Help! I need to find the perfect mug

I have been looking for a new mug for ages now and am reaching a dead end. Obviously this is very important to my quality of life. The mug must be beautiful and a decent size. I’ve seen a few nice ones but they’re all too small for a decent cuppa.

I like the size of the Cath Kidson ones after I had one years ago but none of the patterns appeal. I like the shape and thickness of the penguin classics ones but they’re too common and not quite big enough. Please help!

Have you looked at Anthropologie?

AiryFairy1 · 15/02/2019 09:27

I tend to favour ones from Sainsbury’s- they’re the perfect shape, slightly curved sides and a good diameter...they’re good for tea and coffee. And replaceable if there’s any casualties Wink

I found my perfect mug in a garden centre. It's beautiful and I swear my tea tastes better in it than any other one.

As soon as I discovered it's wonderfulness I went back and bought three more because I'm a clumsy bastard and bound to break it before long.

If it’s for tea try a glass mug as the tea tastes better in it.

This is my favourite tea mug. It's big and I like the shape as the tea seems to stay warmer in it than my other big mugs. Dunelm do a few designs in this shape. It's very chunky and well made.

I drink instant coffee out of a massive mug about the size of a sports direct one and coffee machine coffee out of one the same shape as this but bigger and prettier. I can't remember where it was from though www.dunelm.com/product/gordon-ramsay-royal-doulton-grey-maze-mug-1000076869

Good lord woman what is this madness? 😂 Last time I used a glass mug I nearly gave myself third degree burns!

HarrySnotter · 15/02/2019 09:37

Oh I love that giraffe mug!

whitershadeofpale · 15/02/2019 10:09

I'm not a fan of a glass mug I'm afraid. My current mug is from Sainsbury's but it was just a stop gap after I broke mine when moving. I looked last week and couldn't find anything I liked.

I like the shape of the Gordon Ramsay Royal Doulton one, but find it a touch boring. The giraffe one is better but not 'it'.

Thanks everyone, off to look at Anthropologie..

Emma Bridgwater mugs are awesome.

Sexnotgender · 15/02/2019 10:12

The 1/2 pint ones are a good size for tea.

PetuliaBlavatsky · 15/02/2019 10:15

I found the perfect mug in a gift shop in Cornwall last year. Big and thick enough to not be fragile - I'm a clumsy oaf so I need thick crockery! My second favourite is a Sainsburys one, same sort of shape but much thinner.
The shape of that giraffe mug is very pleasing.
What about somewhere like the Range or Dunelm? I find the best mugs are usually cheap and cheerful ones.

I love Emma bridgewater mugs

Tryingtogetitright · 15/02/2019 10:17

There's always a good selection in T K Maxx. Good luck on the hunt!

Disfordarkchocolate · 15/02/2019 10:19

Such is life at the moment I have this one on my wishlist www.susiewatsondesigns.co.uk/fritillary-conical-mug.html

whitershadeofpale · 15/02/2019 10:20

I like Emma Bridgewater but I didn't really want to spend more than £15. I don't live near a Dunelm or The Range.

What's your preferred volume of liquid?
And do you prefer straight mugs or more curved? Thick or thin china?

whitershadeofpale · 15/02/2019 10:28

I'm not sure about volume as I've never measured it. Not sport's direct size but big enough to nurse.
I prefer curved but not thin at the bottom like a teacup, more of an even curve. Thick china.

I love that I live in a land where the importance of the mug is so understood. This makes me very happy. Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/02/2019 10:29

I like Le Crueset mugs. If you live near an outlet mall, you can probably get one for a bit less than £15.

potatosaladnquiche · 15/02/2019 10:29

Oooooh I got this loooovely mug recently, think it holds 400ml though the handle is a tad small. Two fingers still fit fine.

whitershadeofpale · 15/02/2019 10:29

The handle should be big enough to get at least a finger through, which rests on the body of the mug.
