This is awful, I can’t believe it hasn’t been more mainstream news? I fear the worst after so long but I hope they reach him.. IOS anyone else following this?

wrenika
I know what you mean, but imagine just leaving him down there Shock

ByeGermsByeWorries · 23/01/2019 10:24

Doesn't seem to be any update as yet. I can't stop thinking about how horrible this incident is. Sad

ButtonMoonLoon · 23/01/2019 10:35

I keep checking too, but there doesn’t seem to be any sort of update.
His only hope of still being alive is if he’s had access to water, which, tragically, seems unlikely :(

ByeGermsByeWorries · 23/01/2019 10:44

I agree it is very unlikely at this point sadly, hope is fading with every passing hour but I hope that at least the closure for all involved comes soon, whatever the outcome may be.

ButtonMoonLoon · 23/01/2019 11:10

Small update on the engineering process but it still implies they are 24 hours away from getting to him.

Those poor parents. To have already lost a child and now this. Just incomprehensible.
Makes me feel so angry that someone has made that bolehole and left it open like that. Why is it not filled in or capped off? We joke about health and safety being ott in this country but better that than then woefully lacking.

purpleme12 · 23/01/2019 11:50

I know it's just unbelievable that it was left open

GiantKitten · 23/01/2019 11:56

The nan who drilled it says he put a rock over it. (“That same day” was Tuesday last week.)

No evidence either way now, of course; but they are supposed to have a proper manhole cover fitted Hmm

Makes me feel so angry that someone has made that bolehole and left it open like that.

The early press reports in Spanish said that it was the dads cousin who had been digging for water and had covered the hole with wood. The dad had been making food and saw the little boy run off and the wood gave way.

The parents were removed from the scene a few days ago as they were (understandably!) hysterical and there's been less updates since, presumably because there is less people with the authority to update the press.

I am keeping everything crossed they find a way to him soon, poor kid. It feels like so much time has passed.

sadkoala · 23/01/2019 13:37

I've been lying awake at night thinking about the poor little soul 😢
I hope they get there soon even if it's just for closure.
I know there have been freak survivals in the past but I think it's just been very long and the amount of things that could have gone wrong is just too high.

worridmum · 23/01/2019 13:57

sadly its coming to the point were its unlikely to be a happy ending ya adult can only survive 4-7 days without water depending on weight of the person a human can got nearly a month without food 27 days or so (no idea about Children as young how they cope with famine/ dehyrdation)

I hope they find him alive.

ByeGermsByeWorries · 23/01/2019 14:11

It's been 10 days now and who actually knows what's down that hole Sad

vuripadexo · 23/01/2019 16:15

If they discover the body, will they be able to know what happened to the child and if there was foul play before the boy "fell down the hole"?

Coppermine · 23/01/2019 16:44

Just found this thread. I've been following this news and posting on another (quieter) thread in the 'in the news' section.

Latest report this afternoon is that the miners still haven't started digging the horizontal tunnel. I'm sure they are working as fast as they can but I also struggle to understand what can be taking so long. What have they been doing all day? (Not a criticism, I'm not there, just bewildered).

Jessica McClure wasn't as deep and the hole was in the back garden so she was much easier to access. But still, 3 days in 1997 vs 10+ in 2019, i can't understand it. Maybe the safety issues now delay things further.

If anyone is interested then the Jessica McClure film is on amazon prime. I watched it this week but even though I knew she was rescued alive, it was still a hard watch knowing about this little boy and also having an 18mth old myself.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 23/01/2019 19:09

My understanding of the tunnel situation is that the land is very unsteady and there are no recent geological studies to refer to. They are having to be very careful of gas bubbles and the like, and the safety of the people they send out has to be paramount, especially when so much time has passed without a trace.

My heart goes out to everyone. It's such a sad situation.

I don't think that link has worked at all. 🙄

Soubriquet · 24/01/2019 08:01

I had hope to begin with. I really don’t now

If he did by some miracle survive the drop, I don’t think he would have survived being down there for as long as he has Sad

I'm using this link in google chrome (it automatically translates). The reporter is providing updates very regularly.

Following. What a tragic situation.

ByeGermsByeWorries · 24/01/2019 14:04

The miners are descending for the last phase

They are now 85cms from where they believe him to be.
I can’t begin to imagine how this feels to his family :(

ByeGermsByeWorries · 25/01/2019 19:59

65cm now. They found quartz and the last micro explosion needs to be done with precision by the civil guard due to the proximity to where Julen is. 🙏🏽

honorariam · 25/01/2019 20:13

Where are you getting your updates from?
