I have a broccoli emergency

I bought some Brocollo from waitrose to go with tonight's tea. Don't usually shop there. I was slightly shocked at the price as it was more than I would usually spend. However when I've got it home I've realised it's much more than I usually buy. Tomorrow's tea is sandwiches and Thursdays is waffles and beans. How will I ever use all this broccoli?
Before anyone starts, yes this is lighthearted :)

If you want to keep it fresh til Saturday, cut a slice off the bottom of the stalk and stand it (the stalk) in a bowl of water. Will keep it fresher.

Broccoli in a stir fry is NORMAL! in fact I sometimes just stir fry broccoli and garlic.. lush

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 18:46

It is but I do deconstructed stir fry for the fussy children. Pepper noodles and Prawns and then brocolli as a side dish iyswim.

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 18:50

Actually I might have pasta one night and just eat it all.

Yes broccoli pasta with chilli, garlic, lemon & parsley. Yum
Or just with pesto.

Sproutingcorm · 29/01/2019 19:02

Pesto, broccoli and pea pasta (penne?) with smoked bacon lardons is really good!

Sproutingcorm · 29/01/2019 19:03

Add parmesan

BendydickCuminsnatch · 29/01/2019 19:08

Make broccoli slaw!!! It’s divine.
Chopped broccoli including stalks
Toasted slivered almonds or pine nuts
Mayo/Greek yog dressing
S&p
Mix all together, soooo good

DH & I are laughing at the ascending middle class-ness (made up word, don't care) of the thread. Thanks for cheering me up, OP. I have a crappy cold & have spent the day sneezing in a freezing house.

And I'm voting roasted broccoli. Yum Yum Yum. If you oil the tray instead of the broccoli, it would be fairly low cal / fat / whatever. If you care. I want roasted broccoli now.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 29/01/2019 19:08

(raw broccoli, that is)

Fazackerley · 29/01/2019 19:11

Broccoli, garlic, anchovies and cream on pasta

Food of gods

NoParticularPattern · 29/01/2019 19:12

Came on this thread to see what constitutes a broccoli emergency. Was not disappointed by the comments. I genuinely think some of you lot have just described broccoli in terms I usually only use for sex.

Also make broccoli cheese. It’s the SHIT. This thread has also served as a reminder that without autocorrect I STILL can’t spell broccoli.

BaldyBaldrick · 29/01/2019 19:13

When I get a ton of cauliflower and/or broccoli, I make a giant baked cauliflower cheese and freeze half. It's really nice reheated in the oven.

AwdBovril · 29/01/2019 19:14

Hurrah! I have just discovered we have not only broccoli, but cauliflower in the fridge. I know what I'm snacking on tonight. Grin

OP - I can confirm that broccoli does, or at least should, last considerably longer than 2 days in the fridge. Especially if it's in a paper bag. Ahem.

Bendy - that also sounds yummy. I like raw broccoli. But for that, at least, it would need to be very fresh. Just in case of tiny inhabitants... I am a broccoli washer.

Villanellesproudmum · 29/01/2019 19:15

The roasted broccoli sounds lush!

borntobequiet · 29/01/2019 19:17

Broccoli omelette finished under the grill with cheese on top.
Bread and butter.
My favourite meal.

YourFly · 29/01/2019 19:20

I just had

Pasta, garlic, creme fraiche, mushrooms, broccoli, cherry tomatoes & parmasan grated into it.

Lovely.

iklboo · 29/01/2019 19:24

Broccoli cheese is lovely. I change it up a bit by putting some mild salsa in the bottom of the dish. Really tasty.

HalfBloodPrincess · 29/01/2019 19:25

The word Broccoli has appeared so many times it’s lists it’s meaning

Some sort of tart or quiche would be my idea.

Riotingbananas · 29/01/2019 19:25

You could make this soup and freeze it. it's bloody lovely.
