Would you go for a 4 day break to New York in February? Very rough itinerary- visit 9/11 museum, day of shopping, Empire State Building, Boat trip to see Statue of Liberty.

Yay or nay ?

NY is unpredictable in winter. Today it was 9C but it will hit a low of -16 and a high of -10 on Thurs next week.

At least it's not Chicago...

Hyatt on the Hudson in Jersey City, gorgeous hotel, we got a really good deal booking direct, perfect view of Manhattan Skyline, and down river you can see the Statue of Liberty. The hotel is right next door to a Path station with trains running every few minutes which whisk you into World Trade Center district in less than 10 minutes, there’s salso a ferry terminal just a couple of minutes walk away so you can cross the river that way if you like.

We were there visiting relatives for a few weeks in Feb last year. We had everything from snow to pissing rain to t-shirt weather. Layer up and enjoy. We flew via Dublin and cleared immigration before take off, this made a bigger difference than which airport we arrived into. I've been doing UK-NY once or twice yearly since 1987 and prefer JFK, but there's not much in it, really.

I lived in NYC for 12 years, and now CT, and February can either be in the 40s or you can go all the way down to single digits. There’s a reason why every other New Yorker wears a Canada Goose jacket.

There’s a great app called Hotel Tonight that offers decent to fairly high end hotels at reduced rates, and the rate is lower the closer you get to the date of arrival. I’ve used it a few times, and it’s been great.
