Surely this won't sell. www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-57097935.html Talk about OTT!

I think it's amazing. I'd need a load of new furniture though. My soul-less IKEA Malm units would look a bit daft.

They know their own minds and i have huge respect for that. No cover of best home mag style, every house looks the same, safety for them.

Crockof · 04/02/2019 08:40

I love it.

MWNA · 04/02/2019 08:44

Are you kidding?! It's amazing.

MondeoFan · 04/02/2019 08:47

I really love that house not the kitchen so much but I love the rest

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 04/02/2019 08:49

I love it too. I would replace the windows but the open aspect is lovely,p and the period character is nice. I like the personality inside too. It wouldn’t be my first choice and I’d probably tone it down by a good 50% but I can think of worse decor. I like that they’ve made it their home and not a reflection of whatever interiors trend is in.

AntlerFlames · 04/02/2019 08:50

I wouldn't change a thing 😍😍😍

FaultInMyStars · 04/02/2019 08:53

I think it's rather lovely in parts - it wouldn't put me off at all, if I could still have spare cash for selective redecorating. I'm not keen on the "padded" wallpaper in the master bedroom so that would have to be repainted but I do like the kitchen, hallway and conservatory - and wow - that garden!
The difficulty would be that once all the coordinating furniture and light fittings are removed, most people would struggle to recreate the look, and out of context, it could all look a bit tatty, homemade and weird. But, with the right eye, you could tone it down and it still would look quirky but a bit less gobsmacking!

Steamfan · 04/02/2019 08:54

it's lovely! And that garden!

notapizzaeater · 04/02/2019 08:55

I have the wallpaper in picture 8. I think it's fab, would de clutter it a bit though.

Marmitebread · 04/02/2019 09:03

Love it! But expensive though.

newyearnewwhat · 04/02/2019 09:03

Paula Yates had a house in Hastings, maybe this was it!!
I love it, would tone it down a bit if it were mine but so much more interesting than all the boring shades of grey and bloody mute shades in chalk paint that everyone loves Wink

neurotransmittens · 04/02/2019 09:12

Oooh I love the use of colour. My own taste is neutral with a just a splash of brightness.
I think it will sell. It's only paint that is needed if it doesn't suit the next owner. Large job maybe but purely cosmetic.

lastqueenofscotland · 04/02/2019 09:15

I love it. Rather that then grey everything

JudgeRindersMinder · 04/02/2019 09:20

Love it (apart from the room in photo 1). Im not sure how long I’d manage to live with the decor in reality, but I’d give it a damn good try! The garden’s great too

CigarsofthePharoahs · 04/02/2019 09:23

It looks to me like someone let Changing Rooms decorate the whole house.
All that visual noise would feel very oppressive after a while to me.

OutPinked · 04/02/2019 11:04

I adore it!

cfmagnet · 04/02/2019 11:07

I love it!

InsomniacAnonymous · 04/02/2019 11:32

Well! Having read all these posts, I think it's blindingly obvious whose taste (and no doubt, house) is "horrendous". It's mine! Doesn't that just serve me right for being judgemental, although I assure you I would never say anything negative about this house to the owner. I'm not rude and I do get it that tastes differ and that it's not a matter of right and wrong.
Needless to say, I won't be posting pictures of my own house, not least because it hasn't been decorated for decades. How's that for "horrendous"? Grin
I knew when I posted this thread that many people would love the house, I just didn't expect it to be unanimous.

Don't worry OP! The last thread on this house had an almost polar opposite response. There really is a bit of a hive mind on lots of Mumsnet threads Grin. Or, some people who hold an opposing view to the majority on a thread feel too intimated to go against the crowd.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 04/02/2019 12:10

Here is the previous thread - there were a lot more who agreed with you on there.

InsomniacAnonymous · 04/02/2019 12:10

What a kind reply bibbitybobbityyhat. Thank you. Smile

well, what is interesting to me is that the link for when the house was last on the market, in 2014, shows that the current owners haven't changed much, if anything they have added a few colours, the kitchen used to have some navy, and these owners have replaced it with tourquoise!.

I too like it. I would love to keep parts of it, might, for exmaple, keep some of the amazing wallpaper, but tone down the matching paint.

BUT

  1. it is going to be very hard to paint over. It will take many coats and the woodwork will be horrendous. If you couldn't afford to pay painters, then the idea of doing 3 coats on the ceiling in every room would put me off.
That, and the fact that every single room needs doing (if you wnat to change it) (I quite liked the patchwork ridiculous bathroom/loo, make me thingk we shoudl do something daft in ours!)
  1. That fab entertaining space in the agrden by the lovely pond it actually right at the bottom of the garden, down a hug hill, so rubbish really. Not clear if there is anything closer to the house.
DonDrapersOldFashioned · 04/02/2019 12:19

Insomniac, if it helps I don’t live in a house like you’ve linked, despite my liking for it. My house is more mainstream tasteful/classic. I’d like more bold colour (I love the interior stylist, Sophie Robinson’s house) but DH and the offspring have to live here too and it’s not their idea of relaxing decor.
