How much did you pay for your glasses?

DP is moaning, went to Specsavers yesterday and ordered a pair of French connection glasses and a pair of sunglasses with anti glare coating on glasses as I do a lot of driving in the dark, totalling £129. He thinks £65 a pair is unreasonable! To shut him up can you all post how much you recently paid for glasses if you don't get a voucher? 😊

That's a really good price, just remind him they'll probably last at least 2 years if you look after them so if you work it out as a monthly price it's not much really.

HettieBettie · 09/02/2019 16:42

£400 last time with anti glare and thinning from
Boots pair of ray bans

NotMyUsualTopBilling · 09/02/2019 16:43

I paid £109 for a standard pair last week, the frames were £89 and i need second level thinning as my prescription is strong which cost an extra £20.

On the note of thinning, I discovered last week that Specsavers offer £45 off thinning on their £69+ range of you skip the 2 for 1 offer. They don't advertise this very well because it makes it atleast £20 cheaper to buy them separately!

Mine were in the region of £200, can’t quite remember. Rayban ones with anti glare. I did get a free pair but that was incidental, if that makes sense. My sunglasses were another £100ish.

When I started having to wear my glasses everyday, I decided that I would always spend as much as I can afford to. They’re on my face all the time, so I want something I really like rather than something that’ll just do! The cost per ‘wear’ is minimal.

Tink1990 · 09/02/2019 16:43

I think we have the same glasses Grin pretty good value i think!

Tentomidnight · 09/02/2019 16:44

£340 a couple of years ago.

Sirzy · 09/02/2019 16:44

I normally pay about £150 (but do bogof) I wear them all the time so I need them to be comfy and look right. When I wasn’t wearing them all the time I didn’t care as much

Sleepyquest · 09/02/2019 16:46

£240 last time for 1 pair (Dior), £220 this time for 2 pairs (slightly less designer)

My argument is that I wear them all day long, every day. They are on my face so everyone sees them. They have to look good at all times. Nice glasses make me feel more confident. Lastly, but most importantly they help me to see.

So when you think of it like that, they aren't expensive at all SmileGrin

purpleleotard · 09/02/2019 16:47

£400
a complex prescription, a good frame, good quality lenses and professional optician doing the measurements.

BringOnTheScience · 09/02/2019 16:51

I expect to pay £300-400 for varifocals, ultrathin, with a 'free' (ha!) tinted pair for driving, plus work will pay for the computer-use-only pair.

Laiste · 09/02/2019 16:52

£360.
Versace frame, reputable optician (hospital recommended), anti glare, complicated prescription.

thebabessavedme · 09/02/2019 16:56

thats cheap cheap cheap - my last pair prada, thin, anti fucking everything nearly £500 my dh would be delighted at such a cheap date! Grin

TheVonTrappFamilySwingers · 09/02/2019 16:59

Gosh yes somewhere close to £370 least time. Admit they're gucci frames but they really were the only ones that suited, however my lenses were ultra thin anti glare etc etc. Yours are a bargain!

Megsheeran · 09/02/2019 17:02

I am very poor - £45 Inc thin lenses and anti glare coating from Glasses Direct - took several boxes of "home try ons" but very happy and as work will refund up to £50 they are effectively free.

Yours sound a bargain for FC frames.

HenweeArcher · 09/02/2019 17:03

DH picked up two pairs today for £70 at Specsavers. Both pairs too cheap for the 2 for 1 offer!! They were the ones that suited him best that weren’t what he considered to be extortionate (£150ish).

I usually spend more like £90-£130 for two pairs.

FruitCider · 09/02/2019 17:03

Thanks everyone! I'm "only" approx -2.5 -0.5 and -2.0 -0.5 astigmatism so don't need thin lenses, varifocals etc but I find i see double of everything with a blurry haze without glasses on so I literally wear them all day every day. Glasses separately would have been £119 for glasses and £99 for sunglasses for I thought it was very cheap! Seems I was right 😉

I have a complex prescription, need ultra thin lenses & need two pairs of varifocals, one for everyday use, the other for screen use at work. I paid €450 for one pair & €300 for the other.

MrsCollinssettled · 09/02/2019 17:05

Cheapest available frames, varifocal, tinted, thinned complex prescription = £340. Do get government help though due to level of shortsightedness - just shy of £40 so glasses should have been about £380.

zebakrheum · 09/02/2019 17:08

I've got about 6 different pairs of reading glasses, all from Primark and about £3 each. They do the job a treat.

Accountant222 · 09/02/2019 17:09

Specsavers approx £475 for two pairs varifocals

Chocolatecheeks111 · 09/02/2019 17:11

I paid £45.00 all in glasses from Asda and I am very happy with them!

My eye sight gets worse every year so I really do not feel the need to splash the cash as to speak! I also where contact lenses most days.

Nothingoriginalhere · 09/02/2019 17:17

£450 one pair, varifocal, thinned, anti glare lenses. Designer frames. Worn about 10 mins per day - last thing at night and first thing in the morning as I wear contacts every day, all day.
Never ever begrudge no e.g. spent on glasses. They are needed - if inhave a problem with my contacts I would.wear them all day.

Nothingoriginalhere · 09/02/2019 17:17

*money

FadedRed · 09/02/2019 17:19

£700. Three quarters of that being on the lenses. Complex prescription. Specialist optician. Thank goodness I can afford them or my life would be very difficult.

Lungelady · 09/02/2019 17:19

About £400 for one pair of varifocals
