How about a thread about puddings?

We've had a cake thread recently and very good it was too. Made me think about puddings and how much I really enjoy a decent pud, even though I don't eat them very often.

My favourites are warm Bakewell tart/pudding with custard, a proper steamed golden syrup sponge, dark gingerbread with custard, really rich chocolate mousse.

Can you tell it's cold where I am! Hot puddings all the way (although mousse is not got obviously).

Or how about a treacle tart?
Proper jam roly poly?

Ooh hungry now. I love:
Bakewell tart/pudding
Lemon tart
Apple crumble and apple pie
Eton mess
Chocolate pudding and custard
Cherry ice cream (could eat it every day)
Waffles with ice-cream
Cheesecake - most types
I could type for about half and hour!!!

A real suet jam roly poly is the best gift the world gave us. Only one place in a million mile radius of my house does them!

DuggeesWoggle · 31/01/2019 18:13

Those self saucing chocolate pudding which you make a thick cake batter, pour over cocoa, sugar and water and bake it and it magically transforms into a stodgy chocolate sponge on too with a gooey chocolate sauce underneath. Heaven.

I think there is such a thing as a lemon one too but never tried it. Should really do that one day very soon!

Sticky toffee pudding and ice cream
Melt in the middle chocolate pud with ice cream

Disfordarkchocolate · 31/01/2019 18:16

Tomorrow I was going to make egg and bacon pie and some cheese scones, I may have to change that to crumble made with chocolate chips. Best idea ever.

Raera · 31/01/2019 18:16

Does Yorkshire pudding count?

CakeNinja · 31/01/2019 18:17

Something hot and chocolatey with clotted cream.
No nuts and no fruit please!

DareDevil223 · 31/01/2019 18:17

I love fruity puddings like crumbles and fruit pies but my absolute favourites are panna cotta, something about the texture of it is so nice and my own baked rice pudding Smile

DuggeesWoggle · 31/01/2019 18:20

Does Yorkshire pudding count?

Yes if you serve it with golden syrup or jam and probably custard or cream too. It's what Yorkshire folk do with leftover puds Grin

Just going to give this thread a bump after an early night last night and a busy day today.

Definitely feels like a sticky toffee pudding kind of night! Shame we haven't got any Grin

Lemon self saucing pudding is amazing.

Queen of Puddings (Delia Smith recipe) is the best thing ever.

Apple charlotte is also very tasty.

Rhubarb crumble is the best one to have with custard.

vampirethriller · 01/02/2019 20:31

Blackberry and apple crumble
Lemon meringue
Bakewell pudding
Marmalade suet roll
Trifle made with orange jelly

RagingWhoreBag · 01/02/2019 20:35

I came on to recommend one of those self saucing puds and I see you’re a fan Duggee!

Nigella does one called Holiday Hot Cake - it’s made with cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg so perfect for Xmas but I make it all year round, and brown sugar to make a caramelly sauce. I put twice the amount of spice in that the recipe recommends (and actually double the whole recipe first to make sure there’s loads!). She serves it with eggnog cream, but plain whipped cream is gorgeous with it to counteract the sweetness. My favourite pudding to make, so easy but just delicious!

HesterShaw21 · 01/02/2019 20:37

Do panna cotta and tiramisu count? (I was in Italy recently)

I love making puddings. I make a Jaffa Cake Trifle after reading about it on here. Also a chocolate puddle pudding which I adapted to a Jaffa Puddle pudding with orange juice instead of water.
Queen of Puddings, Rice Pud in the slow cooker. Choc chip bread and butter pudding too.

anniehm · 01/02/2019 20:53

My favourite is proper jam roly poly cook over a rack of water in the oven and ambrosia custard. My Nannas chocolate steamed pud was the best, never quite got it right.

rightreckoner · 01/02/2019 20:57

Queen of puddings
Lemon posset
Sticky toffee pudding

Also something called Sussex Pond Pudding. A steamed suet pudding with a whole lemon inside.

All British. We rule at this. Yay Brexit Grin

RagingWhoreBag · 01/02/2019 21:14

anniehm how do you make the roly poly cooked over water? I had some leftover dumpling mix last week so rolled it up with some jam in baking paper and foil. It was pretty good to be fair but I imagine a proper suet (ironic autocorrect to diet Grin ) pudding should be fluffy and squishy, not quite as crusty and chewy as mine was!

Drogosnextwife · 01/02/2019 21:19

I had an amazing pudding when out for dinner about 3 months ago, I still think about it sometimes!

It was a waffle with banana, toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream and there was loads of the toffee sauce, and ice cream was melting in the bottom yet the waffle still managed to stay a little bit crunchy and a tiny bit chewy the whole time I was eating it. Perfect mixture of warm and cold and the toffee sauce was amazing! I'll need to go back there soon I think.
