Everybody hurts-I can't listen to it without crying over my sister who killed herself 15 years ago.

Sierra259 · 12/02/2019 09:50

Fields of Gold - the Eva Cassidy version. It's just so hauntingly beautiful.

The Scientist by Coldplay reminds me of a difficult breakup

eniledam · 12/02/2019 10:23

Doubting Thomas by Nickelcreek.

It's such a sad, gentle song about losing faith. When I was younger, my dad would listen to this song whenever we were in the car and tell me how much he loved it. Now I don't have him anymore, it's hard to hear. Brings tears to my eyes every time at the memories.

VeryFoolishFay · 12/02/2019 10:36

Mine is a newer one - 'Where the lost things go' from the new Mary Poppins film, of all things.

It talks about never really losing things or people, they are just out of sight. I am in my 50's and haven't yet lost anyone really close to me and so perhaps I am preparing myself in some way. It is a song that just speaks to me because it says everything is somewhere, and I find that really comforting. Actually, I am tearing up, just thinking about it.

BlackInk · 12/02/2019 11:11

Fix You by Cold Play.

I'm not really a CP fan, but this song was out when I lost a baby mid-term after 7 years TTC. The tears I cried to this song...

outtheforest · 12/02/2019 11:39

Breathe me by sia - takes me back to a time when I was doing everything I could to punish myself for existing and makes me feel like that lost teenager again.
Black orchid - blue October for the same reason

OnTheFrow · 12/02/2019 11:51

Freya Ridings - lost without you.

A bit pathetic but I came on after dropping my DS at school for his first day and I could just relate so much. I wept and wept!

missmoz · 12/02/2019 12:15

Into My Arms - Nick Cave. Always.

morningconstitutional2017 · 12/02/2019 15:42

Everybody Hurts - REM. No particular reason, it's just a sad song which symbolises the difficulties that many of us must face and it's telling us to 'hold on.'
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin and
A Horse With No Name - America. These were two of my husband's favourite songs which we played at his funeral. Even the thought of them makes me cry.

HelmutFrontbut · 12/02/2019 16:05

Good Luck by Basement Jaxx. The line 'You'll always have a sneer in your smile' reminds me of the gaslighting from my cheating ex.

Tweedypie · 12/02/2019 18:23

The blowers daughter ..Damien Rice
and Dancing with my Father.
Weirdly Ain't no body by Chaka Khan gets me misty eyed as it reminds me of my first true love.

wanderings · 12/02/2019 18:34

The Cat Carol: the saddest Christmas song I have ever come across. Sad

It was our day by B*witched - a less well-known one.

@WorriedinWorcester Nothing to be ashamed of, re. Goodbye by the Spice Girls!

@VeryFoolishFay I love the song "where the lost things go"! It's not yet a tear jerker for me, but I expect it will be if I associate it with a particular person.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 13/02/2019 15:42

Doje I made a mixtape for my first love with this song on it. It is quite lovely. I included it because I wanted him to know that I loved him unconditionally and that he would always feel safe with me. And, that no matter what, I wanted him to be happy. I think that's what the song is about. At least, that's how I saw it. Smile

Doje · 13/02/2019 20:38

MissLanes I just googled the lyrics and it is definitely unconditional love kind of meaning.

DH wouldn't let me have it on our wedding day as our first dance song as he said I'd just cry through it. I would have too

SapphireSeptember · 13/02/2019 21:25

I'm remembered some more.

Still Standing by The Rasmus. Another one I listened to a lot when I was younger and dealing with depression. It made me think of my nan and that I hoped she was looking at for me.

The Islander by Nightwish. It makes me think of Captain Jim in Anne's House Of Dreams for some reason. I just blub a lot whenever I hear it.

Vermilion pt 2 by Slipknot, when I was at Sonisphere 2011 they had a moments' silence for Paul Gray and they played this. Thousands of people were there and you could have heard a pin drop. Makes me emotional even now.

😥

SapphireSeptember · 13/02/2019 21:25

I've ffs!

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 13/02/2019 21:34

Many already mentioned, also -

Please Remember - Leanne Times
Batman, superman, Spider-Man - Rod Stewart
Through the Barricades - Spandau Ballet

MsTSwift · 13/02/2019 21:43

My sisters lovely dh lost his father before they met - he died when he and siblings were teenagers. They played Annie’s song by Jon Denver as their first dance at their wedding - bils sister mother and brother immediately all burst into tears at the same time as this was his favourite song. Always think of that moment when I hear that one

MrsJDornan · 13/02/2019 21:46

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love, it was playing when my Nan passed away, still try to avoid listening to it

Nathan Sykes - Over and over again, was a song my partner used to play to me, bittersweet now as he passed away 2 years ago

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 13/02/2019 21:50

Oh god, loads. Tbh give me the right moment and almost any song can make me cry Hmm but these are the ones that I quite often have to turn off when I hear them for fear of embarrassing myself.

Stacks - Bon Iver
Into My Arms - Nick Cave
Songbird - the Fleetwood Mac version, played at my mum's funeral
Bridge Over Troubled Water
Coming Around Again - Carly Simon
This Woman's Work and, sometimes, Army Dreamers

CallMeSirShotsFired · 13/02/2019 21:50

I used to sing it with my now-ex when we were doing the dishes (weird I know, but it always seemed to come on the radio then!).

Now it hurts and the words are like an extra kick in the guts.

ILOVEALLCAKES · 13/02/2019 21:53

Jamie Lawson's 'Wasn't expecting that' The story behind the lyrics is so moving.

Pinkkahori · 13/02/2019 21:56

My dds have a Taylor Swift album they love to play in the car but i always have to skip one song.
I think it's called Never Grow Up and it's about a mother wishing her child could stay young because things are simple then.
It just kills me since my dad died because I remember being little and never imagining that could happen or knowing life can be so hard.

lastqueenofscotland · 13/02/2019 21:57

The entire of the Menzingers After the Party album can make me weep. I’ve no idea why, it’s a fairly upbeat punk record Confused

You could be happy by snow patrol

Young love by the mystery jets

Let you down - NF

Broken Oars - Nieves

UbbesPonytail · 13/02/2019 21:57

God Only Knows. I’d always loved it but it came on the radio when I got in the car after my sister was rushed to a and e and then critical care. It was about 1am and we were all leaving the hospital. She never regained consciousness and now whenever I hear it (and can’t turn it off) I cry instantly. I knew as soon as I heard it that day that she wasn’t going to wake up.
