How many pizzas for 25 people?

Hosting a 'pizza and cupcakes' party and wondering how many pizzas I would need to order to feed 25? (I'm crap at judging food quantities...) Bearing in mind that the main focus of the evening is the socialising, i.e. I'm not trying to provide a full meal as such (it's literally just pizza and cupcakes), but I don't want to look stingy either... obv depends on pizza sizes, but if anyone can help me guess at a rough ballpark figure assuming we're talking 'large' pizzas it'd be much appreciated... thanks in advance!

I also agree with pp about meat eaters eating all the veggie pizza, I would order mostly vegetarian options (margherita, mushroom, etc.) and a couple of meaty ones.

TeacupDrama · 13/02/2019 12:48

if i was served this I would have 2 or 3 slices of pizza DD would have 2, DH would probably have 3-4
cakes DH none, DD 1 though she loves cake so she might want 2 i would have 1 or 2 if especially yummy
for 25 people I would go about 60-70 decent slices of pizza and 35-40 cakes if some people know its pizza they won't have dinner before so will eat at least half a big pizza

Corrag · 13/02/2019 12:50

allow two slices for women and three for men

Why?

ApolloandDaphne · 13/02/2019 12:53

If it is just as a snack rather than a meal then i would do 10. Are they going to be delivered from somewhere like Dominos? I detest them and would eat literally one tiny slice to be polite. Maybe add some potato wedges or crisps/crudites and dip?

April241 · 13/02/2019 12:53

I'd aim for half a pizza each, leftover pizza is no bad thing Grin and defo all the vegi. Can I come?

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/02/2019 12:53

Because on average men eat more than women. No-one's saying that all men eat more than all women, but when you have mixed groups compared with all male or all female groups, there's a definite difference in the amount and type of food consumed, so it's an easy way to estimate quantities.

We serve buffets to visiting clients at work and the groups are nearly always at least 90% male. They generally don't touch the puddings, but eat just about all the savoury food. If there are more women in the group, there is always, without fail, fewer puddings, but more savoury food left.

Treat it like it's dinner. If I was invited to a pizza and cupcakes evening, I wouldn't have dinner at home and think most people would think the same as me.

I'd get 14/15 pizzas if I was you.

Passthecake30 · 13/02/2019 12:54

If I was going to a pizza and cupcakes party I'd only have a small snack before and save room for the pizza. I'd eat 4-5 slices out of a large 12 slices pizza. Will there be dips for the crusts? Wink

ApolloandDaphne · 13/02/2019 13:00

If there is something worse than Dominos pizza it is cold Dominos pizza. My stomach is heaving just thinking about it. And i am NOT a fussy eater.

My idea of evening snack heaven would be a huge amount of Indian starters (all the types of pakora!) plus popadoms, spiced onions and loads of dips.

babysharkah · 13/02/2019 13:04
  1. I wouldn't eat before a pizza and cupcake evening otherwise what's the point in having pizza, just have cupcakes!
MyDcAreMarvel · 13/02/2019 13:07

14 pizzas at least.

miltonroad · 13/02/2019 13:08

25 😉

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/02/2019 13:12

15 inch pizzas are massive and provide over 50% more area of pizza than the 12 inch ones I was imagining in my first post.

I therefore now think that 4-6 pizzas will be plenty, giving an average of about 2-3 slices each, but if you know what sort of crowd you are feeding, ie rugby players or inactive orthorexics, then you can tailor to suit.

wowfudge · 13/02/2019 13:13

Isn't margarita the most popular pizza in the UK? Make at least half of what your order veggie and I don't think you'll disappoint. The worst thing you can do is under cater.

BusterTheBulldog · 13/02/2019 13:13

Id go on half a pizza per person, another one who wouldn’t be eating much before as the pizza would be my dinner!

Can I come?! Can’t stop thinking about pizza now.

TimetohittheroadJack · 13/02/2019 13:13

Are you buying takeaway? Otherwise how are you going to hear 14 pizzas?

HappyPunky · 13/02/2019 13:16

25!! Unless you're doing garlic bread or doughballs. If you are I'd say 18.

TimetohittheroadJack · 13/02/2019 13:27

*heat not hear. Pizzas don’t have ears

chocolatebuttonsandcheese · 13/02/2019 13:29

I would say enough for one each... so 25! Nothing worse than a party with not enough good

chocolatebuttonsandcheese · 13/02/2019 13:30

Also you say you don't want it to be a meal... people won't eat before going to a 'pizza and cupcake party' so they will expect enough for a meal

viccat · 13/02/2019 13:34

At least 10, probably 15 would be better... If you are ordering take away, can you not get everyone a medium pizza and ask them which one they want? You can't really order them in advance anyway as they'll be cold...

IncrediblySadToo · 13/02/2019 13:34

If I had to pre order, I’d order 20. I’d rather have left overs than not enough. But if I was just ordering it from a pizza delivery company I’d order 12 then a top up if they were getting low.

OnTheFrow · 13/02/2019 13:35

I would aim to hopefully have as much left over pizza as possible so would probably order 24. Maybe 20 to not look like such a gannet.

PhilomenaButterfly · 13/02/2019 13:38

Yy Lemon.

PinkHeart5914 · 13/02/2019 13:40

I’d go with 3 slices per person, as you’ve got cupcakes too and your not looking to provide a full on meal just a little something.

Order a mix of meat & veggie pizza, as a lot of meat eaters like myself love veg pizza more than meat ones
