Just listen to 6 music and you will discover all sorts Smile

RomanyQueen1 · 19/02/2019 19:39

I see what you mean now OP, wasn't being difficult.

I like anything other than chart music, the reason being I've always listened to a wide variety and also influenced by styles when friends or family have played something. There aren't any genres I don't like as they all have something good.

MechaStreisand · 19/02/2019 19:41

Recent(ish) bands I've discovered: Bas Jan (especially "No Sign"), Cate Le Bon, Jane Weaver (love "Mission Desire")

A few old faves I can never let go of:
Stereolab, Broadcast, Kate Bush, The Smiths, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, early PJ Harvey (Dry and Pure albums), Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure

I'm loving that alternative map too hugoagogo

Five Finger Death Punch are pretty amazing :)

Most of my alternative favourites date from when I went clubbing in the 80s so:
The Cramps
Soft Cell (am listening to the extended version of Memorabilia right now)
Marc and The Mambas

VanillaSauce · 19/02/2019 19:56

Spongle, Ed Tangent, Astralasia, Eat Static. Probably an acquired taste really but they've all been around for years.

Shadow01 · 19/02/2019 20:02

Show of hands, levellers, Seth lakeman, the shires. All worth a listen.

Anything by the Counting Crows
My son is crazy about Childish Gambino at the moment and his music is great

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 20/02/2019 19:22

For super recent, the new album by Better Oblivion Community Centre is gorgeous - collaboration between Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes etc)

thefirstmrsdewinter · 20/02/2019 19:38

Currently listening to Courtney Barnett, Connan Mockasin, Parquet Courts (all playing at All Points East in May and I've just bought tickets so that's what's on my radar at the mo). I agree with pp that R6 Music is a good place to start if you're looking for something new that isn't the usual chart stuff.
If I'm playing old music it's likely to be punk or 80s indie (Stooges, Cramps, Smiths, Specials, Clash etc etc).

Crappygilmore · 20/02/2019 19:52

Id go with 3 daft monkeys
Frank Turner
Dreadzone
The Levellers
Seth Lakeman
Fuck it just come to Beautiful Days festival.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 20/02/2019 20:13

Yep, love Courtney Barnett and Lake Street Dive.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/02/2019 20:19

Suede. Their recent album, The Blue Hour is amazing. 💙

GirlfriendInAKorma · 20/02/2019 20:21

@lemonface @thefirstmrsdewinter ... I loved R6M until they arsed up the schedule...! My afternoons are not the same now with no RadMac... 😫

Public Service Broadcasting- listen to them if you haven't already OP.
