Roundabout situation - which lane do you use?

Say you're approaching a roundabout that has 3 exits as follows:
Exit 1: At 12 o clock/straight ahead
Exit 2: At 3 o clock/ left
Exit 2: At 6 o clock/going back where you came from.

You need to use exit 2, and there are 2 lanes going round the roundabout. Do you:
A. use the right hand lane all the way round to the exit or
B. Use the left hand lane, moving into the right hand lane once you've passed the first exit?

I know which I use, and what I was taught when learning to drive, but I'm lead to believe there are 2 camps of people on this with differing views. Which lane would you use and why please?

TIA Grin

3 o'clock is right not left tho?!

PuppyMonkey · 15/01/2019 19:36

Isn’t three o’clock right? Confused

gamerchick · 15/01/2019 19:37

Don't you mean 2 exits? Lane 1 for first exit and lane 2 for second exit and if you must lane 2 to go all the way around.

(I just had to go and find a clock btw Grin)

gamerchick · 15/01/2019 19:38

Yeah your post makes no sense. Soz Grin where does left at 3 o'clock come in?

GunpowderGelatine · 15/01/2019 19:38

Agh I'm an idiot, in mY OP on option B I mean stat in the right and move to the left lane 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm a bit stumped here. Should your OP read:

Exit 1: At 12 o clock/straight ahead
Exit 2: At 3 o clock/ right
Exit 3: At 6 o clock/going back where you came from.

That's the only way I can make sense of it.

Anyway, I don't understand why you would ever need to move from the left lane into the right lane on any roundabout (assuming you are in a country where you drive on the left?). You would be moving towards the centre of the roundabout and away from the exits. If you started in the right hand lane of any roundabout, you would eventually need to move into the left lane in order to exit.

SayNoToCarrots · 15/01/2019 19:40

I'd do B, because if I do A and there is someone in the inside land coming from the exit before mine, and heading off at exit 1, I'd be in the way.

GunpowderGelatine · 15/01/2019 19:40

I've reported my post to amend it. Sorry for the confusion Blush

I’m no wiser after the update.

Is the answer “about half past four?” Grin

CoastalLife · 15/01/2019 19:41

Cross posted. I would start in the RH lane and move to LH lane after passing the first exit.

BeautifulPossibilities · 15/01/2019 19:42

Maybe no driving from you til you know left from right.

GunpowderGelatine · 15/01/2019 19:42

I think the answer is "OP should probably stop driving when she can't tell her left from her right"

AMENDED POST:

Exit 1: At 12 o clock/straight ahead
Exit 2: At 3 o clock/ right
Exit 2: At 6 o clock/going back where you came from.

You need to use exit 2, and there are 2 lanes going round the roundabout. Do you:
A. use the left hand lane all the way round to the exit or
B. Use the right hand lane, moving into the left hand lane once you've passed the first exit?

B.

GunpowderGelatine · 15/01/2019 19:43

I should have lied and said I live in Spain. Dammit

OP posts:
SayNoToCarrots · 15/01/2019 19:43

There are still two exit 2s 😂

LIZS · 15/01/2019 19:44

Inside lane until pass first exit.

ItsaPeppaPink · 15/01/2019 19:45

Definitely B

ladybee28 · 15/01/2019 19:46

Seventy-twelve?

I love this thread - it sounds like the inside of my head Grin

EggysMom · 15/01/2019 19:46

B for me

SpoonBlender · 15/01/2019 19:46

B, as per Highway Code section 186.

When taking an exit to the right or going full circle, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise
signal right and approach in the right-hand lane
keep to the right on the roundabout until you need to change lanes to exit the roundabout
signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.

You would never use the outside lane to go three-quarters of the way around a roundabout, too much risk of someone on the inside lane going through you.

PuppyMonkey · 15/01/2019 19:47

Is it the first exit 2, or the second one? Grin

OP have you considered a DIAGRAM?Shock

InMyBloodstainedSundaysBest · 15/01/2019 19:48

B.. unless there are road signs/markings which say both lanes go round the roundabout

gamerchick · 15/01/2019 19:49

There are idiots who like to turn right at a roundabout using the left lane and no indicators.

Its like a dare.

BeautifulPossibilities · 15/01/2019 19:55

It's B!
