He won't be much help when our parents die. We also don't talk about shared memories. To be honest, he never seems to remember any of it.

No, wish I didn’t have one and the other isn’t brilliant either.

I have two sisters
They are very very close but I’m not that close to either and one in particular not at all. I don’t speak to her at all outside family meet ups. Don’t dislike each other at all just two completely different people and we have nothing to talk about.
