How about a thread about puddings?

DuggeesWoggle · 31/01/2019 17:56

We've had a cake thread recently and very good it was too. Made me think about puddings and how much I really enjoy a decent pud, even though I don't eat them very often.

My favourites are warm Bakewell tart/pudding with custard, a proper steamed golden syrup sponge, dark gingerbread with custard, really rich chocolate mousse.

Can you tell it's cold where I am! Hot puddings all the way (although mousse is not got obviously).

@Elderflower14 yes! I can never remember that, it's odd! Grin

PrivateParkin · 02/02/2019 23:26

I came on to say self-saucing puddings, but I see I've been beaten to it Grin Chocolate orange is the one I usually make - my DS calls it cow pat pudding Hmm

Thanks to PPs for the recommendation of the Holiday Hotcake - great name! Might try that tomorrow.

I also like a good pavlova or trifle - ginger and pear trifle is good - using Jamaican ginger cakes, pears, cream - green ginger wine for your booze (sherry if not).

Also may I mention Delia's chocolate torte from her Christmas book - totally gorgeous and easy to make.

VeryFoolishFay · 02/02/2019 23:48

Love sticky toffee pudding, always use Jamie's recipe.
Marmalade and chocolate brioche pudding is a new favourite. My DM said last week it's the best pudding she's eaten in her entire life. Grin

I made a banana and chocolate cake the other day,the first time I'd made it in years and it was massive and gorgeous which was very telling by the fact that it was gone within one day.

I think I'll make another one tomorrow.

I also love homemade treacle sponge,Rhubarb crumble, apple crumble,Dulce and banana pudding, steamed chocolate pudding, baked rice pudding(made with double cream and baked in the oven until thick, creamy and sweet)when the weathers a bit warmer I end up making lots of shortbread, butterfly cakes(with cream icing that tastes like Mr Whippy Ice cream)flapjacks, brownies, sultana scones(I also make cheese one's but they're not really a pudding)coffee and walnut cake and different types of cookies.

The only challenge for me now is not eating hardly any of it because I'm on slimming world.

Shodan · 03/02/2019 00:18

I remember the Wimpy Bar Brown Derby! I suspect if we ate it now, we'd find it pretty revolting!

I'd still like to give it a go though Grin

Shodan · 03/02/2019 00:19

Gah. Bold fail.

CountessConstance · 03/02/2019 09:39

DuggeesWoggle I had this thread open since yesterday evening but have only now got to read it.

I'd like to complain that you are doing your thread incorrectly.

There are no recipes and it against the spirit of Mumsnet to post saliva-inducing threads without recipes.

Thanks to RagingWhoreBag who tried to rectify the situation.

Personally, I feel like the ultimate version of my mother when I serve
Mary Berry's magic chocolate pudding of a Sunday.

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 03/02/2019 09:48

Chocolate Panettonne pudding...posh bread and butter pudding.
With extra chucks of chocolate in...

PrivateParkin · 03/02/2019 10:07

Countess good idea! Here's Delia's chocolate torte

CountessConstance · 03/02/2019 10:13

Oh my goodness Private that looks stunning.
Is it difficult?

Though perhaps (as described earlier) more of a dessert than a pudding?

CountessConstance · 03/02/2019 10:14

PutYourShirtOn recipe? Please?

PrivateParkin · 03/02/2019 10:22

Countess yes, to be fair, it's definitely the dessert category isn't it?

It's really easy to make - my mum always used to get me to make it when I was a teenager so it must have been easy enough (and also if she asked me to chop up veg or something it would take me about a year).

I think today's a day for puddings rather than desserts though...

CakeNinja · 03/02/2019 11:19

We have that delia chocolate torte as our pudding on Christmas Day every year - it’s an absolute doddle to make and so so delicious!

VeryFoolishFay · 03/02/2019 12:11

We're having syrup sponge and home made custard later - it's our new Sunday thing.

CountessConstance · 03/02/2019 12:50

But FooloushFay where's the recipe

And homemade custard , ooh, ................ drool Grin

PatPhoenix · 03/02/2019 13:36

Puddings. I'm dessert-inclusive, they're all puddings to me.

Gooseberry fool
Gooseberry tart
Gooseberry pie
Damson fool

But: plum crumble

Can I also recommend bread and butter pudding made with hot cross buns?

PrivateParkin · 03/02/2019 14:41

Pat I love all those tart/sweet puds you listed. James Martin's Desserts book has got a nice plum crumble recipe where he cooks the plums in a load of red wine first. It's gorgeous - I hadn't made/thought of it for ages, but your post reminded me...

Spicy Plum Crumble

DuggeesWoggle · 03/02/2019 15:27

Sorry Countess

In my defence I am 9 weeks pregnant and struggling with exhaustion and nausea so while I can just about enjoy drooling at the thought of virtual puddings, actually making any is a bit beyond me at the moment!!

Anyone else feel free to post recipe links - I've been eating far too healthily for too long and now I am going to allow myself to indulge in a few puddings (given I can't have booze, strong coffee, blue cheese or all the other lovely things I like). A decent steamed syrup sponge recipe would be fab!

VeryFoolishFay I believe you are the cake queen from the cake thread - I feel honoured to have you here and glad to see you are also just as good at making puddings - they look incredible!!

My favourite pudding for a dinner party is home made profiteroles filled with Amaretto cream and a raspberry and the tops dipped in caramel. If eating those was in the Guinness Book of Records, I would win easily Grin

CountessConstance · 03/02/2019 16:54

Duggees apologies- that was a bit harsh on a first trimester mum. I remember very very well the exhaustion.

Riotingbananas · 03/02/2019 16:54

Cartmel sticky toffee pudding, and also their sticky ginger pudding. Apple and blackberry crumble, rhubarb crumble. Jam sponge or a syrup sponge.

Nothing slithery though shudder

WinterHeatWave · 03/02/2019 18:07

Volcanoes are often requested here.

Cheats icecream is good. Add vanilla essence, or melted chocolate or crushed fruit before freezing.

Stick toffee pudding, inspired by a MN thread recently went down well.

Not made steamed syrup sponge in years. Generous layer of syrup in bottom of a bowl. 2 egg sponge mixture on top. Tie greaseproof paper tightly round the top, and steam 1hr 30, iirc.
