can You recommend a London hotel that’s a bit more of a treat than Premier Inn/Travelodge

My parents spent a lot on my brothers kids last Xmas and because they didn’t know what to get my two offered to pay for a family London Theatre trip. We already had one show booked this year but the on sale date for a show my kids (15 & 17) really want to see goes on sale soon.

We usually stay at Premier Inn or Travelodge for cheapness but my parents are prepared to go a bit more for us.

It needs to be tubable to Central London. Ds is autistic so won’t cope with a longer journey after a show.

I know you are after something wow, but having stayed in numerous London hotels, in 'super' locations, if it was me (and I acknowledge i can be weird), i would book a Premier Inn and add in the luxury.
Buy a bottle of bubbly, take along some luxury bath bombs, pop into Hotel Chocolat en route.

I have to say, I am a huge fan of Premier Inns. Having stayed in so called luxury end if the hotel market in London, for most people, the room is a box room, the food is fine, blah, blah. I would rather put my own package together.
Outside of London is a different matter. There you can get a discernible difference in quality.
Disclaimer: anything over £200 per night is a rip off imo.

The Holiday inn Bloomsbury has some lovely rooms, not sure of the cost, i was upgraded😊

I like the Doubletree Hilton Tower of London. Nice hotel etc, but the location is fab for touristing. It's on the doorstep of the Shard, Borough Market, Southbank. It's my fav part of London and easy to get to other parts from.

Probably looking at nearly £200 pn, is that the right sort of ballpark money wise? You could spend megabucks if you wanted to...

Uncooperativefingers · 10/02/2019 16:23

Ah crosspost. I don't know if they do family rooms, sorry

I guess that’s the thing. You know what you are getting with Premier.

Dh and I liked the Park Grand hotel we stayed in but again no family rooms.

We stayed in the Bankside one and it was very nice, although I’m not sure they do family rooms 🤔

Comefromaway · 10/02/2019 16:37

The kids would share although dd really needs her privacy. But ds doesn’t sleep well whereas dd needs her sleep.

The Pullman at Kings Cross might be a good choice - they (and Novotel) do good family rooms and the commute from the station and to/from the theatre would work. Kings Cross/Granary Square is lovely now too.

Guoman Tower Hotel at Tower of London is one I use for work a lot. They have family rooms too. Easy from Central London, as I see a lot of shows when I'm there too.

If you do go, ask for a renovated room as the old one can be a bit dated.

i took my two sons to london a couple of weeks ago and we stayed at the crowne plaza in kensington. it’s literally across the road from a tube station. the breakfast was lovely and the rooms were very nice with big comfy beds. my kids loved it.

NotMyUsualTopBilling · 10/02/2019 17:07

Could you share a room with DD and DH share with DS to give you more choice?

We do this when we go away as my teen has Autism and doesn't cope well being confined with everyone else.

If you could I've booked us a London break staying in the Euston Square Hotel which is 5 minutes walk from train and tube stations. It's costing £360 for 3 nights in a double room.

sweetmarie · 10/02/2019 17:21

Following this, so hard to find! We've looked for the same thing and had no luck

Pieceofpurplesky · 10/02/2019 17:37

We stay at the Z Hotel in Piccadilly. Tiny rooms, v modern, clean and comfortable. DS thinks it is brilliant as very trendy. Also free cheese and wine between 5-7 Grin

DragonMamma · 10/02/2019 17:40

I love the Montcalm hotels. I usually stay at the City one, near Barbican.

Breakfast is lovely!

GinandGingerBeer · 10/02/2019 17:47

In the days when we needed a family room (which ime are hard to come by in central London) we used to stay at the Holiday Inn Mayfair. It's not a typical purpose built holiday inn, the bar is lovely and the breakfast is excellent. My kids used to love it there. Great location too, next to green park tube, an easy walk in if preferred, close to Buck palace one way, Bond Street if you go round the back and Piccadilly takes about 20 min on foot. Their rooms sleep 4, 2 large doubles.

wowfudge · 10/02/2019 17:54

The Doubletree by Hilton Kensington is good. Five mins walk from South Ken tube and the rooms and staff are great. Also in a great area for restaurants, cafés, etc.

QuestionableMouse · 10/02/2019 17:57

Just book two rooms in a premier Inn. They're usually clean and comfortable and you could use the extra cash for some treats.

DropZoneOne · 10/02/2019 18:03

Park Plaza - some of them have studios which have a sofa bed the other side of a divide

Amba Marble Arch or Charing Cross

ZenNudist · 10/02/2019 18:05

Following this for ideas. Got to nook london hotel for going to see Harry potter and the cursed child

Girlsnightin · 10/02/2019 18:16

Looking for 2 doubles will open up your options.

shartsi · 10/02/2019 18:18

Canary riverside plaza hotel in canary wharf

Comefromaway · 10/02/2019 20:39

Two twins could be an option but not two doubles.
