I have a broccoli emergency

I bought some Brocollo from waitrose to go with tonight's tea. Don't usually shop there. I was slightly shocked at the price as it was more than I would usually spend. However when I've got it home I've realised it's much more than I usually buy. Tomorrow's tea is sandwiches and Thursdays is waffles and beans. How will I ever use all this broccoli?
Before anyone starts, yes this is lighthearted :)

I live on Broccoli, DH and I eat at least 3 large heads a week! I can eat a whole one in about 5 seconds flat, either steamed with butter or roasted. Divine! It’s my only healthy habit!

Broccoli won't have gone off by Friday if kept in the fridge - probably not if kept out of it either. I shop on Fridays and am eating veg bought then the following week and beyond.

Iamnobirdandnonetensnaresme · 29/01/2019 19:33

We eat broccoli with everything in this house- favourite veg here

PenguinPandas · 29/01/2019 19:38

You can either:

Invite my DS round - he will eat a whole plate of it raw.

Or make broccoli, cheese and potato bake

Or do the meal my DH always cooks steak in wine sauce, broccoli and potatoes.

Or decorate your house with it. It'll be even better than Christmas Grin

Or plant it in plant pots to make broccoli trees.

HoHoHolyCow · 29/01/2019 19:45

If you're anywhere near Durham then I'll send DS2 round. He would eat broccoli for every meal if he could...

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 19:46

It's not really about it going off, it's about using it at its best. As I say I m making a leftovers soup on Saturday. But it's so lovely it doesn't deserve to be souped

NigelGresley
Have you got a recipe for that?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/01/2019 20:04

My DS ‘yeah alright then...’

halfwitpicker · 29/01/2019 20:07

I'm trying to think of a witty comment but can't.

As you were.

PenguinPandas · 29/01/2019 20:13

What you need is a broccoli party - invite all MN DCs who love broccoli and you can have food like a broccoli and pineapple hedgehog and games like pin the broccoli on the donkey. Sorted.

juniperbushes · 29/01/2019 20:17

My solution for surplus comestibles is this:

Take said foodstuff in hand, go outside and knock on nearest neighbour's front door. Present them with it. Go back home.

Job done.

FriedEggs1 · 29/01/2019 20:27

My broccoli always goes yellow quickly and I've heard that it's toxic when it does that Shock

Op you'd like where I work. We have a living wall with broccoli on it.

NigelGresley · 30/01/2019 08:05

I steam the broccoli on top of the cooking pasta. Then lightly fry some chopped chilli & garlic in a good glug of oil. Add squeeze of lemon. Add drained pasta, broccoli and chopped parsley to the pan, season and stir through. Add cheese if liked! Super quick & easy.

StealthPolarBear · 01/02/2019 21:14

Panic over. I had some with pasta last night and the rest bin omelette tonight it was lovely.
