The drawer of random crap

I seem to have this drawer in my kitchen that's full of random stuff that I can't find anywhere to otherwise put it.Included are suction stickers ,old sunglasses and various rolls of patterned sellotape! Do you have an equivalent and please describe contents .

Yes! It's the top drawer of the hall drawers plus a drawer in the utility room. Same contents as yours plus spare keys, dead batteries, tape measures and all sorts of other stuff

IdleBetty · 04/02/2019 14:54

Yep the come-in-handy drawer, which won't even fit my handy in it!

Bigonesmallone3 · 04/02/2019 14:56

Yup, how could anyone not have one, mine contains tea lights, spare keys the odd dummy and lots more crap

RiverTam · 04/02/2019 14:58

I have 3!

Mamadothehump · 04/02/2019 14:58

Oh god, I have many of these drawers!! Sunglasses, tea lights, batteries, skipping ropes, chargers to things I don't even know what they belong to etc!!

WatchingFromTheWings · 04/02/2019 15:01

I have more than one drawer and in more than one room too! Things like old keyrings (can't/won't get rid as they are mementoes of trips); pens, 'cause you can't have too many (though most probably don't work); and batteries (may be new, but more likely not!)

I'm determined to get rid! Might just make a start on it now later.

Imnotswallowingthat · 04/02/2019 15:31

Michael McIntyre does a lenghty routine on this subject except he calls it the "Man Drawer"....

CallMeSirShotsFired · 04/02/2019 15:34

If I ever meet someone who does NOT have a junk drawer, I shall immediately disassociate from them, as they are clearly a weirdo.

TeenTimesTwo · 04/02/2019 15:45

Ours got so full it overflowed over the back.
DH had to cut into the back of the kitchen unit to recover items. Shock
We have since thinned out the drawer.

sellotape, string, cheque books, fuses, elastic bands, leaflets/money off vouchers for local places, membership cards, scissors, envelopes, spare keys

Stringofpearls · 04/02/2019 15:47

Used to have the drawer, now it's a whole cupboard...

ALongHardWinter · 04/02/2019 15:56

I think this might be what my DD calls her 'Man Drawer' Grin. I asked her if she had a couple of metres of string that I could have, and she said 'I'm sure I've got a ball of string in my 'Man Drawer'. When I asked what her 'Man Drawer' was,she said 'It's full of manly things lke batteries, light bulbs, screwdrivers and electrical tape'.

MonoClue · 04/02/2019 15:57

I have just this weekend emptied and cleaned out all my kitchen cupboards and drawers so I no longer have a random drawer of doom.
I’ve got a walk in airing cupboard that now has a set of storage drawers which is home to my tools and cleaning supplies, my hoover, brushes, mops etc also live in there.
I even organised my fridge freezer into designated areas.
I keep going into the kitchen and admiring my organised kitchen Blush
I think I need a hobby Smile

The man drawer Grin

Spam88 · 04/02/2019 16:10

My parents have still got Philips Savvy mobile phones in theirs 👍

CantWaitToRetire · 04/02/2019 16:12

My main 'crap drawer' has several plastic boxes stacked in it. One has batteries, another birthday candles/badges etc, there's another with padlocks, keys, random nuts and bolts. I've got USB storage keys, tissues, hand warmers, shoe laces, a ping pong ball, a mousetrap.... You get the gist! I also have a crap cupboard with stuff that I convince myself I'll need/want one day, but that day never seems to come....

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 04/02/2019 16:12

We have a drawer and a cupboard full of crap under the microwave. The corner cupboard under the kettle, where the gas meter lives, is also full of crap. We have another drawer of shite at the end under the spice rack. We have a worktop and the cupboard under the sink that's full of booze (we very rarely drink but we look like a pair of alcoholics). There's shite on top of the cupboards, crap on top of the fridge freezer, a plastic drawer unit full of crap and stuff on the windowsill next to the fridge freezer. In short, our house is one giant "man-drawer". It does my head in and I'm always trying to get rid of stuff and doing clear-outs but Tupperware, wires, batteries and screwdrivers breed and multiply like rabbits, I'm sure.

GrumpyOlderBloke · 04/02/2019 16:14

I'm a real man - I have a shed.

Contrary to my sons' assertions I do not have a box labelled pieces of string too short to be useful.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 04/02/2019 16:15

Yep, the big drawer in the kitchen. Batteries, tape, fast food menus, old glasses, old pens, candles, bits of toys, random unidentifiable crap that might turn out to be important so gets kept.

My dh periodically clears out the drawer and then proudly exclaims that it’s tidy. Unfortunately this always means that he’s dumped the crap on the worktop which is now full of shite. He does not like this being pointed out. The crap is supposed to be hidden in the drawer, not displayed all over the kitchen.

isseywithcats · 04/02/2019 16:29

i dont have a random crap drawer i have a whole blooming cupboard full of all sorts every so often i get fed up of it so i have a ruthless clear out a week later its full again im sure it produces its own crap when im not looking

BearSoFair · 04/02/2019 16:42

We have one, far left drawer in the kitchen unit. Contains spare pens, a tape measure, old tea towels for spills, a few old coasters, keyrings, screws that came out of things but DH 'couldn't find a use for them' when putting items back together so they're kept just in case it all falls apart, buttons, and shoelaces. I think that's all of it!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 04/02/2019 16:44

Got a few of them...

  • one has sewing stuff, old batteries, string, elastic bands and other bits that don't fit elsewhere
  • one is full of old cables - DP keeps wanting me to chuck them, but then mislaid his phone charger last week and I was able to untangle one from the drawer that fitted perfectly
  • my desk is covered with things that are too big to fit the above, such as tupperware, my hair dryer, chocolates left from Christmas
Starlight90 · 04/02/2019 16:44

We had one in our old house and vowed never to start a new one up when we moved. Full of old keys that DH owned. Possibly of cars he owned before i knew him.

We do have a drawer of sorts but it doesn’t house half the shit he used to. Only cos I throw it once it goes in.

Starlight90 · 04/02/2019 16:47

Oh and im putting stuff into plastic boxes now. Plasters, batteries, painkillers, etc. All sorted and im slowly going through the house.

I blame Instagram.

wonkylegs · 04/02/2019 16:49

Yes it's in a unit in the dining room
aa Batteries, a little tiny screwdriver, 3d glasses from cinema, a single Christmas cracker, a pack of tissues, an underwater disposable camera (I don't even know where that came from), camera battery charger, a white board eraser, some pens, lip balm, some ribbon, a comb, a shoe shine wipe,

MrsMarigold · 04/02/2019 16:50

Everyone needs a drawer of doom, ours is by our front door and almost anything can be found in there, painkillers, contraceptives, plasters, hairbrushes, lipstick, stamps, address books, bicycle pumps, sewing kits, emergency stick on name tapes, pens, sunglasses, gloves, woollen hats, paper clips, safety pins, money, family rail passes, torches, screwdrivers, batteries etc. All vital stuff as you often need those things urgently as you nip out the house.
