I know mistakes happen, but surely to god cashiers in shops are used to seeing security tags on items!

No, they are doing a shit boring job that pays fuck all. They’re also human and mistakes happen.

TrickyD · 09/02/2019 18:37

We got home from Tesco with a bottle of some expensive booze with its tag still on. Guard hadn't noticed. Despite ferociously wangling the tag, we couldn't get it off so rang the shop, was told to bring it back and they would remove it. I told them it was their fault and if we had to drive there and back I expected the cost to be refunded. They agreed. I didn't make a complaint though. A mistake which was fairly rectified.

Weezol · 09/02/2019 18:43

& no, it wasn’t today ( yesterday evening, but I’m still annoyed about it )

Perhaps think about trying mindfulness or yoga.

GiantKitten · 09/02/2019 18:45

Do security tags ever still have that dye inside or did they stop that?

Bryjam · 09/02/2019 19:17

Ffs, OP has agreed she was being unreasonable

Where?

HoraceCope · 09/02/2019 19:20

HoraceCope · 09/02/2019 19:21

my coat or bag or something seems to set up alarms,
does this happen to anyone else?

really odd, never been stopped though > Wink

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 09/02/2019 19:33

I expect that you never make a mistake.

ooooohbetty · 09/02/2019 19:41

No I wouldn't complain. It's just a mistake. It's happened to me a few times. I haven't stolen anything so I don't care.

Sammysquiz · 09/02/2019 20:14

Bryjam the OP said “I’ll accept I am being unreasonable. Thanks for your feedback” about 3 pages back.

CheerioHunter · 09/02/2019 20:18

Wouldn't even think to complain. I would expect they'd say sorry though, that's just polite in the situation.

oldsewandsew · 09/02/2019 20:20

I used to work in a shop where 1) the security tag deactivators rarely worked, and 2)the checkout staff were not told if or where tags might be on particular items, and the shop floor staff regular changed the locations anyway.
The number of times I was shouted at by a customer when the alarm went off was actually unbelievable! I was sworn at, called an idiot and waste of space, and had beefy men shouting in my face!
I get that it is annoying, but having been on the receiving end of that behaviour so regularly for a minor annoyance, I would never complain unless the staff were heavy handed or accusatory in checking me out.

E20mom · 09/02/2019 20:21

No I wouldn't. It's just a mistake

Norma27 · 09/02/2019 20:39

Sammy she said I am being unreasonable in a way that showed they did not actually mean that. Op you are an arse. I really wonder what you will do when you have a real fucking thing to complain about,

Notapeopleperson · 09/02/2019 20:56

At least the beeper went off. I once bought a coat for DS and neither me nor the cashier noticed the security tag, I put the coat away when I got home as it was the next size up so he didn't need it for a few months (was in the sale hence buying it earlier than needed). When I finally got it back out I noticed the tag, safe to say receipt was long gone.

I couldn't get to the store and needed the coat for the next day (had already binned his tatty old one) so ended up getting DPs tools out and tried cutting it off. It took fucking ages and there's a tiny fray now where the tag was, thankfully not noticiable and not caused any issues with material coming away but it was highly irritating. I always check clothes for security tags now.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 10/02/2019 13:15

“she'll be thinking it's not her job to voluntarily return to the till”

So she would rather go home with a security tag attached? That’s just cutting off your nose to spite your face!

As PP have said... NORMAL response to the beeper going off is to reverse, see if it was your bag doing it and turn round looking for a member of staff to check your bag - of course that only applies to the large majority of people who would never dream of thieving. TBH if I heard a beeper and saw someone head down and rapidly leaving I’d probably assume they had something they’d not paid for....

RedRedBluee · 10/02/2019 14:26

No it’s just a mistake and happens really easily.
The cashier may have been new and not known where all the tags went and where to check or which items had hidden tags.
Many times when I worked in retail I accidentally left tags on because someone had placed one where it wasn’t supposed to be and I didn’t notice, or put on two tags when it was an item which only required one.

RomanyQueen1 · 10/02/2019 14:31

No, it was a mistake. You haven't stollen anything, so nothing to worry about.
I've been stopped when the bleeper was playing up and all the security tags had been removed.
It's just one of those things.

RedRedBluee · 10/02/2019 14:31

And I’m sure you wouldnt have wanted the queue held up by spending extra time searching every inch of an item for rogue tags either.

Foxyscarf · 10/02/2019 14:33

Be more observant in future; if you expect the cashier to be infallible then you should be too.

Karwomannghia · 10/02/2019 14:33

I’d be embarrassed but wouldn’t complain. I’m sure they apologised?

sparklefarts · 10/02/2019 14:41

Hahah no absolutely not. I would be mildly embarrassed yes but it would not cross my mind to actually complain about that and OP I think maybe you need to look at the stress in your life if that wound you up that much?
