How many pizzas for 25 people?

Hosting a 'pizza and cupcakes' party and wondering how many pizzas I would need to order to feed 25? (I'm crap at judging food quantities...) Bearing in mind that the main focus of the evening is the socialising, i.e. I'm not trying to provide a full meal as such (it's literally just pizza and cupcakes), but I don't want to look stingy either... obv depends on pizza sizes, but if anyone can help me guess at a rough ballpark figure assuming we're talking 'large' pizzas it'd be much appreciated... thanks in advance!

I would say around half a large pizza per person, with some people eating more. I would go with 14.

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 13/02/2019 12:28

Uh... 25 Grin

TinklyLittleLaugh · 13/02/2019 12:30

How big is a large though?

Kez200 · 13/02/2019 12:31

Half large one each.

Check for gluten free as can get them now

Hermano · 13/02/2019 12:31

If you're not providing dinner as such then assuming they're large pizzas a quarter each sounds fine. Some people will have one or zero slices, some will have a close to half a pizza as they can. With a cupcake too noone needs more than 2 slices as a snack!

Only buy 14 if you're specifically providing dinner or they're tiny, otherwise you'll be left with about 8 cold pizzas at the end

Stompythedinosaur · 13/02/2019 12:31

Assuming we're talking massive takeaway size pizzas I'd say 7. A bit over 3 slices each (assuming 12 slices per pizza).

MrsJayy · 13/02/2019 12:31

I was going to say similar 13/14 will be enough if you square rather than triangle it goes further.

GreenThing · 13/02/2019 12:31

Who are your guests?

If there are teenagers, or people like me Grin , you'll need about 25.

Other people' pizza always tastes better, people will grab a slice of pepperoni, a slice of mushroom, some lunatic might go for pineapple...

Before you know it, they've eaten a whole pizza.

If there are polite and dainty people, maybe only 19-20.

HotChocolateLover · 13/02/2019 12:32

Really depends on size. If they were the large create your own from somewhere like Asda then half each probably fine. I might get 2 or 3 spare though in case there were some greedy guts (me!)

Hermano · 13/02/2019 12:32

Seriously people would expect half a large pizza and a cake as a snack at a social evening?

I'm a greedy guys but even I think this is bonkers

JumpOrBePushed · 13/02/2019 12:32

I’d go with about half a pizza per person.

Ellabella989 · 13/02/2019 12:32

I’d say half a pizza each if they are standard large size ones and there will also be cupcakes

Lludmilla · 13/02/2019 12:33

Just checked and the place I'm ordering from does a large size of 15 inches which they say serves 12 people (a slice each I'm guessing)...

If it's not a full meal, I would have thought that people would average 2 or 3 slices at most, from a pizza with 8 slices, plus slightly more than 1 cupcake per person as some won't have any and some might have 2. So say 8 large pizzas and 30-36 cupcakes?

Get a variety of flavours of pizza, mostly vegetarian with just one or two with pepperoni or chicken on for maximum flexibility on preferences.

Advantage of both pizzas and cupcakes is that they are easy to give away as leftovers, just take a roll of foil or offer any leftovers in the boxes.

Curious to see the other responses from the 'I can eat a large pizza and half a dozen cupcakes as a snack' to 'I couldn't possibly eat anything as carby as pizza aren't you providing any fish and salad with nuts for afters'.

DeathBySnuSnu · 13/02/2019 12:33

Agree with tahihitiitsamagicalplace Grin

MondeoFan · 13/02/2019 12:35

I'd say 2 slices each for a snack so 50 slices so if you get 10 slices in a large then 5 pieces. Depends on size of slices I'd say. Some people might only have 1 slice so if someone has 3 it should work out

StealthPolarBear · 13/02/2019 12:36

Please do plenty of vego ones. Most meat eaters grab a slice of vegi pizza too so if there's only one vegetarian one...
And no weird vegetables on them either thanks :o

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/02/2019 12:38

Well that's because most meat eaters also eat vegetables, something that many people in catering seem to forget. They think they are catering for a minority of vegetarians when in fact they should be expecting nearly everyone to eat the vegetarian options.

MrsJayy · 13/02/2019 12:38

If they are saying it feeds 12 they mean a slice each so maybe go for 8.

multivac · 13/02/2019 12:40

otherwise you'll be left with about 8 cold pizzas at the end

You say this like it's a bad thing... Grin

StealthPolarBear · 13/02/2019 12:40

Yes exactly. I have no problem with meat eaters eating vegi things! I just find it odd that usually the food on offer doesn't reflect that.

TalkinPeece · 13/02/2019 12:41

The more people, the less they will eat
on a 15 inch pizza
allow two slices for women
and three for men
and 25 for teenage boys Grin

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 13/02/2019 12:41

Is it going to be clear to your guests that it’s a snack, not a full dinner? If I was invited to a pizza and cupcakes party I would probably assume that it would be a full meal, I wouldn’t eat dinner beforehand.

MrsJayy · 13/02/2019 12:42

I don't like meat on pizza I always go for the veg

mama1980 · 13/02/2019 12:42

When I have friends over we often have pizza and I always assume half a large pizza each. And usually offer some salad and dips too.
I usually end up with only a few slices left.
