Are you stockpiling for brexit?

I am, chest freezer is full and my kitchen is overflowing with dry food.

Seeing as how the shops were empty last year with two days of snow a best case scenario will be a few weeks of shortages. Or am I crazy?

Yes, only with food we’d normally eat though, I don’t have stacks of spam and lentils.

I hope everything will be fine, in which case I won’t have to shop much for a few weeks. If it’s not fine then we’ve got everything we will need.

Yes, currently stuck at home with a vicious chest infection though, so am actually using some of it until I feel well enough to get out to the shop again.

Yes, have been steadily building up since the Summer. I hope it won't be needed, but I have absolutely no confidence in the completely incompetent government and opposition.

I've been bringing forward ordering my prescription medications by 2 days a month for the last 6 months. So order now going in two weeks before I run out, rather than just in time. Still makes me nervous.

Ah good it's not just me, I'm slowly building it up.

Lots of lentils but I do like them. And even a diet of lentils for a year is better than what the people of Venezuela have :(

Yes & only food we will actually eat, no lentils or kidney beans!

Stocked up on my contraceptive pill too as my usual brand prescription couldn’t be filled as all suppliers to the 3 chemists I tried had issues but found 6 months worth at Superdrug. According to the pharmacist down to Brexit but no idea if he was just having a rant?

Yes I’m now a very lightweight prepper.

Well all came down with flu a short while back. All of us on our arses for at least a week. Having a stockpile made life considerably easier whilst we weren’t well.

I’m prepping for Brexit but I’m now planning to have well stocked cupboards just in case of any eventuality (illness, weather disruption, politicians fucking up everything etc etc)

I've got a single cupboard full of dried pasta, tinned stuff etc but nothing really that I wouldn't have available at this time of the year anyway. I live in a completely central, bog standard northern city but people round here get a bit skittish if there is more than a quarter inch of snow and everything goes to pot and they clear the shelves for some reason. So I always have my small cupboard of tins and stuff for if there is an inch of snow and all the locals start abandoning cars and deliveries are suspended for two days. 😁 I could happily survive for at least a month without having to resort to cannibalism.

I might throw in a couple of Fray Bentos pies on my next shop.... no disaster contingent is complete without a Fray Bentos pie....

Yes, I've got rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes, kidney beans, baked beans and olive oil. Oh and wine. Grin

It'll all get used anyway and hopefully any disruption won't be for too long. I figured the prices will go up whatever happens.

No but I went through my kitchen cupboards today and found I had enough food to last for months. I'm just a horder.

I think I'd rather stick to my lentils than a pie. I've got lots of camping gas but might buy some tinned puddings thinking about it.

I'd struggle without my instant pot of electric went down.

Yes, -‘a bit- we needed a new chest freezer and just got a bigger one.

It’s full - so if a few shortages or a price spike, we’re ok, main things we are stocking up on are imported foods so pasta, good tinned tomatoes, big bags of bastmati rice, chapati and rice flour etc. Again, more about a price spike and a short term (I hope) lack of supply.

Also generic meds (I think Italy is big supplier of this).

No and I’m not sure I agree we should be stockpiling!! I know , I know , we ll have someone a long in a moment telling all the doom and gloom stuff but if everyone starts stockpiling now then it will all start to run dry now!! Let alone brexit !!

It’s the same with snow, bad weather, change of government ...... it’s all doom and gloom led.... usually by government sources!!! I’m a cynic... the government want you to believe you need to stockpile because they don’t want the economy crashing in meantime if everyone stockpiles, withdraws their monies from banks, doesn’t book a holiday etc then it all crashes ...

I have two cupboards FULL of booze and as I don't drink very often, I'm hoping I'll be able to trade it for food Grin

I did start stockpiling but then joined the 'no spend 19' thread and have been gradually using up my food supplies over the last 5/6 weeks to save money.

Storage is a bit of an issue so maybe I should rethink my plan and drink the booze to make room to store food Confused

TheCrown, have your supermarket shelves been empty? Because people have been prepping for this for some months now. I haven't noticed a resulting shortage.

Yes but I generally stockpile anyway as we can often be cut off for a week or so if it snows (very rural).

I've just been a bit more mindful about stocking tomato based products (ketchup etc) and having a bit more milk and bread in the deep freeze than I would usually.

Yes, I have spent about £200 on long life food, toiletries, cleaning products etc. So I probably have two or three extra of everything we use frequently. I have bought very little that I wouldn't normally buy (I did throw in a couple of tins of potatoes and some bread mix, but no Spam, tinned pies or anything like that!Grin).
I think we'd be okay for three or even four weeks if I can get a bit of fresh fruit and veg. Unfortunately I don't have a big freezer.
Hopefully we won't need it, but I feel much better knowing it's there, not to mention grateful that I have spare money and storage space to allow me to protect my family in this way.
And if we don't end up needing it, think of all the cash and time I'll save on grocery shopping over the summer, because it's all already bought!
