How much do you drink? Honestly

Hi,

I'm sure this has been done to death, but I guess I was just feeling a bit nosey.

So we've just had dry January and there are more teetotalers in this country now than ever before, but we're still very much a drinking nation, aren't we?

So quite simply, how much do you drink(if anything)? And if you do drink, what kind of drinker are you? I.e, do you only drink at the weekend? Are you mostly dry, but when you drink, you binge? Or do you drink throughout the week? Are you happy with your drinking? Do you worry about it?

I suppose I should go first Blush

This week I've had just one dry day (ooops- stressed, but only a small glass in the evening) but usually I'm dry in the week, but will drink Friday until Sunday. Not constantly Grin but I'd say a couple of bottles of wine in that time, if I'm being completely honest, which I know is slightly over the RWA.

I definitely over indulged over Christmas and I always do when I'm on holiday. That said, I never drink to get drunk, although I do enjoy that slightly tipsy, merry feeling.

Ok, over to you....

Next to no alcohol - two measures a year?

Too much caffeine.
Too much skimmed milk.

GreenEggsHamandChips · 01/02/2019 13:17

Ill have a glass or to with a nice meal out. I Other than that not a lot and nothing regularly. I cook with it more often than i drink it

ClarabellaCTL · 01/02/2019 13:19

I'm quite like you really. Wine is my tipple. If I've had a rough day I might have 1 or 2 small (and they are small, I measure them!) glasses over the evening. At the weekend DH and I can polish off a couple of bottles. Do you count your units? I did for a bit out of curiosity and on holiday I drank 0.5 bottle/wine every night for a week! That's about 28 units in a week I think.

I had a couple of drinks last weekend. But before that was at least 3 weeks ago
I just got bored drinking.

I would mostly drink over the weekend.Bottle of wine,a few beers. But i didnt enjoy it anymore.Getting too old.

ClarabellaCTL · 01/02/2019 13:22

I should add that 28 units a week is not usual, that's just because we were on holiday! In the last week I've had 16 units.

jackio2205 · 01/02/2019 13:22

I can only really say what it was like before kids as ive basically been pregnant for like 2.5 years now 😂, but i'd say i'd have a bottle in the week and then maybe 2 bottles at the weekend, maybe more at wknd? I can take it or leave it to be honest, but i think its my social circle, family that live close so we have midweek dinners, working in london i go out a fair bit and both mine and my hubby's circles are big so always a party/night out/wedding? X

formerbabe · 01/02/2019 13:23

I don't drink, but I'm not totally tee total. I'd have a single glass of champagne at a wedding for example. I don't think I've drunk any alcohol this year. I had some fizz on Christmas day. If I never had another drink again, I couldn't care less.

FurryDogMother · 01/02/2019 13:26

I didn't do Dry January (family celebrations near the beginning of the month would have made that difficult), but I stopped drinking totally a few weeks ago - with no intention of starting again any time soon - and am feeling much better for it. Before, I'd have a bottle of wine most days, or several vodkas on a weekend evening. I stopped because I watched one too many YouTube videos about liver damage and decided to give mine a break. I'd been drinking well above recommended levels for about 30 - 40 years (with some breaks), so I think we can assume that I've done some damage, so am addressing it before I become symptomatic. I'm really not missing it!

Lottapianos · 01/02/2019 13:27

Usually nothing Mon to Fri. 3 pints on a Saturday, couple of glasses of wine on a Sunday. Sometimes a gin and tonic in there as well. I would have 2-3 drinks most days on holiday. A dry month at least twice a year

BendydickCuminsnatch · 01/02/2019 13:28

Probably 2 glasses of wine a month max. It just sends me to sleep really so just a waste of calories.

Looooads of sparkling water (thanks sodastream!) and probably too much coffee and tea.

Dimsumlosesum · 01/02/2019 13:28

Usually three quarters of a bottle of wine every night.

Oogle · 01/02/2019 13:29

I counted up my units for the week after Christmas...58. I was horrified. I wasn't drinking exceptionally heavier than usual either. So my habit of half a bottle/bottle of wine a night had to stop.

I downloaded a drink tracker app and during January I consumed a total of 45 units (this includes the bottle of Champagne I drank on NYD). I've had 21 days without alcohol in January. The first two weeks were tough but then it got so much easier. I feel so much better and I've lost the uncomfortable bloat in my stomach.

14allall41 · 01/02/2019 13:29

I use the drink aware app so note down exactly what I drink. It's usually about 12 units a week.

Bluesheep8 · 01/02/2019 13:30

Honestly? Nothing Mon to Thurs, a bottle of wine per night on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

BroomstickOfLove · 01/02/2019 13:31

I did dry January. Before that, I'd have between half to one bottle of wine a week or next average - sometimes no alcohol, sometimes an extra glass of wine or spirits once a week or so. I had a whole bottle of wine in one night once, and felt grim at the time and afterwards. I really value like can the east of wine, gin and whiskey, but I hate being drunk.

lubeybooby · 01/02/2019 13:32

None

Had about 5 units total last year, made the decision to go totally booze free this year. I used to be a glass a night kind of person but slowed down as the calories are just not worth it and I've gradually gone off it the healthier I am

I have a heavily diluted amount of grown up ginger cordial in the evening now which suits my tastebuds and goals and is a bit more interesting than water. Sometimes rooibos tea (I need caffeine free for evenings so no coke or regular tea)

Hen2018 · 01/02/2019 13:32

Nothing since 1997

14allall41 · 01/02/2019 13:33

Didn't answer all your questions...Don't usually drink Mon-Thurs - sometimes have a g&t one evening. Wine at the weekend. We've swapped to using a wine box and then we never have that ooh might as well finish the bottle feeling.

Bastardanxiety · 01/02/2019 13:33

Hmm I often wonder if I'd really miss it, because most people I know who give it up, swear that they don't.

I would assume that I really would miss it, in all honesty. I love pulling out the wine glasses on a Friday night and hearing that clink. I love going to my local and having a couple of glasses of red with a roast. I love going out with my friend for a catch up and perusing the cocktail menu and I can't imagine getting bored of that.

At least 3 dry days a week, and a couple of bottle of wine over the other 4 days. Unless I'm out (once in a blue moon) when I do binge drink. Last time we were out we shared a bottle of wine then I had about 5 gins and a pint.

ErickBroch · 01/02/2019 13:36

I drink only when I go on a night out - this could be once every 2/3 months, that's it. I'm in my mid-20s

twoheaped · 01/02/2019 13:36

None.
I have had horses since I was 18, that means early mornings are non negotiable.
I last had an alcoholic drink 23 years ago, in my mid 20's.
Don't miss it and never, ever get the urge to have one.

WildFlower2019 · 01/02/2019 13:37

I never drink during the week.

Occasionally, I will drink a bottle of beer on a Friday or a Saturday night. But probably once or twice a month if that!

I don't really like wine but will drink it out of politeness if offered it by the in-laws when at a meal with them.

Prefer a good old cup of tea to be honest!

mycatplotsdeath · 01/02/2019 13:37

Odd cider at weekends
Glass of fizz Xmas day or wedding
A cocktail if out with friends

Maybe 10 drinks a year

MarshaBradyo · 01/02/2019 13:37

Usually a couple of glasses out at late lunch on Saturday with the family and a few glasses of red wine on a Sunday

Avoid it during the week
