I have a broccoli emergency

I bought some Brocollo from waitrose to go with tonight's tea. Don't usually shop there. I was slightly shocked at the price as it was more than I would usually spend. However when I've got it home I've realised it's much more than I usually buy. Tomorrow's tea is sandwiches and Thursdays is waffles and beans. How will I ever use all this broccoli?
Before anyone starts, yes this is lighthearted :)

Soup then freeze. Broccoli tempura as a snack.

x2boys · 29/01/2019 18:20

You must be able to freeze it I buy frozen broccoli??

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 29/01/2019 18:20

Rice it then freeze it.

Racecardriver · 29/01/2019 18:20

Waffles and beans? You might as well have the broccoli then and have a three foods that don’t go together rather than just one.

CIT80 · 29/01/2019 18:21

Blanche it and freeze it

BikeRunSki · 29/01/2019 18:22

Blanche and freeze, but it lasts ok in the fridge for a week or so.

CurlsLDN · 29/01/2019 18:22

Omg have you ever roasted broccoli?! It's crispy, delicious and divine.

Toss in a little oil, sprinkle with salt and garlic powder (if you have it) cook on about 200 for about 15-20 mins, until it's just a tiny bit brown at the edges, then put a squeeze of lime over and eat with your waffles and beans. It will add some lovely texture and variety to what is otherwise a bit of an unexciting meal (sorry!)

Grobagsforever · 29/01/2019 18:22

Eat it on Friday you loon

weaselwords · 29/01/2019 18:26

Someone on our local Facebook page found a “giant hulk maggot” in her broccoli and wanted to warn us all. She posted a photo of ... a big green caterpillar 🐛. I laughed till I cried and love her so much for her very accurate description of the beast Grin

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 18:27

I do dry fry it after a short boil. It's lovely.
How can waffles and beans not go together Shock. Heathen.
That's the problem with strict meal planning - no flexibility

No idea but I love waffles and beans.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/01/2019 18:27

Broccoli cheese - mmmmmmm

DrCoconut · 29/01/2019 18:29

It keeps for ages in the fridge. As for waffles and beans, (assuming you mean potato and not cinnamon or something) they are a perfect combination and I'm feeling inspired!

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 18:29

The holes in waffles are baked bean size!
My children are wise to the fact I try to get more green vegetables into them, mainly by serving brocolli with odd meals, eg curry or stif fry. Broccoli with beans and waffles would be a step too far!

I love broccoli with baked beans!!

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 18:31

Broccoli cheese is a good idea, could make it on Saturday. In fact I am batch cooking on sat. Either veg soup or curry so will go in there. Would be better eaten fresh though :(

Broccoli cheese savoury muffins?

CurlsLDN · 29/01/2019 18:33

So don't give it to the kids, just have it all to yourself. I can very quickly and easily eat half a head of roast brocolli (which, by the way, is not the same finished product as blanched and fried brocolli at all!)

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 18:35

I like the tenderstem stuff. So much nicer than bog standard. So do you just roast in oil?

MorningsEleven · 29/01/2019 18:37

Waffles and beans?

Potato waffles. They're waffly versatile. It even says in the advert that they go with beans and eggs in and eggs on.

Brocco soup is ace. Broc broc dipped in hollandaise is like crack cocaine. I love broccoli.

GinaCarbonara · 29/01/2019 18:38

Oh god I can eat a whole head of roasted broccoli myself. In my defence it shrinks down a lot when you roast it.

I roast it with olive oil, garlic, pine nuts and lemon zest/juice then sprinkle with Parmesan near the end. Fuck it's good.

skorpion · 29/01/2019 18:39

I make broccoli risotto. Garlic, oil, rice, stock, add broccoli near the end, finish with grated parmesan.
I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this on a fasting day... :(

DerelictWreck · 29/01/2019 18:42

Have I missed why it has to be eaten before Thursday?

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 29/01/2019 18:43

Soup? Broccoli and Stilton soup is fantastic

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 18:44

Just because my meal planning is done up to the end of Friday and after that it will be past its best. Waffles may have to be pushed back :)
