A week in June - where do you go?

DH and I aren't into resorts, but we do love a bit of sunshine, a mix of urban and outdoor activities and most of all, good food. We'd prefer not to have to rent a car and somewhere not hugely crowded. Our last holiday was to Seville and Granada and we absolutely loved it, if that's any indication of what we like.

Any ideas? Grin

I'd go for Italy - Sicily or Genoa. Beautiful scenery and fabulous food

ForalltheSaints · 24/01/2019 19:42

South of France, you don't need a car if in Nice or Cannes.

itssquidstella · 24/01/2019 20:38

Mallorca - Alcúdia or Port Pollenç are lovely.

San Antonio is great or Austin.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/01/2019 20:53

Another vote for Malta and Gozo. Stay a few nights in Valetta and 2 or 3 on Gozo, do a day trip to the blue Lagoon on Comino from either.

VoleClock · 24/01/2019 20:57

Oswestry

MrsAird · 24/01/2019 21:14

Llubljana

I've heard mixed things about Malta - it seems to be one of those places you either love or hate! It looks lovely though.

The UK is quite often wonderful in June. I would travel down to Cornwall and hang around in Padstow watching the boats and eating wonderful food. Such a gorgeous underrated part of the world.

FadedRed · 24/01/2019 23:19

Italian lakes: Como or Garda. Beautiful, good restaurants, decent public transport, lots to see and do.
Switzerland: Interlaken. Excellent public transport. Amazing scenery, lots to see and do.

ZenNudist · 25/01/2019 00:20

I think for Como your best bet is Milan Malpensa but check proximity to your chosen bit of the lake. We flew into Milan Bergamo but should have found out about ferry crossing before i set off rather than driving round the lake too far.

Geneva is a good option for Lake Maggiore.

Prosaic · 25/01/2019 09:29

I'm definitely warming up to the idea of Lake Como but it does seem a bit tricky without a car. There seems to be a train from Milan to Varenna which could be good if we can find decently priced accommodation there.

I looked into Dubrovnik last night but accommodation is a bit over our budget Blush

If you like food food, don't go to Malta or Croatia. Neither are noted for fine dining.

I'd definitely go for Italy.

Onecabbage · 25/01/2019 11:29

You appear to be describing Malta or Sardinia, both are sunny with nice urban areas and great food. Or how about Morocco, Ive not been to Morocco yet, but heading there this summer (earlier than you as we are both rubbish with heat.

Prosaic · 25/01/2019 11:44

I haven't been to Croatia but went to neighbouring Bosnia and although a beautiful country the food isn't anything to write home about Grin

I'm looking at Cinque Terre right now and it's tugging at my heartstrings...I hear it can be horribly crowded but maybe not so much in June?

Sardinia looks beautiful too. (I think Italy seems to be the winner here, just a question of where!)

South of France is known for beautiful beaches.

NoWayNoHow · 25/01/2019 11:59

Barcelona or Florence? Both tick the sun and stuff to do boxes.

Alabasterangel6 · 25/01/2019 12:05

Very north Spain - costa brava. Gorgeous relatively untouched coves on the coast with crystal clear water (tamariu, callela) and Gerona which is a fab city just a short bus ride away with its own airport. Or have a couple of days in Barcelona then train or coach to the above coastal areas.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 25/01/2019 12:16

If you liked Sevilla and Granada, how about Cadiz? Lots of culture, moorish history etc, nice beaches, good restaurants. Might be a bit too much "more of the same" though I guess.

bluebell2017 · 25/01/2019 12:21

Salzburg? Absolutely beautiful city very close to the airport. Easy to have day trips by bus to the Salzkammergut (Austrian lake district) and by train to Zell am See, Munich or Vienna.

catwithflowers · 25/01/2019 12:35

We are going to Florence and seem to have a similar holiday agenda to you 😊

DarlingNikita · 25/01/2019 13:08

Lisbon is fab. Beautiful, loads of good views from the (many!) hills, good food. I didn't find it unbearably crowded, just nice and bustling. You can also get the train out to Cascais on the coast; takes under an hour.

Serin · 25/01/2019 14:03

Verona.

keely79 · 25/01/2019 14:36

Sicily - Noto/Syracuse. Beautiful, very good value, sandy beaches, lots of gorgeous Baroque architecture.

UrsulaPandress · 25/01/2019 14:39

Another vote for Sicily. We stayed in Ortigia and it was beautiful.

But then I love Interlaken.
