Friends- the one with free porn

When friends was first shown in the UK they didn't show this episode. But so many key plot lines happen in this episode- phoebe finds out she's having triplets, and Ross goes after Emily, tells her he loves her, and she says 'thanks'.

So how did they do that then??!

I'm currently watching it, and can't remember. Did they just edit out the free porn bits, or was there an entirely separate episode where they reiterated these key things?

This is too funny.

Friends used to be on at 9pm on channel 4 before E4 even existed.

When it was shown on E4 it was at 6pm (I think) which is pre watershed and as it wasn’t the original airing it didn’t matter that they skipped an episode.

MrsPinkCock · 15/02/2019 21:09

Like PPs said, this episode was definitely aired years and years ago.

I had the whole series 4 that I tape recorded and could recite it almost word for word and that episode was definitely on there!

BrusselPout · 15/02/2019 21:28

I'm sure I watched it during the original run, certainly never had any 'that doesn't make sense' moments, and we all watched it religiously at the time

PinkBuffalo · 15/02/2019 21:34

I remember that episode when it originally aired too. Like PPs have said Friends used to be on at 9pm on a Friday. I remember girl guides used to finish at that time and we all used to leave 10 mins early when the new series aired Grin

ChesterGreySideboard · 15/02/2019 21:39

Oh lord I feel old.
I was a student when it first aired on Channel 4 in the 90s, back when there were only 4 channels!

I remember seeing that episode.

SurfClub · 15/02/2019 21:43

YABVVVU (even if we aren't in AIBU) I've just been thinking about this and laughing about the switchboard lady in work who always used to phone me with a prank call in as the music started at 9pm on Fridays when I was on call just to hear me bluster about why I couldn't come in. Then I realised, that was nearly 25 years ago. HOW THE HELL DID FRIENDS BECOME AND OLD TV SHOW??? How is it so long since I was 21?

And yes, that episode was shown originally because that's the only time I watched the series and yet I remember it like it was yesterday.

I feel like I'm only 5 minutes away from recalling all episodes of Friends yet not knowing what I had for lunch.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 15/02/2019 21:45

As above definitely on originally at the channel 4 9pm time.
I used to collect all the videos (especially if they were in the hmv sale) and each series was a different colour spine and they used to take up half the bookcase! But we would watch them over and over

And all of this was just fields

ManonBlackbeak · 15/02/2019 21:52

This is OT, but recently a 10 year old girl asked me if I'd ever watched friends. Hello? I'm a 90's child! Of course Ive watched friends! But it's incrediably popular again with kids and and young teens like it was when we were growing up. I work in a Primary school and often hear the year 5s and 6s talking about it.

BusySittingDown · 15/02/2019 21:53

Yeah I'm not old enough to have watched the original run, I did see some but didn't watch every episode.

Get out! Grin You must be 12 then! .

I used to love Friday nights when Friends was on. It was on at 9.30 for some series as I remember that Cybil was on at 9, then Friends and then Roseanne.

I was ages 11 to 21 during its original run.

golddigga · 15/02/2019 21:55

@SurfClub I feel like I'm only 5 minutes away from recalling all episodes of Friends yet not knowing what I had for lunch.

Yes deffo this ☝️

Drogosnextwife · 15/02/2019 22:14

I'm 28 and I remember watching the originals on c4 as a child. I'm sure I remember this one, but I had them all on video so may have watched it there. I.loved friends bit agree with a pp it's a bit cringey to watch now, and a bit sexist sometimes. Ross was a complete fucker. Always hated him but couldn't quote figure out why as a child bit watching it as an adult I see why.

SurfClub · 15/02/2019 22:21

Glad someone else understands.

It's a tiny bit heartbreaking when people put they were a 'child of the 90's' and you realise you were an adult of the 90's instead Grin.

Drogos if you watched the original series on C4 as a child you'd have been about 4. I guess it carried on a lot longer after that though. I used to work in a children's hospital and people born in the 90's were my patients! It was so good when it started, really exciting tv, especially as we didn't have the internet or more than 4 channels. All fields, ALLLLL fields Grin. I miss the days The Simpsons were only on once a week though.

HeyCarrieAnneWhatsYourGame · 15/02/2019 22:23

I definitely saw this on its original run. This was the spring/summer of 1998, I recall it distinctly because my best friend had just moved house and her parents had lived there 20yrs last year. We watched it in her brand new bedroom, boxes and all, and discussed whether we had ever seen any porn (we hadn’t, we were pre modern day internet teenagers.... the closest we came was Euro Trash).

goldengummybear · 15/02/2019 22:28

I remember Friends starting in Autumn 1994. Confused

goldengummybear · 15/02/2019 22:29

I realise you mean the actual episode - no idea when but definitely seen it. Lol

BartonHollow · 15/02/2019 22:32

The OP may be too Blush to come back but if they are 35 as their username suggests, are they some sort of time traveller? 🤔 that's the important question here

Cocolepew · 15/02/2019 22:33

Im sure Comedy Central showed this episode when they had the series.

OlennasWimple · 15/02/2019 22:34

I just started to post on the thread in Active about a children's book, then realised that the reason I didn't recognise it AT ALL was because it was read as a child in 1994/95

righthandedandlefteyed · 15/02/2019 22:39

"A protective porn bubble, if you will".

I'm 40 and never watched in other than on terrestrial TV so if I can quote that line it's cos it aired on TV.

Drogosnextwife · 15/02/2019 22:41

@SurfClub

Hmm maybe they were reruns, definitely remember watching them on c4 at night and waiting a week for the next one 😂

dragonsfire · 15/02/2019 22:44

The original run was at 9pm so think was shown it’s oniy reruns they skipped it but they definitely have shown on C4 & E4 since before 9pm

SurfClub · 15/02/2019 23:00

@Drogosnextwife it was on for nearly a decade, maybe you just missed the earlier series in real time! It's so weird looking back on TV we just watched when it was on then waited, I actually enjoy the few programmes that are on at the moment where you get to anticipate the next episode unlike Greys Anatomy which I've only just discovered and can probably watch 10 at a time whilst cultivating a DVT.

CheeseWheel · 15/02/2019 23:13

I suspect it may be skipped if they air them earlier. If I recall most of the videos were a PG or 12 but the one with that episode on was rated 15 so it would make sense that it was fine to air at 9/9.30/10 on channel 4 but not at 6pm on E4.

It was definitely on channel 4. I remember it well. Who could forget the protective porn bubble?

Fluffyears · 15/02/2019 23:42

It started in 1994, I was 15 and bought a cd of the theme tune and me and my friend made up a stupid dance and laughed our (teeny) tits off. Ah those were the days.

ALemonyPea · 16/02/2019 07:39

I feel so old! I was 14 when it came out. In my head I'm still in my early 20s!

Only true Friends fans watched it when it first came out. The jokes and storylines are very dated, most things wouldn't happen now, but I still love watching the reruns.

I've always said, if I'm ever in a coma, play the Friends theme tune, I'll definitely wake up just to clap.
