How many pizzas for 25 people?

Lludmilla · 13/02/2019 12:26

Hosting a 'pizza and cupcakes' party and wondering how many pizzas I would need to order to feed 25? (I'm crap at judging food quantities...) Bearing in mind that the main focus of the evening is the socialising, i.e. I'm not trying to provide a full meal as such (it's literally just pizza and cupcakes), but I don't want to look stingy either... obv depends on pizza sizes, but if anyone can help me guess at a rough ballpark figure assuming we're talking 'large' pizzas it'd be much appreciated... thanks in advance!

allow two slices for women and three for men

😂
Penis portions alive and well I see.

BlackCatSleeping · 13/02/2019 14:18

Is anyone else getting anxiety from this question?

I’d probably go for 8. If people are there for a long time, they’ll eat more. Id have some backup snacks prepared and also some baggies to take some home if there are leftovers.

TeacupDrama · 13/02/2019 14:48

allow two slices for women and three for men

well given that the average adult man is about 6-8" taller and 2 stone heavier than average woman and needs on average an extra 500 calories a day I don't think it's a gender crime to say men on average will eat a bit more than women as they need a bit more food giving everyone the same portion regardless of height age weight is just silly

allow two slices for women and three for men
Oh FFS
I regularly cater for corporate events and parties
and I hate food waste
so decades of experience tells me that groups of women eat MUCH less than groups of men
and in a mixed group the women east about 2/3 of what the men eat

If you have a problem with that, tough.

I know this is MN and everyone is wealthy but would peope seriously order a pizza each from takeaway if they had 25 people coming over? That could easily cost £2-300! Plus cupcakes. This is just a social evening, that's a lot to spend on snacks.

I may have misunderstood the meeting purpose...

Also getting an advance order in with a specific pizza for each person is also bonkers. Much better to get a selection and let people pick and choose.

I have to step away from this thread. It's making me think you're all mad. And making me hungry for pizza

PickAChew · 13/02/2019 16:49

I'd order 4 or 5 of the 15". One absolutely plain cheese and tomato, one or two more veggie and a couple of meaty ones.

namechange21 · 13/02/2019 16:51

Absolutely 25

maxelly · 13/02/2019 16:56

I think I'd want to allow about half a large pizza each, so in the region of 12. I agree that's quite a lot for a snack but I also think that if it's an afternoon or evening event then people will probably treat it as a meal rather than a snack (I certainly wouldn't snack on pizza although I love it as a meal). The exception would be either if it's a morning thing or a late evening buffet after a wedding or similar (so well after regular dinner time).

If you want to just provide snacks and no meal, you might be better off dropping the pizza idea and just do crisps, nuts, dips etc?

Petalflowers · 13/02/2019 16:56

if I was going to a pizza and cupcake evening, I think I would, probably expect some salad as well. Unless people know it’s literally pizza and cupcakes.

I would assume half a pizza per person with salad, but a whole, pizza without (depending on size of pizza).

Are you buying takeaway or cooking them yourselves?

ApolloandDaphne · 13/02/2019 16:58

There is no way OP needs 25 15" pizzas. That is just ridiculous.

OP can you clarify who is attending the party - children, teens, adults or a mix?

Is the party theme Pizza and Cupcakes with the food there from the start or is it lots of drinks then breaking out the food later?

Is the party for a reason? Birthday or some such celebration or part of another activity like a book club?

mellongoose · 13/02/2019 17:12

Are you heating them all at home? You may end up spending most of the evening in the kitchen!!!

TalkinPeece · 13/02/2019 17:19

I've done supermarket pizzas for a houseful of teens
16 huge pizzas, 4 at a time in the oven
took less than an hour

delivery pizza, our local non chain place does fab 3 for 2 deals so 12 big pizzas came to around £50

LeonoraFlorence · 13/02/2019 17:28

If it’s the large dominoes type ones I’d say about 20? It all depends on age/what else there is to eat and drink/time of day etc etc.

winsinbin · 13/02/2019 17:35

It’s so vague. If it was people with appetites like me, DH and DC then 4 or 5 15” Dominoes pizzas would be more than enough for 25. If we factor in youngish men and some of my mates, who eat a lot more then 10 wouldn’t be enough. I’d err on the side of caution and accept I might be eating up left over pizzas for a couple of days.

Why? Vegetarianism is a minority lifestyle choice, in the UK.

Shelbybear · 13/02/2019 17:59

We aren't very helpful with all the differing opinions!

I was thinking 3 people to 1 pizza and rounding up would be 8 pizzas.

I would maybe just get some additional snacks in just in case u get a greedy lot. Maybe like popcorn, crisps & dips, nuts etc. If they aren't required then u can eat another day.

Shelbybear · 13/02/2019 17:59

Sorry I meant 9 pizzas rounding up!

MrsJayy · 13/02/2019 18:00

Choosing to eat meat is also a choice I dont think vegetarianism is a minority choice

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 13/02/2019 18:11

If alcohol is involved id say 20 plus salad, dips etc

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/02/2019 18:35

Semper

Whether or not vegetarianism is a minority lifestyle choice is irrelevant as people who meat also eat vegetables, so might like to be able to have a slice of margareta or vegetable pizza as well as or even instead of the alleged popular choices of pepperoni or spicy chicken.

Nearly everyone who eats meat also eats vegetables, obviously the opposite doesn't apply, because as well as vegetarians, you also have people who don't eat pork for religious reasons, don't eat meat when they think it will be low welfare, which will almost always be the case with commercially produced pizza, or simply don't like meat on pizza.

So having lots of pizza that doesn't have meat on means more choice for everyone and allows meat eaters to have whatever pizza they want without being accused of eating all the vegetarians' food because whoever chose the pizza toppings had some ridiculous idea that if you aren't vegetarian, you will want pepperoni and nothing else.

SemperIdem · 13/02/2019 18:55

Barbara
I don’t disagree. I was just interested in your reasoning. For the next time I have to explain (as someone who eats meat personally) why veggie pizzas are more preferable to the “anything and everything that once had a pulse” style topped ones there are currently so popular. Being a meat eater, it’s a difficult one to argue...but now I have one. Thanks Smile

RainbowWaffles · 13/02/2019 19:01

I agree that I doubt people wiill see pizza in the evening so much as a snack and more of a meal. Plus some people are just greedy. I would allow half a pizza each, that’s more than enough if they are 15”. Cupcakes I would order 1.5 x number of people. Most people will eat one and some more, but I can’t imagine anyone going crazy.

I know you don’t want to provide dinner, but you need enough that you don’t run out so it’s better to provide a reasonable amount.

wowfudge · 13/02/2019 19:02

I think you're more likely to have cupcakes left over than pizza tbh.

SemperIdem · 13/02/2019 19:56

Agree people will clear be pizza and leave cupcakes.

I’ve never once eaten more than one cupcake in one day/evening. Pizza on the other hand, I can eat an astonishingly large amount of.

BusterTheBulldog · 14/02/2019 10:12

I really need to know how this works out.
