Are you stockpiling for brexit?

I am, chest freezer is full and my kitchen is overflowing with dry food.

Seeing as how the shops were empty last year with two days of snow a best case scenario will be a few weeks of shortages. Or am I crazy?

Yes
because if it goes pear shaped I'd like to leave the shops to those without resources
and if it does not then I've bought my spring food a few weeks early
no great shakes either way

bababoom100 · 09/02/2019 20:44

The only thing I've considered stockpiling recently is baby milk but haven't started yet. That's the only essential i would need. In terms of other food as long as I don't starve im not bothered if there are some things I can't get for a while.

GottenGottenGotten · 09/02/2019 20:46

That's not the reason it's not an issue, TheCrown.

The reason the shelves aren't empty is that people have been buying a bit extra every week for a long time. It doesn't affect the stock levels because supermarkets are VERY responsive to variations in sales and can resupply accordingly.

Stockpiling a bit a week over a long period of time will reduce potential problems after Brexit, not cause problems, as it will reduce the load at a time where there is the potential for delays in getting things to the shelves - which if it does happen could result in the people that haven't got a full stockcupboard panic buying - and that's what causes the real problems.

Yes. So far loo roll, coffee, my favourite tea, muesli, tinned tomatoes, tuna, beans, custard, pasta, rice, frozen blueberries and peas. Also wood and coal.

Thecrown3 · 09/02/2019 20:54

I just think it’s a bit “millennium bug”
I’m happy to be proved wrong in April Grin

TheCrown
If you think Brexit has even the slightest comparison to the Millennium Bug
I'll see you in April to sell you food

Jackshouse · 09/02/2019 21:01

Thecrown3 I hope it is all millennium bug but they also had people working on this issue for longer than we have had people working on Brexit.

Yes I have a few weeks worth of stuff stockpiled. DD has allergies so it’s a bit tricker if we have limited choice. I have got lentils and kidney beans but we normally eat them.

ooooohbetty · 09/02/2019 21:03

No

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 09/02/2019 21:04

I have enough to last for months anyway, the cupboard and freezer is always rammed and overflowstuff goes in the spare room. DH feels uneasy if there isn’t a lot of stuff even though Asda is just down the road

ChoudeBruxelles · 09/02/2019 21:07

Yes. Have a huge bag of rice, pasta, lots of tinned tomatoes, beans, soup, bread flour and have started to buy things to freeze too.

It’s fresh fruit and veg I think will be hard to get though

TheWomanin12B · 09/02/2019 21:10

Millennium Bug Brexit Bingo ✅

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 09/02/2019 21:17

We have 90 toilet rolls from Amazon as the ones we like have been discontinued in the shops, I am considering buying another couple of packs of 45 in case Amazon stop selling them also, so should be OK there if there is a toilet roll shortage.

Only worth buying stuff you usually use though and getting it when it’s on offer to save a bit of money at the same time.

GottenGottenGotten · 09/02/2019 21:26

You want to be proved wrong, TheCrown? Crikey, I hope you are proved right, and it's not an issue at all!

Fluffyears · 09/02/2019 21:29

Yes and i’mbooking Two weeks off work so I can sit on my pile of tins and defend it with a pitchfork! Touch my food, feel my fork!

Ivegotthree · 09/02/2019 21:30

No

BasiliskStare · 09/02/2019 21:32

No

Believability · 09/02/2019 21:34

No because quite frankly I don’t believe that we are going to starve

flameycakes · 09/02/2019 21:36

I always have extras of everything, just invested in a new breadmaker as my last one gave up the ghost months back, I've already got a dehydrator and have been dehydrating fruit, veggies and lots of mushrooms, going to do a 2nd attempt at fruit leather this week x

VanGoghsDog · 09/02/2019 21:37

Yes, low key but I'm intending to have an extra month I'd so if food. I already have about a month worth, which I always do, and was useful in the snow last year and when I had flu and pneumonia this time last year.

I live in a village and the Coop was empty during the snow.
I hope it doesn't happen but I think prices will rise, if only short term.

Nope

bellinisurge · 09/02/2019 21:43

Slow and steady over several months. Because with this shitshow the only person I trust to feed my family the way I want to feed them, with food I like to eat is me.

Jtj2s · 09/02/2019 21:43

I always have a couple of months food in the house so it's business as normal, but Ive stocked up on animal feed.

chipstickgirl · 09/02/2019 21:44

I honestly can't believe people are doing this - genuinely shocked.
