I know mistakes happen, but surely to god cashiers in shops are used to seeing security tags on items!

Oh no!! They asked for a RECEIPT?! How will you ever show your face in public again?! You'll have to move to Mexico and change your name.

Or, alternatively, get a bloody grip.

Fluffyears · 09/02/2019 13:36

Does the store sell grips, but a massive one. You are one of those customers who najebretail a shit job. Well done you massive dick!

MrsTumbletap · 09/02/2019 13:37

Happened to me the other day, cashier forgot to take tags off 2 items. Didn't bother me at all.

You can't control life OP, if something like this annoyed you that much maybe something else is stressing you out?

HedgehogsAreVeryPrickly · 09/02/2019 13:38

This happened to me and I was wearing the item (desperation buy as v hot day). It was pointed out to me in another shop. Embarrassing. I went back to shop. They apologised. I said fine and went about my day. That was the end of it. YABU.

caughtinanet · 09/02/2019 13:39

How could a cashier forgetting to take a tag off be embarrassing for you?

Have you phoned the local paper to come and do a sad face?

Movinghouseatlast · 09/02/2019 13:40

No, it is a mistake.

Unless they arrested and imprisoned you I would accept that it was a mistake and move on.

surferjet · 09/02/2019 13:42

What if I couldn’t find my receipt?
What if I’d accidentally dropped it?
I’d have to go back in and sit in an office somewhere until they’d investigated further.
I could have been going somewhere important, & that totally unnecessary delay would have been extremely annoying.

This sort of thing clearly isn’t a big deal to the majority of you so I’ll accept I am being unreasonable.
Thanks for your feedback.

& no, it wasn’t today ( yesterday evening, but I’m still annoyed about it )

Just saw you complained. What a twattish thing to do.

Have you ever seen An Inspector Calls?

Meandmetoo · 09/02/2019 13:48

I'm not a giant wanker, so no, I wouldn't have complained.

Hth.

oldsilver · 09/02/2019 13:49

No, embarrassing is when you only buy a pregnancy test in a very large local supermarket. It goes beep on exiting and you have security, snd then runners wave it about in the air as they shout at the cashier (from a distance) that they "haven't deactivated a PREGNANCY TEST".

Thus informing the whole shop a) I've had sex recently and b) my DH's willy might have worked when we both had friends and family that worked there as well as having seen colleagues in there whilst shopping and no one knew we were TTCing.

Did I complain? Hell no, that would be silly and sometimes those swipes just don't work.

Sirzy · 09/02/2019 14:03

Surely as soon as the alarm goes off you stop and let them check and remove as needed??

By leaving the store after the alarm has sounded that will have been what created the issue because most people who have genuinely experienced an error wouldn’t think twice about stopping surely?

bibbitybobbityyhat · 09/02/2019 14:08

OP, I think the only person who agrees with you on this AIBU is someone who actually can't believe they are agreeing with you!

So you probably need to conclude that you were indeed BU.

Alanna1 · 09/02/2019 14:15

Mistakes happen. I can assure you it is far more annoying to leave the shop with a security tag accidentally still attached to an expensive item just before you go on holiday and the bleepers not go off.

Gazelda · 09/02/2019 14:16

So you spent 5 or 10 mins making a complaint about a mistake. And you probably got an apology.
The cashier might have had it mentioned to him/her along with a knowing eye roll.
Was it really worth your time and energy?

Betaboo · 09/02/2019 14:17

It is absolutely mortifying, it happened to me in a big store on Oxford street a few years ago, the security guys ran like crazy after me, I didn't realise it was something in my bag which had gone off, they searched my bag on the street and checked the receipt, then I had to walk back into the store with the security guys to get the tag removed. Everyone was apologetic, but still it was humiliating.

m0therofdragons · 09/02/2019 14:27

Oh get a grip. Some people really do complain about everything. Normal people would laugh this off.

2019hereicome · 09/02/2019 14:30

I hope you do your job absoloutly perfect all day every day for your whole career because you get what you give.

Your an arsehole.

megletthesecond · 09/02/2019 14:30

No.
As long as the security staff were polite it wouldn't be a big drama.

tartandreams · 09/02/2019 14:35

well you're right one one count op, you're an embarrassment! well done Grin

SemperIdem · 09/02/2019 14:36

If it cheers you up at all, surfer, you can be sure that all the staff have heard about your complaint and you’re the current laugh in the staff room. Customers like you always are.

AguerosAngel · 09/02/2019 14:37

No. I wouldn’t of complained, there was no harm done.

But I’m not a dickhead drama queen.

DonnaDarko · 09/02/2019 14:42

You're way too angry about this.

Bryjam · 09/02/2019 14:45

I’d have to go back in and sit in an office somewhere until they’d investigated further.

This actually happened to me recently. I left Sainsbury's having paid at self scan, and it asked if I wanted a receipt. I said no. Because no is a reasonable option. The thing went off and the security guard came to the door. I had a few pieces of clothing from the sale loose in my trolley (bags were in car) and he checked them but none were tagged. I explained I had no receipt because it was optional, and that none of the clothes in the trolley had set the thing off anyway. He reckoned I should have clicked yes for a receipt, but couldn't tell me what difference it would have made in that situation. He didn't make me sit in an office.

It wasn't until 3 days later when I went to take the Apple ear pods that i bought in Argos (inside Sainsbury's) out of the bottom of my bag that o saw the metal strip on them and realised they were the offending article.

Saucery · 09/02/2019 14:46

If...if...if......

....but none of those things happened, so.......

I had to go back to a shop once without a receipt but with a branded bag. They were a little suspicious about it I think, but I got over it.

MamaLovesMango · 09/02/2019 14:47

What if you checked quickly that the items that you KNEW had tags had them removed before you put them in the bag?
What if you keep hold of your receipt until you left the shop and we’re away like you’re meant to?
What if you do this things because you know mistakes happen?
What if you could take responsibility of yourself and your possessions like most normal human beings do?

Have you seriously got such an empty life that you have to make yourself feel better by berating low paid workers and that you are still thinking about this today? That’s a bit sad really. As is, giving so much thought into what others think about you, considering you did nothing wrong.
