Has anyone done the British-Irish dialect quiz?

Everyone on Twitter seems to be getting really accurate answers but it put me firmly South West & I've only been there twice! I can only think my mix of growing up in one part of the country with parents from another confused it...

Put me right in the middle of the south east, where I was raised!

TheWoollybacksWife · 15/02/2019 13:03

That was pretty cool and surprisingly accurate. Mine came out as north west England (where I was born and lived until I was 21) and east(ish) midlands (where I live now).

AgentProvocateur · 15/02/2019 13:05

It was spot on for me.

Maykid · 15/02/2019 13:05

Mine was fairly accurate, just a bit further south.

ChoudeBruxelles · 15/02/2019 13:06

yes spot on for me

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 15/02/2019 13:18

Very accurate for me (I used the terms I grew up with, mostly, rather than the ones i currently use, which are different in a few cases) - it put me close to the place I grew up and in the place I went to university!

Parthenope · 15/02/2019 13:20

The basic quiz wasn't got the country right, but not the area, or anywhere close but when I did the extended version, with lots more questions, it suggested three areas, one of which is where I was born and grew up till I was 20.

Some of the pronunciation questions were mildly baffling -- what accent pronounces the vowel in 'rode' and 'road' differently?

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 15/02/2019 13:24

In some accents the o in 'rode' can sound more like French 'eau' and 'road' more like 'rawd' or 'raw-ad' (very approximately!).

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 15/02/2019 13:27

Where's the extended version?

TheCag · 15/02/2019 13:27

It was exactly right for me! I never realised I’m so Somerset Grin

Knittedfairies · 15/02/2019 13:27

Accurate for me too.

Parthenope · 15/02/2019 13:28

And -- when I did the basic version and saw my results, it asked me to fill in where I was from into a little box on the left of the screen, and when I did it said 'We have lots more questions to ask you!' and linked to more.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/02/2019 13:30

It showed the town where I live. That's remarkable!

derxa · 15/02/2019 13:31

Very accurate

RedForShort · 15/02/2019 13:32

Don't think mine displayed right. I had maps for particular answers but there was a big white space at the top which I think was supposed to be my main one.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/02/2019 13:37

Parthenope
A strong Dublin accent would something like 'Rode (one syllable) and then 'Ro-ad' (two syllable, longer emphasis on the second)

Shorter quiz was surprisingly accurate as I have a bit of a non-accent that's not usually representative of where I come from. It suggested 3 locations, 1 correct.

Longer quiz was pretty inaccurate, lots of suggestions, none correct. But really interesting to do.

PuppyMonkey · 15/02/2019 13:39

Spot on for me. It was dobby and cob that were the giveaway apparently.Grin

Unihorn · 15/02/2019 13:41

I've done it three times and it still isn't working, just showing a white space Sad

RedForShort · 15/02/2019 13:43

Same her Unihorn. Done it twice and got nothing.

grannycake · 15/02/2019 13:43

Spot on - South Wales

HeyCarrieAnneWhatsYourGame · 15/02/2019 13:45

That’s amazing- it put me within ten miles of where I was brought up.

DaedricLordSlayer · 15/02/2019 13:45

i did the quiz on the other thread from the NY times, I did it twice and I just get blank Sad

AlexaAmbidextra · 15/02/2019 13:47

Spot on. Placed me in London which is where I spent the first 21 years of my life then worked in for many years.

seaweedhead · 15/02/2019 13:50

Interesting. It thinks I'm from the north east, I did live there for a number of years but am from the north west and didn't think my dialect had changed that much.

PlasticPatty · 15/02/2019 13:51

Between Manchester and Leeds - perfect.
