Most random find in a new house?

So we picked up our keys for our new house today. The sellers have been so nice. The house is super clean and they've left thoughtful things like a hedge clipper and lawnmower. All good.

However... on the back of one of the bedroom doors there is a sheep's skull!!!! 😱

Utterly random! So what's the most random thing your found when you moved in to a new house?

Two huge ceramic tigers with glowing green eyes and big white teeth! They were on a shelf in the loft. I took them to a charity shop and felt guilty for off loading them.

QOD · 19/01/2019 09:14

A gun in previous house and then when we moved, we cleared the attic and found a load of their old shit including a real tiger skin complete with bullet hole ☹️
This house ? Filth dirt dog stink and a noose in the outhouse

JeezOhGeeWhizz · 19/01/2019 09:17

Placemarking.

MrsJayy · 19/01/2019 09:23

My Dd found an assortment of weapons in her flat knives, razor blades and a wooden bat thing with nails in it. Sad thing was they were hidden in a cupboard of what looked like a childs bedroom!

Cedilla · 19/01/2019 09:27

Nothing actually left behind but the fabric of the house yielded a few surprises as we renovated (very, very old house which had only been 'modernised' in the 70's then left pretty much untouched since).

So it was a bit of a shock to find that the free-standing shower cubicle we removed from the grim, mould-tastic bathroom was bedded into concrete that had just been poured straight onto the planks of the wooden floor.

And what we thought was a large built-in cupboard and planned to turn into bookcases turned out to incorporate a Victorian half-glazed door which had been left in situ and simply painted over to match the wall. We'd been merrily slamming books into it for a while before we realised it wasn't solid plaster but glass, and could easily have smashed and caused serious injury (the other side of the door is in the kitchen and had had a whole new wall built in front of it..... Confused)

The imprint of where a hot If had obviously been held against the wallpaper for some reason - but it was on the ceiling right above the bed head ! Grin

LadyPenelope68 · 19/01/2019 09:37

Hot iron that should say!

Auntpetunia2015 · 19/01/2019 09:37

I’m our loft ...1970s German porn mags and a lovely Santa statue/model thing and a wedding album from the 50s along with birthday card for 18 and 21st birthday

Needless to say porn got lashed. I’ve still got Santa. And the wedding album and cards were returned via our next door neighbour who was still in touch with those people.

FamilyOfAliens · 19/01/2019 09:40

A massive jar of homemade lime pickle.

I was pondering how to dispose of it for several days when there was a knock at the door and the previous owner had come to collect it. She was so relieved I hadn’t thrown it away!

HRHlikeahornyponywould · 19/01/2019 09:40

My friend just moved into a new house and found a caravan in the garden.

It had been wedged in so lord knows how it got in there and they didn’t take it with them, obviously

HRHlikeahornyponywould · 19/01/2019 09:44

This is the caravan

Not really strange but the previous owners of my house renovated then moved out and let the house, not returning again.

I have a full three room cellar of DIY equipment; drills, heat guns, painting equipment, no more nails and superglue, spare floor boards, spare paint... so much stuff that I may never have to visit a shop again!

keepingbees · 19/01/2019 09:56

We found a handbag in the loft, just inside the loft hatch like it had been quickly put up there. What was strange though was that it had possessions like keys, make up, used tickets, tissues etc as though it had just been used then thrown up there for some reason. There was no I.d though and the house was an ex rental so no idea who it had belonged to.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 19/01/2019 10:14

DDog came with a previous house - albeit passed down a chain of house sharers until I moved out and took him with me.

I think there may be some unspoken rule which forbids coat hangers from being removed and requires that at least a small quantity of crockery be left behind.

foxyfemke · 19/01/2019 10:18

When I bought my first flat, there was a numeric lock on the bedroom door! It's 15 years later and I still wonder about this one every now and then...

Yulebealrite · 19/01/2019 10:28

Keepingbees that sounds like it had been stolen and shoved up there when the police arrived.

Bringbackthestripes · 19/01/2019 11:23

Utter filth. Every single room was dirty but the kitchen was unbelievably greasy, dirty and the junk drawer hadn’t been emptied. The oven was disgusting and, thankfully, didn’t work so it saved me hours of cleaning. We also found damp in the back of the built in wardrobe where the gutter had been leaking and the shed was full of old broken toys.

In our last house there was a sideboard in the attic, it must have been built from a flat pack up there because we had to demolish it to get it out through the loft hatch.

captainpantbeard · 19/01/2019 11:54

Bloody hell, some of these put my chip pan full of dirty chip fat to shame!

Also when I’d been living there for 8 years DH broke the front room radiator and there were about 10 pairs of rock hard pants - not ours, they’d been there for years 😳

Dothehappydance · 19/01/2019 12:01

We also found a tea towel behind a radiator. Washed it and put it with our mopping up cloths and thought little of it. Until we found a pool of water on the window sill and realised it must have been there to catch the incoming rain from where the window leaks.

honestlynotagain · 19/01/2019 12:30

It's really baffling that some previous house owners are unable to dispose of their used sanitary towels and tampons correctly Envy not envy!

Ours left us fleas, a gcse art folder in the loft and a floppy disc which had 'gemma's sexy things' written on it.

RagingWhoreBag · 19/01/2019 12:38

That the electrics had been wired to bypass the meter ConfusedBlush. Had the place rewired and discovered this gem, then our utility bill doubled Grin

Also that the outdoor lights were actually ice cream tubs screwed on over a bulb Grin

Still have happy memories of that place though! Smile

morningconstitutional2017 · 19/01/2019 14:19

In the rather cute but ramshackle home-made greenhouse (made out of recycled window-frames) we found an old biscuit tin which contained loads of old medicine bottles full of pills. I do mean loads.

We couldn't make out whether they were for human consumption or were some sort of tonic for the lovely garden. We had to take them to a local chemist for disposal.

JorahsMistress · 19/01/2019 14:30

Nothing exciting here, just a bin in the garden full of rubble & hundreds of fag butts, and when after having a bath the first night and the water wasn't draining properly, barely at all in fact, dh had a poke around down the plug hole and found yet more fag butts 🤢

We have been here 4 years but have never gone in the loft so who knows what i could find up there 😂

slkk · 19/01/2019 14:35

Old projector slides with pornographic images

steppemum · 19/01/2019 14:49

Here, we found a Christmas tree in the loft, which is boring really!

But when I sold my flat that we had let, we foudn a brilliant Dutch shuffle board game in the garage. Dh is Dutch and was really pleased to get it. Also a fab huge gardne umbrella.

My parents moved into a house where the owner was still there, and left behind skip full sof rubbish inckuding several broken vintage car wrecks in the garden. He was very slow to collect, but after legal advice, we could not dispose of them, it took him months to get them all.

Previous flat I kept seeing a young cat in the garden. I was chatting over the fence one day and was told - Oh yes, the house up the road got him as a kitten, but he ran off, the previous owners in your flat were feeding him. Poor little mite, he was only about 6 months old, and I had been there for a month ish. He seemd very scared, I opened the back door, and sat about 10 foot into the house with a bowl of cat food right in front of me and waited.
Very nervously he came in, all skittery and wild. He started eating. I stroked him and he melted, moved in at that moment, literally only went out for a wee for about a week, just to be sure he was allowed to stay. Turned out he was a super friendly lap cat, just scared after a few weeks living in the garden.
