can You recommend a London hotel that’s a bit more of a treat than Premier Inn/Travelodge

My parents spent a lot on my brothers kids last Xmas and because they didn’t know what to get my two offered to pay for a family London Theatre trip. We already had one show booked this year but the on sale date for a show my kids (15 & 17) really want to see goes on sale soon.

We usually stay at Premier Inn or Travelodge for cheapness but my parents are prepared to go a bit more for us.

It needs to be tubable to Central London. Ds is autistic so won’t cope with a longer journey after a show.

What’s your budget, and what station will you come into?

Montague on the Gardens is a favourite for me.

Aloft at London Excel - DLR from Bank or tower hill. Seemed ok prices, decent rooms, gym and swimming pool.

Excel not bad area for price if no major events on. Also less crowded/ noisy than west/central. I also like canary wharf area but generally go with top secret deals if I am on my own

We will be travelling into Euston.

We usually stay Premier Inn South Kensington or Travelodge Southwark.

Last year we paid £300 for 3 nights at the Premier in February (family room) & £285 for 2 nights at the Travelodge in August. We will probably need a separate room for dd now though as she will be 18 by then.

We’ve stayed near Excel when visiting an event there and found the DLR fun but expensive to travel into central London each day (& takes too long after a show).

The hoxton hotel- one in shoreditch and one in Holborn

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 10/02/2019 15:45

I've stayed at the Raddison Blu on Tottenham Court Road which was an easy walk from Euston. It was lovely.

Comefromaway · 10/02/2019 15:45

Theatre is by Leicester Square tube.

I love the premier inn hub in Covent Garden

It's functional rather than spacious but ... right in Covent Garden. Fabulous.

Comefromaway · 10/02/2019 15:49

Hoxton looks nice but they’ve got no family rooms as far as I can see. We’d need 1 family room (2 adults 1 child) & 1 single room.

Same there for Premier Hub. Double rooms only. I’ve looked at them several times.

Also dh wouldn’t cope with their decor (Ménière’s disease)

Bedford Hotel [[https://www.imperialhotels.co.uk/en/book/search?search=46dd427d-104c-4787-b2cc-aecde90da749]] is really good and around your price range.

Really good location which feels safe, close to tube and walking distance to Covent Garden. Buffet breakfast is served in the restaurant that overlooks the garden area.

I’d definitely stay there again

WreckTangled · 10/02/2019 15:53

I like Fraser place Canary Wharf. It's a bit further out but easily commutable and is apartments rather than hotel rooms.

WreckTangled · 10/02/2019 15:53

Commutable should say doable Grin

MuttsNutts · 10/02/2019 15:53

Oops...messed up the link!

Bedford Hotel

I would avoid the Bedford, I found it quite grim and the breakfast was awful.

@HardAsSnails That’s a shame - it was good when we stayed and recent Trip Advisor reviews are good too.

theworldistoosmall · 10/02/2019 16:01

What about air bnb?

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 10/02/2019 16:01

No. 10 Manchester Street

Searcy rooftop rooms.

Both really lovely.

I love the Z hotels; bit of luxury on a budget for when you won’t be at the hotel too much. We paid £500 for 4 nights over August bank holiday and it was about 1 minute walk from Victoria station.

HankNPat · 10/02/2019 16:07

The Zetter, which is between Clerkenwell & Farringdon www.thezetter.com

If you look on their website, they also have one in Marylebone, which might be more convenient as Euston is your arrival/departure station.

I've only stayed in the one in Farringdon though (as a Londoner, it's rare to stay in a hotel in my own city!!)

Comefromaway · 10/02/2019 16:07

Radisson looks nice but website a bit clunky on the iPad. Will check prices and rooms properly when on pc.

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 10/02/2019 16:13

It looks like the Bedford only do single and double rooms anyway.

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 10/02/2019 16:21

No family rooms in the Zetter either. I think it’s acommon thing in London.
