How about a thread about puddings?

We've had a cake thread recently and very good it was too. Made me think about puddings and how much I really enjoy a decent pud, even though I don't eat them very often.

My favourites are warm Bakewell tart/pudding with custard, a proper steamed golden syrup sponge, dark gingerbread with custard, really rich chocolate mousse.

Can you tell it's cold where I am! Hot puddings all the way (although mousse is not got obviously).

Thank you for your kind words duggees - I am just a terrible 'tart' for anything sweet!

This is the recipe I use. I have done the full steamed pudding but to be honest, it's a bit of faff.

Am addicted to home made custard. I have learned the hard way though, cook on a really low heat otherwise it all splits when you are least expecting it!

Apologies, here is the full link again!

This is SO easy and everyone loves it. I get everything from Lidl for this one.

Ooh thanks Fay I am definitely trying the marmalade brioche pudding, that sounds amazing and DH would be in heaven. And home made custard, such a treat. I've never mastered it, it's always been very thin when I've made it.

Countess, don't worry I didn't mention being pg in my other posts so you couldn't know! I am also on DC2 although I have a 3 year old who mostly sleeps through but seems to be having a phase of waking up at least once at the moment. Plus I'm nearly 38 and boy do I feel so much creakier this time!

Flowers Duggees

Cheats Ice cream ? WinterHeatWave, looks fab.
I like thekitchn recipes- they seem foolproof.

May I add Salted Caramel sauce which makes everything better.
I love this lady's writing- I made this sauce first around 2009 and it has become a staple for me. The recipe is enough for 4-5 people and allows for leftovers to be stolen from the fridge for several days afterwards.

It falls in both the pudding and dessert sections I think.

WinterHeatWave · 04/02/2019 03:19

I'm not sure it can accurately be called ice cream, given the components, but the kids love making it, and so long as its eaten within a few days, pretty good for a no stir ice cream spending only 10 mins in the kitchen!
I think salted caramel sauce stirred through would be awesome, and could well be my activity for today!

Queen of Puddings, Lemon Meringue, Rhubarb Crumble

MorningsEleven · 06/02/2019 20:13

It's got to be sticky toffee pudding with a double helping of sauce and ice cream. I could eat one now.

Eve's pudding
Cornflake tart
Bakewell tart
All served with custard.

DuggeesWoggle · 07/02/2019 19:36

That looks awesomely stodgy, TheCatIsBoss - what kind of steamed pudding is it? Ginger?

I was going to make something yesterday but ended up getting a Botham's of Whitby ginger cake at the village shop so we've had that with custard (carton). Must do something this weekend.

The general recipe of a steamed pudding is easy but it's the folding parchment and foil round the basin and tying it all up with string that puts me off. Reminds me of my mum doing the Christmas pud, always looked very fiddly!

@DugglesWuggle it's steamed chocolate pudding. I got an instant pot late last year which is really good for steaming puddings (but not for the waistline!). Basically it's the As you like it steamed pudding recipe from BBC good food website with some cocoa powder in the mixture and some chocolate spread at the bottom and and made in individual pudding basins (I only made enough mixture for 2 puddings so I don't end up with loads of puddings left).

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 07/02/2019 19:53

About to put an M&S treacle tart in my face any minute.

Thecatisboss · 07/02/2019 19:54

@ DuggeesWoggle sorry mistyped your name when replying

Thecatisboss · 07/02/2019 19:55

@DuggeesWoggle hopefully finally get it right!

DuggeesWoggle · 07/02/2019 20:42

Ha ha TheCatIsBoss if you are in any way acquainted with the genius that is Hey Duggee on cbeebies then that is where I got my username.

Wow, chocolate steamed pudding. Oooh chocolate custard would be lush on that! I made a chocolate trifle once for Christmas and it was black cherries on top of chocolate cake in the bottom, custard with chocolate melted through to make it chocolatey and cream on top. Probably lots of booze too. Me & DH ate the lit, felt really ill but it was so worth it Grin.

I think I wrote the word chocolate about 8 times in that last paragraph. First trimester weird stomach means that after all that I don't really want chocolate Shock. Ginger cake and custard it will have to be!

@DuggeesWoggle Lol luckily my DD has outgrown that now. I'm now imagining a chocolate and cherry steamed pudding after you mentioned chocolate and cherries that would be good. Ginger cake and Custard sound lovely too, it's cold where I am and any pudding sounds like a good idea to keep out the cold.

Deathraystare · 08/02/2019 07:28

Autumnglow- I was going to reply re your pancake post to say your day will come. Just checked online and I have f*cking missed it! Yes I know all the paraphenalia was in the shops but I thought it was later in February! How could I miss it??!!!
