Help! I need to find the perfect mug

I have been looking for a new mug for ages now and am reaching a dead end. Obviously this is very important to my quality of life. The mug must be beautiful and a decent size. I’ve seen a few nice ones but they’re all too small for a decent cuppa.

I like the size of the Cath Kidson ones after I had one years ago but none of the patterns appeal. I like the shape and thickness of the penguin classics ones but they’re too common and not quite big enough. Please help!

whiter the Denby one? I was disappointed with the size but its good for kind of slipping two fingers through and holding the body with the rest of your hand

Sexnotgender · 15/02/2019 10:34

I got le creuset mugs in tk maxx for £7.99 each. Also Sophie conran portmerion mugs are great and regularly in tk maxx.

It’s definitely worth a shufty in there if you have one nearby.

My current favourites are a Sainsbury's mug that's huge and a hand made one from an "artisan" pottery. However they are coffee mugs...I prefer a thin China one for tea (I have turned into my mother!).

Yes the Denby one. There is a TK Maxx nearby so might be worth braving a visit.

Habitat worth a look for big, slightly chunkier mugs. I have the Magda and an earlier version of the Blot and love them both for capacity, handle and huggable shape. You may also like the Lyra. (Sorry, don't know how to post links properly)

Such an important purchase so very good luck with it.

TheFairyCaravan · 15/02/2019 10:45

We have got Sophie Allport mugs. They do 2 sizes, we've got the large (they were £14) and they hold a lovely sized cup of tea.

Have you tried looking on etsy? Will have to sift through a lot of rubbish but could find something really nice and handmade for about the same price £10-£15

whitershadeofpale · 15/02/2019 10:48

I appreciate how seriously you all understand this to be.

I did look on Etsy, but there was so much that I gave up in the end. It's hard as I don't have any keywords.

Emma Bridgewater often has seconds on the website.

These are my current favourites:

^link is to Scion mugs not Emma B.

I have some le creuset mugs which are satisfyingly chunky but these Jansen & Co ones are my new favourite, they come in various different colours but this morning's coffee is in this yellow one... Mug choice is a serious business. My husband was a bit cavalier when the blue one broke, and strong words were exchanged.
lovely mug

Blueuggboots · 15/02/2019 10:55

I have found my people!!!
I'm so flipping fussy!
I've got a lovely one I bought from a charity shop in Tintagel but it's new as they sell items from a particular artist.

longwayoff · 15/02/2019 10:57

Me too. Then I plan to marry him Grin

PottyPotterer · 15/02/2019 10:57

The Nicola spring range on rinkit.com is lovely, and cheap! . Cups come in different sizes and have matching kitchen crockery.

Le Creuset stoneware for coffee, for tea it needs to be china - I've got a mixture of tea cups/mugs I'm not a huge tea fan so not as fussy as I am for coffee cups!

AlanThePig · 15/02/2019 10:57

I live near Emma Bridgewater so often go for a mooch around their outlet and buy seconds mugs etc

@whitershadeofpale TK Maxx have recently had a few Emma Bridgewater mugs in store. Spotty ones if I recall and they were about £10 so well worth a look in your local one.

Darkbaptism · 15/02/2019 11:00

I bought a Cath Kidson Stanley mug because it had guinea pigs on, I’v bought a couple more since then as they are just so lovely to hold and drink from.

Portobello CM04382 Anglesey Purple Leaves Stoneware Mug www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B011S419F6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TWPzCbHW4C6FX?tag=mumsnetforum-21 is my favourite for 'cupping' shape

Villanellesproudmum · 15/02/2019 11:04

Have you looked at Cornishware?

AlanThePig · 15/02/2019 11:06

@Darkbaptism I love the pets party range! I wish they would revive that print.

I'm also fussy about mugs and it sounds like we have similar taste.

DP bought me this mug www.radley.co.uk/chunky-dog-mug-aw18-ebe908/ for christmas and I love it.

Its thick, but not too thick, it feels nice in your hand and it holds more than the average cup.

MeetMeInMontauk · 15/02/2019 11:39

Mr Mann, is that you?

I love Dunoon mugs, they come in all shapes and sizes and have millions of fanstatic designs-I’ve got 6 all with lovely pictures on.

I also have loads of mugs from Anthropologie, also gorgeous. Lots of different designs etc.

T2 as well. Insanely expensive though! I’ll often pop into the shop just to admire them.

JellySlice · 15/02/2019 12:11

Dunoon Glencoe mugs are the best mugs EVER.

Not sure whether they fit your criteria, but dh and I love them.

Massive - nearly a whole pint of tea Grin.
China - so they are lightweight, even with said pint of tea.
And a big handle - easy to hold.
