Yes.watched it today. WTAF. The parents are worse than the abuser

Magicstar1 · 08/02/2019 23:17

I watched it a few days ago and when DH came home I said “you have to see this” and watched it again. The maddest thing I’ve seen in years...how did they all fall for it??? And as for the father in the car - WTF!?!?

81Byerley · 08/02/2019 23:17

It was very weird. The parents were naïve at the very least.

Whatthefunk · 08/02/2019 23:17

Made my skin crawl..

The only show where the mention of aliens isn't the weirdest part Hmm

81Byerley · 08/02/2019 23:18

I agree, father in the car....

rosesandcashmere · 08/02/2019 23:19

I think they needed to concentrate more on the religious aspect of the community to help the viewer understand the crazy of it all.

TheCanyon · 08/02/2019 23:25

@UghFletcher
The only show where the mention of aliens isn't the weirdest part have you never ventured onto websleuths? An alien has bound to crop up there, i fucking love websleuths

helpconfused · 08/02/2019 23:26

I think the parents ought to have been done for it. They showed no care for their daughter, only for their own reputation. They were selfish and self centred. Vile.
How the mother can still smile at the memories of her and B together ... I just don't understand. They put the daughter more at risk by not reporting the second abduction for ages. Why on earth agree to a grown man sharing their daughters bed but say they 'didn't really like it'.
Seriously f**ked up

Whatthefunk · 08/02/2019 23:26

And I reached over in an act of masturbation.....and then they let their daughter go on a little road trip with him??

I keep reading the hype about this and tried to watch it but got bored after about half an hour, during the first time she was kidnapped.

TinselAndKnickers · 09/02/2019 00:57

The phone call where her sister said "how are you?!" And burst into tears has stuck with me, so upsetting. I'm shocked the parents never faced charges, and she was able to forgive them.

With this and the Ted Bundy tapes coming out, what we can conclude is that law enforcement and detective work in 1970s America was shite.

Upsy1981 · 09/02/2019 16:56

I've just watched this with my face like 😮.

Is this true?

RolandDeschainsGilly · 09/02/2019 16:58

She did really well in court against him when he sued her for her book.

Her parents are disgusting. From her Dad, to letting him sleep in her bed, to the Mum having an affair after he’d kidnapped her the first time?!

I just can’t form word.

Farmerswifey12 · 09/02/2019 17:01

It's absolutely shocking, I couldn't get my head around their behaviour at all.

Makes me feel like supermum in comparison

AguerosAngel · 09/02/2019 17:10

The most bonkers thing I’ve ever watched!

I sat with my mouth open the whole time!

Justheretogiveaviewfrommyworld · 09/02/2019 17:24

Who the hell would let a grown man sleep in the same bed as your daughter, 4 x a week for 6 months?! [shocked]

Soubriquet · 09/02/2019 17:37

Is this a film?
Tv program?
Netflix?

Walnutwhipster · 09/02/2019 17:41

I'm watching it now. WTF were the parents thinking!

pictish · 09/02/2019 17:46

I watched this too and was similarly gobsmacked at the unfolding of events. Never known anything like it.

Rubytinsleslippers · 09/02/2019 17:48

Either they were incredibly stupid or were in on it.
Shocked and stunned at the whole thing.

Walnutwhipster · 09/02/2019 17:54

Why on earth would they allow themselves to be filmed? Do they have no idea of how it would be received!

pictish · 09/02/2019 17:54

I think the mum and dad were both a combination of extremely naive and sexually frustrated, which the perpetrator exploited to the best of his abilities. They weren’t very worldly at all.

FlurkenSchnit · 09/02/2019 17:57

It's a documentary on Netflix.

I saw it about a week or so ago and the whole time I watched it, my mouth was open in shock! I simply couldn't believe that they would let him do those things with their daughter.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 09/02/2019 18:00

It is shocking.

It’s a great example of how grooming works though. By targeting the parents weaknesses and desires he needed to do very little to get his hands on a child.

Desire, shame and secrecy are powerful tools in the abusers armory.
