What song makes you cry?
Mine is Ray Charles "If I could" I lost my Dad in 2016 and it makes me think of him.

I can’t listen to a few since I lost my Mum - ‘everything I own’, ‘How to save a life’ by the Fray and Christina Aguleira’s (sp?) ‘Hurt’. I missed the chance to get her help that could have prevented her death, and my words to her weren’t very kind and it haunts me every day that I never got the chance to say sorry or even goodbye Sad.

Also, Crowded House ‘Don’t Dream it’s over, and Shadowlands from the Lion King, as I chose those for her funeral.

She wasn’t the easiest person in the world ( to put it mildly!) and I feel like I spent my whole life trying to save her from herself only to fall at the last hurdle. But I miss her so much, and my life will never be the same without her. If only we could go back in time Sad.

I had the misfortune to hear Ariana Grande on the radio the other day. My God but she can't sing. Tears of rage and a swift punch in the direction of the off button ensued.

EverybodyKeepCool · 11/02/2019 12:36

Wherever you will go by The Calling. Played at my brother's funeral and makes me cry every time I hear it. It always seems to be played in the most unexpected places at the most unexpected times.

Yogagirl123 · 11/02/2019 12:38

Mike & The Mechanics - In the living years, gets me every time.

Walnutwhipster · 11/02/2019 13:53

@Yogagirl123. I literally lived the lyrics of this song in 2003. It still stops me in my tracks.

Westlife- You Raise Me Up. Played at my Mums funeral. Makes me think of her especially the chorus.

And Oasis- Little James. Makes me properly cry.

TheBubGrower · 11/02/2019 14:10

Tears in heaven - it was sung at a memorial for my favourite teacher who died suddenly during my A level exams.

Wonderful by everclear - it's about divorce from a child's point of view and it reminds me of my parent's divorce.

Wires by athlete- makes me think of when my niece and nephew were in NICU after being born prem by 3 months.

Blompitude · 11/02/2019 14:14

Perfect Day - Lou Reed. I don't know why it makes me cry.
Marie - Townes Van Zandt. Not advised if you are already depressed.

DoingMyBest2010 · 11/02/2019 14:23

Chariots of Fire by Vangelis. My dad was a runner and we played it at his funeral, he died very very unexpectedly.

ohmywhattodo · 11/02/2019 17:28

One by Oli murs that I kept hearing after I’d had my first mmc.

Super Trouper by ABBA - played at my sisters funeral as her coffin came out of the church. It was one of the first songs that I remember her listening to as a little kid and seemed to resonate with me as we lost her to many years of mental illness. “Tonight the super trouper, lights are gunna find me, shining like the sun, smiling having fun, feeling like the number one..”

Ffsnosexallowed · 11/02/2019 17:30

Sunshine on Leith, played at the funerals of 2 of my most favourite people in the world who both died far too young.

Dinsey70 · 11/02/2019 17:36

Time to Say Goodbye - Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.

It's kind of a family funeral song.

Ironmanrocks · 11/02/2019 17:49

In the Ghetto - Elvis, I think

Camouflage - Stan Ridgeway

Up the Junction - Squeeze

Old Friend - Tom Robinson

Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufjan Stevens (about a girl who dies of cancer)

I have a wide love of music....

Furrycushion · 11/02/2019 18:01

Nothing compares to you - it's so raw & heartfelt & exactly how I felt at the time.
With or without you - same time of heartbreak.
Reader, I married him in the end. Things can work out but the songs transport me back.

BrizzleMint · 11/02/2019 18:21

Everybody Hurts, REM
Don't give up - Peter Gabriel

BrizzleMint · 11/02/2019 18:22

and Dancing with tears in my eyes because of a close relative who died.

Tanikay · 11/02/2019 19:22

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
Angel - Sarah Maclachlan

Cookit · 11/02/2019 19:46

@MissLanesAmericanCousin

Yes most of mine would be by Tori Amos too. Playboy Mommy also.

GertrudeCB · 11/02/2019 19:51

The Drugs Don't Work by The Verve.
My Aunt who was more like a grandmother to me had an aggressive form of dementia and this came on the radio after I visited her - I howled then and can't listen to it now without sobbing.

TakenForSlanted · 11/02/2019 19:51

Because of You by Kelly Clarkson.

It's not even my style but the lyrics simply say everything I've always wanted to tell my arsehole dad but haven't been able to.

Frustratedandalone · 11/02/2019 20:13

Sunshine on leith by the proclaimers.

Dream by the everly brothers. Used to sing it with my granny in her kitchen making soup on a Sunday afternoon.

There’s also an obscure version of amazing grace played by a piper band that we played at her funeral that I can never bring myself to listen to.

bevelino · 11/02/2019 20:21

Stay by Shakespeare Sisters
I can’t live if living is without you (Without You) by Harry Nilsson

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 11/02/2019 22:34

Most things.

Definitely Slipping Through My Fingers - 4th child and I (she's 15) are working on our wonderful adventures before it's too late. Marrakech next week. I cry at everything. Wept my way through Mamma Mia, let alone the sequel.

Jim Croce Time in a Bottle and Gary Moore Nothing's the Same Without You. I'm a sucker for a sad song.

WorriedinWorcester · 12/02/2019 02:34

This woman’s work - Kate Bush
How to save a life - The Fray
Time of your life - Greenday
Goodbye - The Spice Girls (I know, I know...)
Clementine - The Decemberists

coppercolouredtop · 12/02/2019 02:39
