How did you celebrate your 40th?

Didn’t really celebrate my 39th as we were about to get married. Always said I would go to NYC for my 40th, but for various reasons this isn’t happening. But now I’m stuck for ideas, as everything seems like a waste of money as it’s nit NYC!
How did you celebrate yours/plan to celebrate? Inspire me please! (Or what would you do differently?!)

Rather than spend money on something else that is second best, why not save up and do NYC as a belated birthday treat?

Was going to be Athens in the spring. We went in honeymoon and I’d love to go back when it’s green. Instead we had our lovely 4 month old DD to think about so we had a couple of nights in a favourite child friendly hotel close to home.

Mine fell on a Sunday so on the Saturday I went for a meal with DH, DD, my family, his, and my very best friend and her DH.

The actual day was spent with DH running around after me, having a lovely bubble bath that he ran for me along with a large gin and tonic Grin. He cooked my favourite tea and we watched my choice on the tv all day. Had the best weekend.

Went to Seville and ate lots of fabulous food and drank lots of lovely wine. Those were the days!

I had 5 small parties and 1 big one

Small parties included night at the local indian, night at the local chinese and a cocktail evening

Big party was in a local clubhouse

I had a nice time

Dh and i are sharing a party this year and i will probably do something similar (excluding the big party) for around my actual birthday

Hope you have a lovely time whatever you decide

My family all came to stay the weekend before my birthday and then on the day itself DD and i had a McDonald’s breakfast and went to Hobbycraft and an art gallery (DS started secondary school and DDs school went back the next day). Then in the evening we all went to Yo Sushi. Was good Smile

Massive party with all our family & friends, trip to Dubai with my close girlfriends & family trip to Boston & NYC - it was an amazing birthday & year!!

Mine is this year and I can't decide. I think my parents might arrange NY for me secretly because my mum & I were meant to go years ago and never did.
Am thinking Edinburgh fringe and then on the actual day something with the DC. Maybe the Shard as that's on my bucket list.

Two nights in a naice hotel in the lakes. Boat trip. Walking. Meals out.

I was supoosed to be going to Australia that year but DH is a dick at times and likes to ruin my life.

Hopefully NYC! Was supposed to be doing it for my 30th but it didn’t come off for various reasons. Always wanted to go and it’s my 40th this year and I have dropped many many unsubtle hints!

Dinner party for 14 family and close friends in a private room at a restaurant, where I knew the owners. Great food, great evening. I think the last of us left at about 02:00.
Came in under budget, too ;-)

I'm 40 next spring, going to Iceland with DH and then a family party with DC's/friends etc
