Loreena McKennit, Celtic-ish folk, very fey, very relaxing and beautiful. Her 'Lady of Shallott' makes me cry.

RomanyQueen1 · 19/02/2019 15:34

Alternative to what?

Raera · 19/02/2019 15:34

Have a listen to Solange.
Not a bit like her sister. I saw her live last year, stunning stage show.

Hannah Peel, also seen her live, amazing musician.
Usually does her own stuff, but her version of Tainted Love is really good.

lastqueenofscotland · 19/02/2019 15:48

What do you mean by alternative?

Bluesheep8 · 19/02/2019 15:52

Yes, what do you mean by alternative? To what?

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 19/02/2019 15:55

"Alternative" is a very broad term, but you perhaps mean different to the charts pop/dancey type stuff... From what era though? My taste is very 80s and 90s orientated! Tori Amos, Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo etc

hugoagogo · 19/02/2019 16:11

This alternative music map is a fun way of exploring bands you might have missed.

fuddle · 19/02/2019 16:41

Alternative to what's in the charts now. I can look on Spotify and use music apps but I'm just looking for other ideas. Anything I'm not saying I will like all suggestions but its worth a shot. Current music

I like the Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins etc. It's all mad before my time, but good music is good music.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 19/02/2019 18:05

Lowkey, akala, immortal technique

Crystalblue13 · 19/02/2019 18:08

Eluveitie are a really good Swiss folk metal band 🤟

Dreamzcancometrue · 19/02/2019 18:12

Austra, vivii, vaardell, ji nilson, ms mr
(Electro pop but not mainstream)

Btw I love alternative bands! Not really a fan of chart music.

Glitteryfrog · 19/02/2019 18:18

The new Bring Me the Horizon album is really good.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 19/02/2019 18:25

I second The Pixies, and will add Rage Against the Machine, the early Manic Street Preachers stuff, The Levellers, Ani di Franco (brilliant female vocalist, like Tori Amos)

pusspuss9 · 19/02/2019 18:26

I love Loreena McKennit as well.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 19/02/2019 18:38

Grandaddy, Death Cab for Cutie, Nada Surf, Ben Folds, Laura Viers, Rogue Wave.

HarrietSchulenberg · 19/02/2019 19:12

I'm really enjoying Anteros, The Big Moon and Mattiel at the moment.
My evergreen music (the stuff that's never too from my playlists) is the Pixies, Manics, Levellers, 10,000 Maniacs, Fatima Mansions, early REM, Pop Will Eat Itself and the Wonderstuff, but that's mainly because they sneakily weaved themselves into the fabric of my life when I was much younger, and we refuse to let eachother go Grin.

AlphaSigma · 19/02/2019 19:23

Is Northern Soul alternative?
Some fabulous foot stomping oldies if so.

notanothernam · 19/02/2019 19:33

I love country music, I'm loving Kacey Musgrave's Golden Hour. Not sure if that's alternative!

notanothernam · 19/02/2019 19:34

Especially as it won a Grammy 😂

Kobrakid · 19/02/2019 19:36
