I know mistakes happen, but surely to god cashiers in shops are used to seeing security tags on items!

What a pathetic person you must be to take time out of your day to complain about something this trivial.... and then to post about it on Mumsnet!! Were you hoping we would all agree with your decision?? I can guarantee you the manager or supervisor of the poor cashier that had to serve you, did not reprimand her for such an honest mistake. That complaint would have gone straight in the bin where it belongs. They probably both laughed about it and took pity on your sad attitude. there are far more important things going on in this world. Get a life

Jtj2s · 09/02/2019 15:03

No unless its happening every time you go shopping its ridiculous petty to complain for a one off accident.

glamorousgrandmother · 09/02/2019 15:05

Sometimes I'm passing through the exit with several other people and the alarm goes off. Everyone stops, laughs and looks in their bags. The only person who would be embarrassed by this would be an actual shop lifter.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 09/02/2019 15:07

What if you keep hold of your receipt until you left the shop and we’re away like you’re meant to

What do you do if you don't get given a receipt - it is happening more and more frequently now. And then the security guard comes chasing after you. And the only way for them to check you paid for it is to check the CCTV or audit roll of the till.

I do think cashiers need to make sure they've removed security tags - it is usually only a minor inconvenience, but it could be an extremely unpleasant experience.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 09/02/2019 15:07

By the way this is chat not AIBU so why are people being so nasty in their replies?

Redglitter · 09/02/2019 15:14

I take it you never make any mistakes at your work OP

Your posts on this thread and your massive over reaction are be more embarrassing to you than what happened last night

MamaLovesMango · 09/02/2019 16:11

What do you do if you don't get given a receipt

I’ve never encountered a supermarket to do this. Some shops (clothes shops/shops that sell electrical items) take an email address to send the receipt to but not supermarkets which I am assuming it is because OP was packing her own bags. I’ve always been asked if I want a receipt.

In any case, if you didn’t have the receipt, a quick trip to the cashier with the security guard and asking if the shopper paid for this item would solve it in no time. Failing that, CCTV. It’s really not difficult to take some of responsibility for the items you buy though is it?

People aren't being nasty.

The only nasty comment was around hoping people got sacked if the apology wasn't profuse enough.

peppotpillow · 09/02/2019 16:25

This has happened to be twice, same supermarket. Except the alarm never went off and I found the security tags once home and wanting to wear the clothes Confused
Not fun taking them back to ask for tags removed even with a receipt
That being said the tags are easy to miss and I'd just accept it as an inconvenience and move on.

ComeMonday · 09/02/2019 16:26

Welcome to Mumsnet OP. You’re not by chance an unemployed woman with no children who wants to spend all day going on walks and do no housework are you?

lljkk · 09/02/2019 16:30

DH did this but had no receipt (!) Had gone self check-out where receipts not issued. Bottle of spirits. Luckily small town so a staff member (knew us from primary school) vouched for him. I can understand it's not a desirable experience.

Bluntness100 · 09/02/2019 16:35

Gosh you complained over an error and you're still annoyed about it and thinking of all the bad things that could have happened but didn't? Are you ok? This is a bit of an extreme reaction,

I had it happen to me, except it didn't bleep as I left the store, drove an hour home, tried thr trousers on and realised the tag was still on it. Except this time it did bleep when I went it, and yes I was taken aside by security and yes I had to explain and yes show my receipt.

I then went to thr concession, it was in house of Fraser, the staff immediately apologised when I explained. Was I annoyed, yes marginally at the time. Was I embarrassed she security pulled me and people stared, yup a bit. Did I raise a complaint, no of course not, it was hardly done on purpose. Simply someone made a mistake.

explodingkitten · 09/02/2019 16:40

Happened to me a couple of times (once ever 5 years or so). It was never a problem and I don't see why it would be embarressing. People really aren't that interested in you.

JacquesHammer · 09/02/2019 17:11

It was extremely embarrassing

Oh don’t be so ridiculous.

It was such a non-event. Still, I’m sure you enjoyed your petty complaint.

Purpleartichoke · 09/02/2019 17:29

What is there to complain about. The store is already aware the cashier made a mistake. Are you hoping she is fired? Wanting some sort of compensation? What is your end goal?

Norma27 · 09/02/2019 17:42

I love thinking of ‘what ifs’ op.
Your scenario is slightly shit tho when ours is what if my stepdad had crossed the road 30 seconds later. What if that driver had seen him crossing the road.
What if he still stayed in on a Sunday and hadnt gone out that day.
Do you know what tho? We don’t want to complain and see the driver prosecuted

I’ve had security tags left on things loads of times. Never entered my brain to complain.
Please get a life and realise if that is your problem to complain about, then you are very lucky indeed.

Sammysquiz · 09/02/2019 17:49

Ffs, OP has agreed she was being unreasonable. You can all stop piling in now.

Norma27 · 09/02/2019 18:17

Sammy I can’t see her admitting it. I could just see a load of ‘what ifs’.

Moondancer73 · 09/02/2019 18:22

Genuine mistake. Get over it for heaven sake.

Aridane · 09/02/2019 18:23

Where did the OP agree she was BU?

Oblomov19 · 09/02/2019 18:24

No. Complain? Are you serious?

ShesABelter · 09/02/2019 18:25

Na it wouldn't bother me.

FrameyMcFrame · 09/02/2019 18:25

Bought a swimming costume on the way to holiday in Lake District as I'd forgotten mine.
