I'll start:

Vienetta's especially mint
Viscount biscuits
Nesquik milkshake

I had a childhood apparently obsessed by foods my parents declared not for daily consumption!

Berni Inns

SoSobored · 12/01/2019 11:26

Primula (especially if it was out of the tub)

CountFosco · 12/01/2019 11:26

We had self catering holiday in a chalet in Scotland visiting museums and historical sites. I desperately wanted to go on a package holiday to Costa del Sol and have a holiday romance with a Spanish boy, it seemed so exotic and glamorous, I blame Jackie magazine.

Frouby · 12/01/2019 11:26

Salmon. We had tinned salmon at Christmas, mixed with vinegar and cucumber.

I didn't have fresh salmon until I was much older.

MirandaWest · 12/01/2019 11:28

I still find vienetta quite exciting Grin Might more be because it tends to happen when we have family to visit which is a nice thing Smile

Pinkgin50 · 12/01/2019 11:29

Ski yogurts
Fizzy drinks (only at christmas)
Pizza

Tigger001 · 12/01/2019 11:30

Ferraro Roche they were only treats at Christmas lol

PinkHeart5914 · 12/01/2019 11:30

Vienetta's especially mint Yes to this, my parents still think this should be saved for special times and only serve it at birthday dinners!

madmum5811 · 12/01/2019 11:32

Fizzy Corona an occasional treat. After Eight Mints.

redexpat · 12/01/2019 11:32

Corn on the cob. Served in crystal dishes with special forks and melted butter. Always as a starter.

Huntlybyelection · 12/01/2019 11:32

M&S prawn sandwiches. Height of sophistication in the late 1980s.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 12/01/2019 11:34

My friend used to have a jug with premade squash in it for them to help themselves rather than making it each time in a glass. I used to think that was really posh.

MotherOfMinions · 12/01/2019 11:36

Fresh fruit juice
Prawn cocktail
Black Forest gateau
Drinking glasses that all matched

slashlover · 12/01/2019 11:36

Appletiser. Only ever had it at Christmas or on holiday.

KirstieandPhil · 12/01/2019 11:37

Prawn ring
Ferrero rocher

longwayoff · 12/01/2019 11:40

I don't understand the love for vianetta or ferrero rocher. Butterscotch Angel Delight though, definitely yes.

MorningsEleven · 12/01/2019 11:50

My Aunt did too - kia ora in a jug. I loved going to her house 🍹

MissWilmottsGhost · 12/01/2019 11:55

Are we only talking foods?

If not, then pebbledash. I thought it was awesome when I was little and couldn't understand why mum wouldn't get our house done.

The only thing better than pebbledash was those fake stuck on bricks.

storminabuttercup · 12/01/2019 12:02

I once had a breaded chicken escalope at a friends house and thought that was massively posh.

amusedbush · 12/01/2019 12:06

At a friend’s house I was given an actual branded Coke - in a can! Full sugar!

My mum gave us weak squash or occasionally Aldi branded diet fizzy drinks from a 2L bottle. I was blown away that someone would have something so extravagant in their home Grin

VioletCharlotte · 12/01/2019 12:07

Prawn cocktail
Steak
Wine
Profiteroles
Black Forest gateaux
M&S sandwiches

Moussemoose · 12/01/2019 12:08

Another one for Berni Inns. We went there a treat once a year.

hmmwhatatodo · 12/01/2019 12:12

Fresh orange juice (even though it probably wasnt very fresh, most likely concentrated). Sarah lee cake was definitely fancy and only for birthdays! Biscuits wrapped in foil, anything to do with prawns - only the tiny pink ones though, i had no idea bigger varieties existed. I actually came across very little variety in food up until around my early to mid 20s. I dont think i tasted an avocado until i was around 23. I had seen them in a market when i was very late teens and thought they looked like they would taste good but i didnt but one as i had no idea what you would actually do with it.

hmmwhatatodo · 12/01/2019 12:14

Oh, and leded windows, the criss cross type that looked very old fashioned and posh to me - now i just think it looks a pain to clean.

Knittedfairies · 12/01/2019 12:14

We never had broccoli as children; I think my mum saw it as cauliflower with attitude.
