Friends- the one with free porn

When friends was first shown in the UK they didn't show this episode. But so many key plot lines happen in this episode- phoebe finds out she's having triplets, and Ross goes after Emily, tells her he loves her, and she says 'thanks'.

So how did they do that then??!

I'm currently watching it, and can't remember. Did they just edit out the free porn bits, or was there an entirely separate episode where they reiterated these key things?

They just skipped the entire episode on E4. I remember thinking one time, hang on, when does Phoebe find out its triplets? Looked it up online and realised I’d never seen that episode. I never saw it until we watched them all on Netflix.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 15/02/2019 18:50

i have seen that episode, quite a few times...and we only just got netflix so it's all been C4 and or E4

BitchQueen90 · 15/02/2019 18:53

They showed it on Channel 4 recently but they skipped some of the parts.

They're showing reruns on Channel 4 at 4pm and they haven't been censoring any words like porn or bitch.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/02/2019 18:57

They definitely didn't show it on E4

How did we ever learn about the triplets then???!

BQ I wonder if censorship rules have changed now? I'm thinking of the sort of 2006-2010 (??) era when they were on E4 constantly pretty much back to back

I am watching it now and haven't seen the show for years, it's looking quite dated unfortunately.

Really? I'm pretty sure I remember watching it as a teenager (when Friends was on its original run).

Although I had that series on video so I might have just watched it on video and assumed I'd missed it when it was on TV.

ValleyoftheHorses · 15/02/2019 19:03

Sure I saw it on the original run too, maybe they had complaints and then cut it?

TheDuckSaysMoo · 15/02/2019 19:03

Yep, I definitely remember it from the original c4 days.

ArfArfBarf · 15/02/2019 19:04

Original run was shown after the watershed maybe?

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 15/02/2019 19:04

Bless you for thinking it was first shown on e4 in the noughties. Try channel 4 in the nineties Grin

And yes, they showed it on the original c4 run.

Didiusfalco · 15/02/2019 19:05

Can anyone tell me which series/episode this is? - I feel the need to go and check if I’ve watched it!

ALemonyPea · 15/02/2019 19:06

I definitely saw that episode in the 90s, not on video or DVD.

CaptainBrickbeard · 15/02/2019 19:07

I was thinking about this episode recently and how it shows how much the show has dated. Nowadays, Joey and Chandler would have access to free porn everywhere they go with far more extreme content. I wonder if the show was made now if porn could be a source of comedy the way it was in the show at the time?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/02/2019 19:17

Yeah I'm not old enough to have watched the original run, I did see some but didn't watch every episode.

The E4 ad nauseum repeat run is when i first properly watched them. It was on the video/DVD's etc.

It's just that it's quite a key episode really, in plot terms. It seems strange to omit it and not need to reiterate key details.

Captain and yeah I agree. It's actually really dated, very old fashioned about things like gay rights and using 'gay/lesbian' as humour for example. I loved the show for years but watching it now it seems quite cringey.

Magstermay · 15/02/2019 19:19

I don’t think E4 existed when it was first aired 😂

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 15/02/2019 19:52

never mind E4, we used to have to wait A WHOLE WEEK for the next episode

none of this binge watching, self gratification, oh no.....just your basic 30 minutes, then a whole week for the next!!

ProfYaffle · 15/02/2019 19:55

I saw that episode on C4 in the 90's. As others have said, it was shown after the watershed so that was probably why?

RavenLG · 15/02/2019 19:55

I’m 31 and remember watching this episode not on dvd / Netflix etc. Definitely tv.

BartonHollow · 15/02/2019 19:55

When Friends was first on in the 90s on CHANNEL FOUR on Fridays at 9pm they definitely showed it

If it was before the watershed on the many E4 reruns

E4 was not the first showing

RavenLG · 15/02/2019 19:55

*when I was a teenager

BartonHollow · 15/02/2019 19:56

Oh and see I've cross posted

By quite a lot

Thesearmsofmine · 15/02/2019 19:57

I remember watching the original run on channel 4 on a Friday night. Frasier was on too I think?

PandaMa · 15/02/2019 19:59

I'm sure I remember watching new episodes (back in the day) at 9pm? So as pp said possibly shown after watershed!

jigsawpiece · 15/02/2019 20:00

10pm Friends, 10.30pm Frasier as I recall
