How much did you pay for your glasses?

DP is moaning, went to Specsavers yesterday and ordered a pair of French connection glasses and a pair of sunglasses with anti glare coating on glasses as I do a lot of driving in the dark, totalling £129. He thinks £65 a pair is unreasonable! To shut him up can you all post how much you recently paid for glasses if you don't get a voucher? 😊

OP posts:

£350

£65 would be fabulous!

My last specsavers twofers were more like £360. Sodding varifocals. I miss the days when they were, relatively, dirt cheap.

£129 is about a pound a week. A pound a week for something you wear daily, often all day, and which vastly improves your quality of life, even if the prescription is fairly low.

bryjam can I ask if the polarization is good, what does it do for you?

Also, sorry to merail for a sec.
Does anyone have the prescription lens sunglasses that change in different light? I was thinking about getting some, are they any good?

theoldtrout01876 · 09/02/2019 20:23

Im sitting here in a pair of $1300 glasses. just under 1/2 was the lenses though. My Ds1 is an optician and that was with his discount. They are nice though and as I have to wear em every day I wanted something nice.

SilverySurfer · 09/02/2019 20:26

Mine are varifrocals and I paid £69 at Specsavers.

applecatchers36 · 09/02/2019 20:29

Mine were £200 approx but on a 241 offer so not bad for two glasses, designer ones at Specsavers

NameChanger22 · 09/02/2019 20:31

The most I've ever paid is £3. I have a few pairs ranging from 50p to £3.

Sinead100 · 09/02/2019 20:31

That's a bargain OP. I was quoted £535 by an independent opticians but managed to get the same online for £240.

Gilead · 09/02/2019 20:33

102 quid. Varifocals, anti reflection, scratch resistant. Last week.

GreenTulips · 09/02/2019 20:33

£15 online better than the £100 ones from the opticians

BayandBlonde · 09/02/2019 20:37

I had my eyes tested last week, they wanted £250 for frame, £200 for ultra thin lenses because I'm a blind bat apparently, and God's knows what else. They would have come to about 500 quid!!!!

Given I wear contact lenses i got a cheap prescription pair for £10 online. Yes they will have lenses like the bottom of milk bottles but no one will see Smile

BibbityBobbityEars · 09/02/2019 20:37

Approx £350. £130 on the frames, the rest on the lenses. I’m very shortsighted and have bad astigmatism.

OrcinusOrca · 09/02/2019 20:39

I paid £170 and that was half price at Boots! LK Bennett's, love them Smile

PaddingtonMare · 09/02/2019 20:40

£240 for Tom Ford glasses and balenciaga prescription sunglasses. It make it easier to wear them if you love them. Last pair lasted me two years.

Faultymain5 · 09/02/2019 20:49

Too bloody much. Specsavers £219 anti glare two classes

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 09/02/2019 20:51

Complex varifocals, with magnetic sunglasses - £340. But I get a free eye test as the prescription is complex and an NHS voucher of around £86, so should have been £456. That was with a small independent optician.

PeachesandPie · 09/02/2019 20:51

Over £400 for glasses frame and lenses, and replacement lenses for my sunglasses. I got £80 off the frame as I pay for contacts monthly. If my prescription changes again this year i won't be able to afford to replace them.

Bryjam · 09/02/2019 20:53

It's fabulous. I absolutely love it. When the winter sun hits the road and the glare blinds you the glasses actually take most of it away and make it visable. Specsavers have an example lens you can check out (I assume all branches will have it) and I am not kidding it does what it says on the tin.

Kedgeree · 09/02/2019 20:55

Complex prescription so my latest specs which will be delivered next week are around £700 - frames and lenses. My prescription sunnies were £600 (bespoke colour tint to match the frame). A reglaze in my old frames usually costs around £400. In the past 12 months I will have spent around £1800 on specs and sunnies, £1000 on surgery and follow-up (necessary not cosmetic) plus £180 on sports eyewear /goggles with prescription insert. I spend £20 per month on eyedrops.

I have also spent £400 on a large screen "eyecare" monitor for my laptop.

I try to think of it in terms of cost per wear Wink.

Ironfloor269 · 09/02/2019 20:58

£70 each for two pairs with all the jazz - anti glare, thinnest lenses, anti scratch.

OpalIridescence · 09/02/2019 20:58

Thank you bryjam, sounds good I may give that a go.

GreenTulips · 09/02/2019 21:09

£15 online better than the £100 ones from the opticians

80sMum · 09/02/2019 21:17

Mine were just under £800.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 09/02/2019 21:31

£483 a couple of weeks ago. Varifocals, thin lenses, anti glare, complex prescription. Not transition lenses, but they have an ultra light mirror sunglass magnetic bit that goes over them so don’t need another pair of sunglasses. Frames are made by Eco.
