Airbnb host being petty?

donewithwinter · 23/01/2019 08:40

We stayed in a Airbnb on Saturday a lovely little cottage. I made sure I cleaned the whole place before I left even though I paid £21 cleaning fee.

Their was a tiny bin in the kitchen which wouldn't fit everything in so we left our McDonald's bag on top of it and put dd's nappy inside the bin in a nappy bag.

She just send me a message asking why I didn't take the nappies with me the whole cottage stinks and why did I leave rubbish on top of the bin. And she found a chocolate stain on the side of the table.

Chocolate stain whatever I must of missed it but honestly who on earth takes nappies home with them?!

OMG. Y'all argue over the silliest things. Fuck that fuckin' shit!

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 24/01/2019 05:18

There is some mad shit on this thread.

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 24/01/2019 05:30

I don't think it's on leaving shitty nappies behind. Obviously she should have provided an outside bin, especially if she knew her guests had a baby with them. She knows that now, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

But even given that, I don't think I could have left a shitty nappy behind in the kitchen bin. I'd have taken it somewhere/anywhere I could have disposed of it properly, grumbling about it and making a mental note to mention it to the owner and in my AirBnB review.

I think you should say that while you accept you were slightly unreasonable, she was also at fault for not thinking through the needs of her guests. No-one is totally to blame, and can't you both just put it down to experience please?

wowfudge · 24/01/2019 05:59

What I have learned from this thread: a lot of posters think you shouldn't leave rubbish in a bin.

We've stayed in Airbnbs and do always empty the bins before we leave, but this is in Spain where rubbish goes into large communal bins outside and is usually collected daily. I don't clean the place, but do make sure washing up is done and the kitchen clean and tidy - exactly what I do at home.

I always ask hosts what they would like us to do before we leave. The response has always been the same: nothing. More fool this host for not checking the place over sooner.

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 24/01/2019 06:04

I don't think objecting to a shitty nappy left indoors in a regular bin counts as 'not thinking rubbish should be left in a bin.' Hmm

Perhaps the OP should have double wrapped it and left it outside in the cold, and forewarned the owner that it was there, stating that due to a lack of outdoor bin provision she did the best she could under the circumstances.

wowfudge · 24/01/2019 06:15

Oh dear god. I take it you don't live rurally because you wouldn't leave rubbish outside like that. No guarantee it would still be there by the time the host deigned to rock up for starters. And that's the host's problem. She should have been there at check out and she needs to provide a proper outside bin.

pictish · 24/01/2019 06:25

It’s the owner’s fault because no outside bin was provided. She should not have expected the OP to take her rubbish with her...how preposterous. And the ‘Ewwww germs DISCUSTING!’, crew on here are doubly so.

You didn’t do anything wrong OP. She’s a dick.

MerdedeBrexit · 24/01/2019 06:37

YANBU, OP - notice that the majority of AirBnB owners who've commented on this thread have said it is the owner's responsibility to provide an outside dustbin, or failing that, clear instructions as to what guests should do with their rubbish on departure (never heard anything so ridiculous as the suggestions to take it with you, that's not what you paid for!).

Raven88 · 24/01/2019 06:51

YANBU, she should have an outdoor bin at the property.

Cookit · 24/01/2019 07:26

I’m loving that some people travel around with all their rubbish in the boot.Grin

I would have done the same as you OP. Bins are for waste. You put waste in the bin.

SnuggyBuggy · 24/01/2019 07:32

Some Airbnb people sound really bone idle and I reckon people have it spot on with her not wanting to fork out for commercial waste disposal.

TatianaLarina · 24/01/2019 10:01

She obviously didn’t want to fork out on a cleaner either, just pocket the cleaning fee.

I think there are many Airbnb owners who see it as easy money and haven’t thought through the reality of managing professional rentals.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/01/2019 10:02

Perhaps the OP should have double wrapped it and left it outside in the cold
Yeah cos a nappy bag ripped open by a fox etc and tossed around the yard will teach her lesson in bin provision!!

I’m loving that some people travel around with all their rubbish in the boot but it's clean rubbish. The nappies have been depooped and run through the washing machine with the condoms!

Now I'm imagining a washitline full of drying condoms

SleepingStandingUp · 24/01/2019 10:22

Kenne because you don't put used condoms in bins other people have to empty, or usedsanpro

Cookit · 24/01/2019 10:32

What is the point of a bathroom bin then?

SnuggyBuggy · 24/01/2019 10:34

@Cookit for roses, luxury bubble bath and high end chocolates by the sound of some mumsnetters

SleepingStandingUp · 24/01/2019 10:35

I don't know, I don't even use condoms and there's not a chance in hell I'd touch a used one lol

For the empty toilet rolls??

Bluntness100 · 24/01/2019 10:39

I have to be honest, it doesn't look like a lovely little cottage to me, it looks like someone's garage conversion, I'm wondering if there is no outside bin because there is no rubbish collection there, and that's why she's a bit pissed off, she's not thought it through in terms of rubbish.

Clearly if she expects people to dispose of their rubbish she should tell them, but yes, likely it did stink when she went in, but I'd say it was more her fault than yours. I doubt many people would consider taking it home with them.

wowfudge · 24/01/2019 10:39

SleepingStandingUp as a host I provide sanitary disposal bags and lidded bathroom bins for my own use and for house guests. Hosting is about making someone feel at home. I would find it rather odd (and minging) that they took that kind of thing home with them. I'm flabbergasted that people would feel they couldn't put their rubbish in the bin.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/01/2019 10:44

Wow but its a well known MN fact that you can only wee in other people's homes and all evidence of anything else going on with your body must be shamefully hidden!! Shock

SnuggyBuggy · 24/01/2019 10:48

@SleepingStandingUp what you don't piss in a plastic bag and take it home to dispose of? How very terrible for your poor hosts.

wowfudge · 24/01/2019 10:48

Were you bring ironic? It's hard to tell on this thread!

theworldistoosmall · 24/01/2019 10:54

Oh come on. No one carries rubbish around with them.
Even less so when the location looks very rural. The closest village with a village shop and nothing else easily a 15-minute ride. The nearest place with a bin an hour drive away. Or your explaining to the taxi driver that you need to make a stop to dispose of your rubbish.

No way would I sit in a car with rubbish rotting and smelling away. More fool the host for not catering to their guests correctly. This times it was only for one night. Not exactly a nice relaxing holiday when you have to also take the rubbish with you every day.
