www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2019/jan/20/spanish-rescuers-start-drilling-to-reach-boy-trapped-in-well-for-six-days

This is awful, I can’t believe it hasn’t been more mainstream news? I fear the worst after so long but I hope they reach him.. IOS anyone else following this?

I'm keeping an eye on a Spanish newspaper. Stunned by the lack of general coverage in England if I'm honest.

Fingers are tightly crossed they get to him soon.

JLbaby · 25/01/2019 20:25

This site is good for up to minute updates if you understand Spanish -www.lavanguardia.com/sucesos/20190125/454294264744/julen-hoy-malaga-rescate-final-en-directo.html

Not sure if there’s a way of translating it!

honorariam · 25/01/2019 20:26

Thank you: I do have a working knowledge of Spanish so that's great.

BertieBotts · 25/01/2019 20:30

Sounds horrific :( I did read about this a couple of days ago.

Could they not have been lowering food and water down to him on strings etc? I suppose not if he's unconscious, and/or not directly down the hole?

Coppermine · 25/01/2019 20:31

I'm using this for updates, if you copy into google chrome it will auto translate to English. Would probably work for other sites too

ButtonMoonLoon · 25/01/2019 20:35

They have done the final explosion and are 45 cms away now
Psychologists are with the parents to help support them through the final bit. Civil guards are down to do the last bit.

Knittedfrog · 25/01/2019 20:38

Please keep updating on here.. I'm not able to access any of the sites to translate and my Spanish is not good enough to understand the links. The parents must be sick with worry and anticipation.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 25/01/2019 20:39

The hole is partially blocked with earth that fell after the child, they couldn't get a camera down to see the child, so they couldn't have got any food down.

It's quite likely now that after twelve days, he'll be in a state of coma anyway, if he didn't hurt himself when he fell.

Heymummee · 25/01/2019 20:41

The latest update from the link above at 21:19 Spanish time says that according to the information provided by the spokesman of the Guardia Civil, Jorge Martín, there are 45cm left to reach the well where Julen might be. It’s just horrific, I can’t bear thinking about it. Poor baby and his poor family.

Jaxtellerswife · 25/01/2019 20:42

I keep checking the news, hoping for a miracle

FallAmongstTheStars · 25/01/2019 20:49

Poor baby Sad hoping for a miracle.

HairyToity · 25/01/2019 20:54

Oh please keep us updated. Praying for a miracle.

ButtonMoonLoon · 25/01/2019 20:56

They are now saying they should conclude the rescue in the next few hours. I’m checking rather obsessively so will update here

Stickmanslittleleaf · 25/01/2019 20:58

I find it really heartwarming that there are rescuers willing to go into what the information given makes me believe is a very dangerous situation in the hope of rescuing that little boy. That there are people who will step up and risk their own lives even though there is little hope really. Like the divers who went in for the football team in the cave. And whoever is paying for this massive rescue operation (their equivalent of the LA? The government?) didn't just go 'nah, it's dangerous and costing us a lot, give up now' after such a long time has elapsed. It restores my faith in humanity when so many people are doing so many bad things. I hope he is found, even if it is just to bring him home to his family for the last time and I hope all involved remain safe.

Mooey89 · 25/01/2019 21:00

Following, what an awful tragedy

Knittedfrog · 25/01/2019 21:02

Thank you for the continued updates. I'm checking this thread constantly.

MapMyMum · 25/01/2019 21:04

Thank you for posting updates, I kept trying to find out how the search was going but couldnt find any up to date articles. Ive no spanish so please do keep updating. My thoughts and prayers are with the parents and the little boy

Tidythatmess · 25/01/2019 21:06

I've been following all week, can't believe it hasn't been in the news here. Horrendous situation. The miners must be absolutely exhausted but just keep going.

Burlea · 25/01/2019 21:09

Such a terrible ordeal for all concerned. Pity the parents.

Alwaysaware · 25/01/2019 21:11

Oh gosh this is awful! Why hasn’t it been on the main news?

UnicornSlaughters · 25/01/2019 21:11

Poor little soul. Thank you for the updates, I've been looking too.

Coppermine · 25/01/2019 21:14

I've been following all week too, I'm shocked there hasn't been more coverage and when I've been on Twitter people have said the same in other countries (US, Holland, France, Australia...). I've mentioned it to friends and family and none of them had heard about it. I think I saw one headline in the first day or two and then a few days later realised I'd not heard anything else so had to go searching. Then been following it ever since, kept hoping it would be just one more day and a happy ending but it's been one delay after another.

I know we can't do anything but it's like the media just don't care, or think the public won't care.

Starlight456 · 25/01/2019 21:14

Thank you for the updates

hewhinessoshewines · 25/01/2019 21:20

This is really so sad

Perfectly1mperfect · 25/01/2019 21:26

I've been checking a few times each day hoping for good news. It's been so long. Poor little boy. Praying for a good outcome.
