A week in June - where do you go?

DH and I aren't into resorts, but we do love a bit of sunshine, a mix of urban and outdoor activities and most of all, good food. We'd prefer not to have to rent a car and somewhere not hugely crowded. Our last holiday was to Seville and Granada and we absolutely loved it, if that's any indication of what we like.

Any ideas? Grin

We went to Madeira 2 years ago in June and loved it so much we are going back this June. Plenty to do for one week and lots of nice restaurants.

Redtartanshoes · 24/01/2019 18:58

Was going to suggest Grenada/Nerja

Portugal maybe? Lisbon? Majorca?

I was going to say Lisbon, or San Sebastian, but guess they are crowded being cities.

thegrinningfox · 24/01/2019 19:01

Croatia? Split. Rovinji in the Istria peninsula. Plitvice lakes are a must. Or Friuli region in the North east of Italy: easy access to the alps, Venice, Trieste, the sea and a million other places like Slovenia.

CottonSock · 24/01/2019 19:01

Kalkan turkey. Best with a car, but lots to do without.

icantthinkofanotherone · 24/01/2019 19:02

Channel Islands

thegrinningfox · 24/01/2019 19:03

Or Sicily. Ragusa o Taormina.
Or the Peloponnese: nafplio. Beautiful town withso much to see around. Bit of sea and hills and mountains to climb.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 24/01/2019 19:08

Lisbon or Valencia

Sauvignonblanket · 24/01/2019 19:08

Santiago de Compostela? Maybe not enough for a week but you could combine it with somewhere nearby?

ZenNudist · 24/01/2019 19:09

Rovinj Croatia. Lovely picturesque town, can get boat trips to ther places like porec, vrsar and up this canal/river to a georgeous restaurant.

Food is fab. Fly to Trieste (Italy) for cheap flights or Pula Croatia is nearer.

Split is another fab destination. Bigger than Rovinj, might be busier. Boat trips again to the Islands, trip to Trogir worthwhile or try to get to Krk national park. Presumably bookable on a trip.

SnowBambino · 24/01/2019 19:12

We island hopped around Croatia 2.5 years ago and it was amazing. No car needed as the ferries are ace. Stick to smaller islands like Korcula and Vis for gentle pace and the big places like Hvar and Dubrovnik for sites and excursions, although the latter are quite busy.

ZenNudist · 24/01/2019 19:12

Lake Como Italy great without a car. Stay in the middle in Menaggio easy to get ferries all around the lake. Plus a trip by train/coach to Bellinzona Switzerland to see the castles.

soupandshake · 24/01/2019 19:13

Naples and the Amalfi coast. Easy to travel by train.

KeepCalm · 24/01/2019 19:29

@thegrinningfox I dream of Puglia

thegrinningfox · 24/01/2019 19:34

@keepcalm Puglia is fab. Lots of lovely towns, beaches, food. You must!

Prosaic · 24/01/2019 19:40

Oooh, thanks everyone, heaps of brilliant suggestions here, keep em coming as I'm sure I'm not the only one who's being super indecisive about holidays Grin

Croatia seems to be highly rated, definitely adding that to the list. Anyone done Bulgaria? It's very cheap so it's catching my eye.

Also Lake Como looks amazing! Is it best to fly into Milan and then take a train?
