Has anyone done the British-Irish dialect quiz?

Everyone on Twitter seems to be getting really accurate answers but it put me firmly South West & I've only been there twice! I can only think my mix of growing up in one part of the country with parents from another confused it...

OP posts:

Accurately put me as having been brought up in Stoke.

DianaBlythe · 15/02/2019 21:54

My parents are from a very different part of the country than where I grew up and I’ve moved around quite a bit.

The map lights up areas I’ve lived in although it more strongly lights up for where my parents are from and where I went to university and worked for a couple of years than where I grew up and went to school. Very interesting!

RightOnTheEdge · 15/02/2019 22:36

It got the exact city I grew up in.
Mostly from the words Beck and Ginnel.

pinkmagic1 · 15/02/2019 22:48

Got it right for me too right down to the City!

Clevs · 15/02/2019 22:50

I've done it twice and got different questions and different results both times.

DramaAlpaca · 15/02/2019 22:55

It got me bang on, the far North West of England.

It got Irish DH right, down to the county where he grew up.

DS(21) got a mixture of both of those, not surprisingly.

whitehorsesdonotlie · 15/02/2019 23:01

Spot on for me

LesLavandes · 15/02/2019 23:08

Spot on for me too

HerRoyalNotness · 15/02/2019 23:13

It put me in the London area, but said some of my answers were a little odd for that. That’s because I’m form NZ I bet.

mathanxiety · 16/02/2019 06:32

So I am from Dublin.

I knew that all along Wink

Apparently one of the clinchers was the vocab I use for the state of being drunk...

mathanxiety · 16/02/2019 06:35

I also encountered a word my mother used for snails that I have never seen in print anywhere and I wondered if it was something she had made up as a child.

mateysmum · 16/02/2019 06:50

It was correct for me too. Not specific to town but very definitely to the right area.

Stumpted88 · 16/02/2019 06:54

Mine was spot on, named the current city I live in.

I grew up only 30 miles down the road, but the accent variation is quite significant. I knew my accent had changed as people I grew up with tell me on the odd occasion we bump into each other!

emilybrontescorsett · 16/02/2019 07:04

Spot on for me

Fluffytheevil1 · 16/02/2019 07:09

Spot on for me - Newcastle 😎

BrizzleMint · 16/02/2019 07:15

For fun I tired the American one, apparently I am most likely from New York or Honolulu- quite similar areas then Grin

BrizzleMint · 16/02/2019 07:19

Peterborough or St Helier, Jersey on the UK one. Both wildly inaccurate.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 16/02/2019 07:33

It put me in quite a large area, from south east up to Cambridge and over to Bristol, which covers pretty much all the places I've lived and was brought up in when an army brat and since! I do pick up some things from my Irish DH too though, and more northern relatives, I'm a proper mush mash of accents! Find it fascinating.

MysweetAudrina · 16/02/2019 07:33

Mine was spot on - Ireland, Midlands.

Boxerbinky · 16/02/2019 07:45

Spot on for me too!

GottenGottenGotten · 16/02/2019 07:51

It did get it right, but it had me down for half of Scotland so not hugely accurate nonetheless.

Juells · 16/02/2019 09:26

haha - IIRC I selected 'langers' and 'plastered'. Dead giveaway.

RedForShort · 16/02/2019 10:05

Questions seemed to vary too- ds did it and got different questions than I did (-further into the quiz, earlier questions were the same).

Sakura7 · 16/02/2019 14:51

It gives you an option to do more questions to get a more accurate result. I think there's 90 odd questions overall.

Mine was accurate but gave me a large area - pretty much the whole province of Leinster in Ireland. I'm from Dublin so it's ok.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 16/02/2019 14:56

Yes. Accurate for me. Munster, Cork, Ireland.
