I'll start:

Vienetta's especially mint
Viscount biscuits
Nesquik milkshake

I had a childhood apparently obsessed by foods my parents declared not for daily consumption!

Pineapple upside down cakes or the one that was like it with tinned peaches

Crumble with custard

Pain au chocolat

Fresh herbs

Dolmio sauce

I'll see your Sara Lee and raise you

I never actually got to try them but they had posh adverts!

I actually thought people who had sliced bread were posh as DM would insist on going to the bakers for loaf we had to cut ourselves.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 12/01/2019 22:30

Oh and I decided to treat myself to proper shampoo when I left home. I bought Timotei.

BestIsWest · 12/01/2019 22:32

I was at least 18 before I knew broccoli existed.

BestIsWest · 12/01/2019 22:33

I bought so many Eternal Beau coffee pots and casseroles as Wedding gifts in the 1980s

motortroll · 12/01/2019 22:38

Mac Donald's!

SuziQ10 · 12/01/2019 22:40

I was envious of anyone with a 7seater car. Though they were super posh and super cool, especially the back seats.

School uniforms! I went to a school that did not have a uniform. I thought the idea of a school uniform was intriguing and looked very posh. It was actually just a run down comp.

forthelifeofpomme · 12/01/2019 22:43

Tins of chunky chicken from M&S. Only my Dad was allowed it as it was too expensive for the rest of us Confused

HollySwift · 12/01/2019 22:44

A pizza cutter. I can vividly remember going for tea at my best friends house, and they ordered dominoes (also v.v.v. posh to 11yo me) and then ran a pizza cutter down it. I was in awe and begged DM to buy one. She never did.

It was the very first kitchen utensil I bought when I moved out, still have the same one and it’s one of my favourite things Grin

MarthaHanson · 12/01/2019 22:56

As a child:
Soda stream
The Wimpy
M&S cafe
Milky coffee
Chain hotels

In my late teens:
Dowe Egbert instant coffee.
Jack Daniels

Carpets which went all the way to the edge of the room.
Duvets instead of sheets and blankets.
Fresh orange juice.
Viennette

sweetkitty · 12/01/2019 23:25

Lilt
Vienetta

waywardfruit · 12/01/2019 23:27

The 1970's Vauxhall Viva - a thing of beauty Grin abrubtly replaced in my affections by the Ford Capri.

Vol-au-vents, especially when filled with mushrooms a la Campbells Condensed Grin

Elizabeth Shaw Mint Crisp chocolates

Harveys Bristol Cream sherry. Dad would buy one bottle a year, and mum would make it last for months and months.

We had a special two-pronged pickle fork that was only ever liberated from the cutlery drawer at Christmas time.

Espadrilles - no idea why!

Mum2OneTeen · 12/01/2019 23:32

Derwent coloured pencils (oh, how I wished for a set of those)

RoseMartha · 12/01/2019 23:38

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 12/01/2019 23:39

Mum2OneTeen · 12/01/2019 23:42

Oh yes, and colour tv (showing my age here)

bringincrazyback · 12/01/2019 23:47

Wine! When I was a kid (70s) the only time the adults had wine was with Christmas dinner, and it was always some crap like Liebfraumilch even then. Apparently wine was much more expensive then so it was treated like some kind of huge treat.

Likewise eating in restaurants, it happened so rarely it was always a big treat. Think society's gone too far the other way now tbh, and the 'special-occasion-ness' has all but disappeared from eating out, which is a pity.

Drunkandstupidagain · 12/01/2019 23:50

We used to get a Sunday roast in a pub every Sunday but we were only allowed to order orange cordial - when we went out for our birthday dinner we gotta fizzy drinks (I have 3 siblings so can understand now) . Every time I went out with my best mate and her family we got to order whatever we wanted to drink and as many - I thought they were so lucky and rich

WhirlieGigg · 13/01/2019 00:06

A roasted joint of meat on a Sunday. We could never afford a joint of meat but my Gran had one every week and I thought she must be rich. I used to purposely visit her on a Sunday morning because she’d give me a slice of meat in a sandwich. My weekly sandwich was the only time I had actual sliced meat until I was in my 20s.

IroningMan · 13/01/2019 00:14

Vienetta
Sara Lee gateaux
Scholer
Individual packets of cereal

All were special treats for birthdays/holidays

Julianaa · 13/01/2019 00:42

Prawns

DustyMaiden · 13/01/2019 00:47

Berni inns were posh, I got engaged there on my 17th Birthday.

ConfessionalProfessional · 13/01/2019 00:49

Mixer drinks in mini cans on a drinks tray.
